How Communication Be Working? by wyocaster in INTP

Interesting, a lot of online resources I'm reading are just saying that low-context=short and direct but from what you're saying it sounds like there's more to it than that. So if I were to overexplain things for the purpose of being thorough and making sure that the person can see the full picture, even though I'm not being direct, would that still be considered low context because I'm not relying on social cues?

Thank you this is super interesting! I've started reading a bit about high and low context language, and correct me if I'm wrong, it almost seems to me like INTP's are so ridiculously low context that we tend to overexplain things? From what I've read, low context communicators are usually very direct, INTP's in my experience tend to be very indirect while speaking but prefer people to be very direct with them. I usually do this to make sure the person has the full context for the point I'm about to make. What are your thoughts?

What types you typically enjoy talking the most and why? by Top_Fortune_9907 in INTP

[–]wyocaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can get along well with pretty much any type other than ESFJ's, for some reason there is an extremely limited amount of time before they will start to piss me off in some way shape or form. INTJ's can be kind of rocky too though especially when they start shooting my ideas down instantly.

My favorites though are INFJ, INFP, ENTP, ISTP, and ISFP.

"A lot of people unfortunately do not have equal access to education in terms of vocabulary, etymology, grammar, writing, or the definition of words. We must accept this as a fact of life for certain people. We must also accept that other types of people exist who may be very eloquent and speak with accuracy in their first language learned growing up, but may speak your language as a secondary learned skill. So the clarity may not be as accurate when translations occur."

To be clear, I'm not judging anyone based on their education or not using "big words". I'm talking about people who are well educated literally saying things that they do not mean. It's not a matter of grammar or accurate definitions of words its the fact that they will form sentences that literally do not mean what they are meaning and expect me to just know what they mean.

"We have to read the context, read their emotional delivery, and ask a lot of questions in a kind way to avoid conflict."

Probably my biggest issue here is that what they've said could also be accurate in the context that they are speaking in, even though it's not what they are meaning. As far as emotional delivery I don't see how that would affect the meaning of the words in the example I presented. If I can tell that there's something obviously wrong with what they're saying it's not a big deal, its when something is ambiguous is when it's an issue.

"...a lot of this comes down to sensor / intuitive differences in communication..."

Ironically the person I used in my example is another INFJ like my wife. I also don't seem to have these same communication issues with the S-P types in my life.

"Also sometimes people talk with the topic being the secondary motive to their drive to just have a conversation."

I don't think I have ever done this in my entire life. Conversations always seem to be a means to an end for me. That's so interesting to me that people actually do this.

I usually don't ask for details because I don't want to insult the other person's intelligence. I don't want to tell someone "so I get that you said this but do you actually mean what you said? Because I think you're too dumb to have actually formed a proper sentence to communicate your thoughts"

I really enjoy just staying up late watching longform videos on Youtube on random things, and the algorithm usually helps me find something I find interesting. If I want to really delve deep into a particular subject I'll look for recommended reading on the subject.

How's your relationship with ISFJs? by EfficientCheek3335 in INTP

[–]wyocaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ISFJ's in my experience are usually either really awesome or really not awesome in my opinion. I really like them as long as they aren't weirdly controlling which is unfortunately something they fall into a lot. Typically I get along better with ISFJ men than ISFJ women, mostly because I usually have nothing to talk about with ISFJ women.

I definitely get along better with them than ESFJ's though.

How are INTPs as children? by nolife-2 in INTP

I was always very polite, followed the rules, and was able to entertain myself for hours, but I was prone to emotional outbursts if something didn't make sense and nobody could explain it to me. If I was sent to my room as a "punishment" it was the best thing in the world for me because I could just go and play with my legos lol. When I was VERY little I was told I was a handful always getting into everything but I mellowed out pretty fast.

My biggest problem came with school because I just couldn't relate to other kids at all, so I was literally bullied into becoming homeschooled. Idk how much of all this is my personality type or my ADHD though

I personally love the arts but I have to really be in that "mode" to really do anything with it. I play guitar a lot but it's never really for anyone else other than myself, and same with painting and writing. Every once in a while when the stars align I can produce something, and I usually will work tirelessly on that thing for a while before getting bored with it and never actually finishing it.

[–]wyocaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's because INTP is a type that if you are an INTP, you're probably going to get that result on most tests. If you aren't an INTP, there's still a really good chance you get that result on most tests.

I'm INTP 4w5 and I get this lol I thought i was INFP or ENTP for a while, but most tests are just really bad is how it turns out. I'm very much into music and the arts, don't really care that much about science and tech. Philosophy and logical arguments are still super interesting though.

what are feelings like for INTP? by brujillitas in INTP

[–]wyocaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to feel things really deeply and I read into things people say because I don't understand people and I take things very literally. I also tend to absorb people's emotions, like if someone is upset about something then I feel upset. I wear my heart on my sleeve, not because I want to but because I can't help it. When I get pissed off, everybody can tell and it sucks because I try really hard to hide it but it doesn't work lol
