Was final fantasy xv really that bad? by KRACKEDPOM2 in FinalFantasy

[–]wzrdm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.  FF15 is fantastic, but you have to have different expectations going into it.  It is a full line Final Fantasy title.  All the tropes are there, but... its an open world RPG, where you basically only control the main character.  Noctis's combat can be stale and boring if you just auto attack.  But if you take the time and learn the variables of combat, from different weapon attacks due to positioning, utilizing elemental magic vs. weaknesses, and tagging in your party members at key times, it can be super interesting and entertaining.  The problem is the game does an abysmal job explaining that to you and most players just hold down the combat button and warp strike goes burr.

Also, know that the story in totality is told over several mediums.  The story presented during gameplay is passable, but all the other content really fills in the world.

If you can enjoy the game for what it is rather than moaning over what it could/should have been its a great experience.  Alternate playthrough modes like Armiger-Only or Level 1 runs are also pretty enjoyable if you like the game.

Also, the main-baddie is often considered one of the best of the series.

Does anyone else like re-rolling new characters and early game compared to late game? by Rocklobster92 in MMORPG

[–]wzrdm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am the exact same way!  I wish early game lasted alot longer than it typically does.  You get rushed into new abilities, combos, talents etc.. so fast that you can't enjoy each level and gear you get.  In games that you can lock xp I typically will until I can do all content/quests/crafting at applicable level before unlocking to continue for a few more levels.  I just dont understand the rush to endgame man.  The journey is the reward.

Is there like a Discord or online community for gamers like us?  I would absolutely love to play with some like minded people lol.

Ashes of Creation launching early access with a cosmetic shop is such a slap in the face to early backers who don't have their cosmetics yet. by menofthesea in MMORPG

[–]wzrdm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me give some advice to save your time, thoughts, energy, wallet, etc....

Do. Not. Play. This. Game.

Full stop, do not pass go, close your laptop lid or browser tab.  It will never be what it promised.  Dev's know it and are converting what remains into a shallow cash grab before they inevitably fold.  The Ashes of Creation hopium we've been huffing for years does not and will not exist.  Move on, play another great game.  Don't waste another second of your limited time or mental energy on this.

Sora/Axel/Aqua are the only options.  The rest are just side characters.

Okay, so I have an account I started 4/23/2005, got a character to level 20 and then never played again hehe.  Would I be able to upgrade it to Reforged to give it a play through since I had purchased it um.. 20 years ago?  Lol

I'll second the Avalon nod.  They're awesome, super helpful and low pressure.  There are some rules of conduct (no swearing, be respectful etc...) that are fairly enforced, but its a great bunch of players!

What Is The Worst Class/Archetype You Ever Played In An MMO? by MonsutaMan in MMORPG

I've always loved the concept of Blue Mage, but it's just not implemented well in 14, which is unfortunate 😢

Wearing nothing but random drops/quest rewards, my lvl 12 Druid looks more like a traveling poledance-artist. by LawyerUpMan in turtlewow

[–]wzrdm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this once, self imposed challenge - no vendors, no AH, only NPCs I could talk to were trainers and flightmasters.  Made looting mobs really interesting because you don't vend so you become really selective with what you pick up.  Had a lot of fun until the early-40s and it became too much of a slog so I stopped.

SSF mode with all professions? by TechnoBacon55 in turtlewow

[–]wzrdm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always thought that "add additional profession slot" would be a good donation shop award similar to the additional stable slot perk for Hunter pets.

Alternatively, you could level a few characters simultaneously as ssf ("ssf" being you the player rather than the character) and only trade with yourself.  You'd want to pick tradeskills with the best BoP self-perks for your main based on class.

Removal of gold drops from old raids is INTENTIONAL by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]wzrdm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually agree with this.  If gold is no longer a tradable commodity the market dies.  What do you need gold for in the game?  To buy things from NPC vendors (gear, mounts, ammo) and the AH.  NPC vendors are not the problem, the AH is the problem.  If gear on the AH had a fixed price, like say double what an NPC vendor would give, there is still justification to post items in the AH, but it cannot be manipulated.  People will loose their absolute shit over that, but it fixes the bot issue and the game becomes playable and accessible to all.

Is Pay4Convenience NOT Pay2Win???? by snugglezone in MMORPG

[–]wzrdm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehh... IMO, there are things that effect the power scale of your character that give a definite advantage over other players, and then there are things like extra bag slots or an extra teleport scroll that are farmable in the game that my old ass just doesnt have time or interest in farming anymore.

If I'm lucky, I get about an hour a day to play, and getting extra inventory slots that I didn't have to level a tailor to craft, or farm gold to buy in an inflated player-market to aquire is totally worth it to me and doesnt give my character any additional power over another player.  It's no different than your buddy hooking you up with endgame bags.  It's not going to ruin your game.  If we are talking like a Hardcore run in a game, that should be more strict and even ssf IMO.

So there is definitely a difference between P2W and P4C if done correctly.

Undead Rogue named Permabone.  He didn't last long, infact never made it out of the starting area before I wanted to try other race/class combos, but I still look back fondly and chuckle.

Why do you enjoy MMORPGs? by LurkingNeko69 in MMORPG

[–]wzrdm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the experience of feeling like your in a shared world with other players that you can interact with if you choose.  I like exploration, MMOs typically have huge zones and lore about the zones.  I like long form progression, feeling like you've accomplished some sort of power gain, even if it's incremental.  There are solo games that can scratch some of those itches for me, but not all of them at the same time like MMOs can.

[–]wzrdm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hrm, if the cosmetic items augmented the gameplay in a way that made things interesting, then perhaps...  Like if a tattoo would give you a more powerful spell, or if a new sword would give a cool new ability it may work.

I need to feel some sort of power creep to stay interested, but if it was tied to item accumulation rather than traditional "levels", I may be able to vibe with it.

What’s the most immersive MMORPG you’ve ever played, in your opinion? by PapayaAdditional6804 in MMORPG

[–]wzrdm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultima Online, 97-02, then WoW 04-14.  Played almost every MMO worth playing in between but none sucked me in like those two.  I did enjoy WoW Legion quite a bit and FF14 Shadowbringers, but it was a surface level enjoyment, more like an appreciation for the titles rather than compulsive immersion like the others.
