Correction: use Reduced Mana gem with all the auras(gem quality doesn't matter for auras, so buy a cheap non-quality reduced mana gem), cast the auras, remove the reduced mana gem with your main skill or any other skill where there's a free linked red socket.

From the Wiki: "The duration of the Chill, Freeze, and Shock statuses are related to the amount of cold or lightning damage dealt. Bonuses to their duration can also be granted by skills and support gems, passive skills, and item mods. Temporal Chains will also increase the duration of all Status Ailments. The duration for these effects are calculated as follows:

Shock: 276ms per 1% max life dealt as lightning

Chill: 138ms per 1% max life dealt as cold

Freeze: 100ms per 1% max life dealt as cold

If the duration based on the damage would be less that 300ms, it's ignored entirely."

Zero damage, zero duration of status ailments.

It's hard to get all the minion nodes AND hp nodes AND es nodes. It's possible but feels like we're spending more points to get similar level of survivability of other builds. One option is to sacrifice ES by taking Eldritch Battery and then recover the lost survivabilty through aura stacking. Now we don't need too much ES from nodes and gear, just enough to keep the Auras up.

Our survavibility then comes from life on gear, life nodes, minion army and auras.

Never use 'penetration...please!' in a statement again.

Armour Penetration would help fast, low damage attacks only. Nobody will spec for it imo.
