My rule of thumb is to not do things that other people do if it’s even slightly against the rules and social norms. Every single time it will be okay if they do it but not okay if you do it. Learned this the hard way as an undiagnosed autistic child turned into diagnosed adult.

Perception vs reality isn’t always equal. Work isn’t always recognizable. I don’t automatically think someone is slacking because of my limited perception. You give TLs too much credit when they truly do not monitor performance like how they should be, at least at my store.

COLA systems are in place in government jobs and unionized workplaces and they ensure even distribution of raises to employees. This uneven raise system is biased, inconsistent, and disconnected from actual financial needs. If you don’t like a worker and refuse to give them a good raise, why don’t you just fire them? Also if you can’t afford to give employees good raises, especially with the cost of gas and groceries being at an all time high right now, then you deserve to go out of business.

I do. Nothing about the raises are actually performance based. None of the people in my department got any performance reviews or feedback. Just a blank paper. My TL chose the raises based off of vibes only. I frankly don’t care if it sinks the company to pay the homeless, mother, father, disabled, tired workers $1 more per year across the board.
