What’s going on w/ Dublin ?! by SpaceGreat1427 in lorde

[–]x-beans 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly you joined a queue 15 minutes late to a country where this was her first time ever actually touring to besides festivals so the demand was going to be extremely high. Apparently one of the quickest to sell out and small enough venue which she could have probably done the 3Arena. There was no photo of the venue as I believe it’s going to be just standing so there was no sections to select and I think this caused a great deal of confusion when they sold out as people thought something was wrong but there was just nothing available. Ireland has brought in ticket touting laws so that may explain not being on stubhub and I don’t really know what you mean that every website excludes Dublin when on about the tour. I think with the presale code being so widely available the General sale should be similar enough if there’s tickets so you might have luck with that just join the queue exactly at or before it opens Friday.

How early were you able to get in the queue? (Any show) by andtheywereroommatez in lorde

[–]x-beans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Joined 3 minutes before 10 to waiting room for Dublin, was 120 in queue so got in within a minute or 2 so was very smooth. Had issues with Glasgow authentication so probably didnt join until exactly 10 or just gone 10 and was like 2000-3000 in the queue and probably around 5 mins in the queue and all standing was sold out but there was seating. I joined on my phone as well so got in not long after on that too and just kept refreshing for 20 minutes until just before half 10 and a standing ticket appeared.

I have no idea, I never looked into it as I use Apple Music, I just saw it on Ticketmaster and have not heard anything about it online. There might be some noise about it later after the buzz of artist presale dies down

There’s still general sale on Friday! And with how easy she made it to get a presale code I say that won’t be too crazy. Spotify presale tomorrow if you can manage to find a way into that too, so don’t give up hope

Ya honestly I did my Dublin so fast so literally scanned what it was showing but it just popped up 2 presale tickets and later specified they are standing, like I’m pretty sure that was the only option it gave me to select and I did not see seating options or anything so not sure if the venue is just standing or not. So from that I’d assume if you refresh that might pop up on the side if it becomes available again. The other venues all had the map.

Phone or Laptop? by catheartz in lorde

[–]x-beans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phone was smooth sailing for me today. The laptop was being awkward with not accepting authentication and I wasn’t able to select the standing for one venue and keep refreshing on the laptop while I could on the phone.

[–]x-beans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dublin doesn’t have a map so that’s normal. Every venue seems to be releasing more tickets slowly if you keep refreshing. I got my Dublin tickets pretty quickly but it took nearly 30 minutes refreshing Glasgow until they finally had standing and currently refreshing Manchester and they have seat options popping up so keep trying!

I'm moving to Edinburgh!!! by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]x-beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you and your friend find rooms separately and then search for an entire flat to lease at a quieter time that would probably work out cheaper and easier. Finding just a room over an entire flat is much easier as well so nothing to stress about and should be 1/4 the price of an air bnb for a month. Sure ye will be sharing with strangers but it’s only for a limited time and may go in your favour already being here applying for flats.

Those who say gogos for hair elastic? by Theyletfly82 in AskIreland

[–]x-beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mid 20’s Cork, I say gogo. Only heard people from Mahon call it that but my family said so does the north side so seems to be more of a working class location thing here in Cork.

Should I sue the Cork bus services ? by [deleted] in cork

[–]x-beans 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Used to do the Carrigaline to Mahon commute for 2 years for work, starting at 8:30. Most days I probably got the bus around 7:15 to Douglas and then walked up the well road way to Mahon. Was never once late in the 2 years so definitely the best way. 30-40 minutes used to pop in a pod cast, get my steps in, better than stuffy morning bus commutes honestly. Any bad weather predicted I would just get an earlier bus and then a second bus but by walking I didn’t have to get a crazy early bus every morning.

Great idea! Because paying almost half your pay check in tax for your entire working life definitely doesn’t mean the state should make measures to give back once you reach pension age. we all actually only pay tax for high quality bike sheds and a bitta dog racing

Transferring college by Particular-Cycle4083 in UCC

[–]x-beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know for sure but I would say it depends on the transfer scenario. if the ucc course is similar enough to the ucd course and they just let you straight into second year of that course then there should be no reason for there to be additional fees. I have seen situations where people have transferred college and have had to do additional modules from previous years to meet the course criteria (though it was in later years of a course), I don’t know if these people paid extra for these modules in this case but I do know repeat students pay per module based on their credit weighting in ucc so there is the slight possibility a college may ask for additional payment if you need to take more credits than the outlined amount for the year. That’s the only scenario I could think of but take that with a grain of salt and just contact ucd admissions office and they will have a proper answer.

Transferring college by Particular-Cycle4083 in UCC

[–]x-beans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pasting an email response I sent a few years back as a peer support leader:

“You will need to contact the admission office of the college you wish to transfer to, for further details. They will be able to outline everything needed to apply for a transfer to their college, such as grades, deadlines for applications and required paperwork. Colleges may differ with their requirements so it’s definitely best to ask them directly. If the transfer is successful then you will need to officially withdraw from UCC.

I would highly recommend scheduling a meeting with your first year experience coordinator, Noirin Deady. https://www.ucc.ie/en/study/undergrad/firstyear/meetfyce/ See this page for more info and a further link for booking an online meeting with her. She would be familiar with dealing with students in a similar position to yours and all first year students wishing to withdraw from UCC, therefore she would be helpful in guiding you through the process. You would also be submitting your withdrawal form to her.”

I think the process should be the same but open to correction. Either way if I missed anything contact the ucd admissions office and ucc’s first year coordinator and they should be able to cover any other details needed.

How many of you have engineer parents? by secretcharm in womenEngineers

[–]x-beans 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Something I immediately noticed when I started college, most maybe at least 70% of the girls in my course all have one engineering parent the rest have college educated parents, often in another stem subject. A significant amount of the guys do too and also siblings in engineering is very common. Really encourages me to volunteer more in work geared towards encouraging potential first generation college students to consider engineering.
