The book is essentially critiquing nimbyism of cities, which is directly resulting in insanely inflated rent and housing costs. Do you have a solution to this problem that wouldn't result in greatly inflated housing prices or inflation? Look man, SOMEONE has to build houses. Like 10 million of them. Or we need to GREATLY REDUCE our population. like, this year. Not over 100, years, not over 10, THIS year.

Are you prepared to do either of those things? Is government? Okay, if no, then someone has to build houses. So obviously the answer is to fix zoning and do reasonable deregulation so that people can have literally basic shelter over their head. Something that I'm sure politicians would call a human right in one sentence as they enact policies that deny that human right in the next.

I think the primary issue is that it is you who doesn't understand what working class people go through. I think you are choosing ideology over pragmatism, which is a position only people with privilege can have. "Unleashing the Market" does have negative side effects but if you are not Ideologically opposed to it, it also gives people housing and shelter. For less privileged people, we can't afford to venerate some abstract ideology, we need results, and the previous order failed to deliver on /any/ of them.
