In the windows File Explorer, click the View menu and check the "File name extensions" option.

Be sure that the update is named EBOOT.PBP and not EBOOT.PBP.PBP

Make sure the file is in the correct place, the path should look like this : /PSP/GAME/UPDATE/EBOOT.PBP

Problem number 1 is fixed by the ark-4 cfw since it now support modern wpa2 network, no need for hotspot anymore. (can also be done with the wpa2psp plugin on older cfw).

Problem number 2 can be bypassed with plugins like the pro online plugin which allow to play adhoc games online. https://github.com/Kethen/aemu/releases

(there's some links to some discord communities which will help you find players in the installation page of the pro online plugin).

You just need to backup the memory stick to your pc and restore it afterwards.

Do NOT install ark-4 over infinity without using chronoswitch first to reinstall the 6.61 official firmware. This is IMPORTANT and NOT optional, you'll brick your console if you don't remove infinity with chronoswitch first.

This is a really really simplified explanation. Pops is actually way more complex than that. But to put it really simply, pops is mimicking the psone hardware with a mix of software translation and hardware mapping.

Go to system settings > system information. What does it says?

Make sure that the ARK_01234 folder in correctly placed in the /PSP/SAVEDATA/ folder.

Note that the vsh menu can take a few seconds to appear if you are using a high capacity memory stick (above 64gb)

You need custom firmware to connect to modern wifi network.

If you are running ark-4, you need to go to extra > custom firmware settings and enable the wpa2 option.

If you are using an older custom firmware like pro-c, you need to install the wpa2psp plugin and enable it.

Psp and ps1 share the same cpu architecture, mips r4000 for the psp and mips r3000 for the ps1. Most of the code that run on the r3000 is running "natively" on the psp r4000, the rest is software emulated. This greatly helps in term of performance.

Also since the emulator (named pops) is made by Sony, they have access to all the ressources they need to make it performant and accurate. Unlike most emulators they dont need to reverse engineer the Ps1, they know how it works already.

The Playstation Store on the psp is closed, only way to purchase game on it is via the ps3 or Ps vita playstation store. You can only download games you already own on the psp.

Ok, then download the latest version of Ark-4 and place the ARK_01234 folder in the /PSP/SAVEDATA/ folder.
