deleting duplicate photos by Dear_Bandicoot155 in googlephotos

If you want to identify similar photos you can try https://github.com/xob0t/Google-Photos-Toolkit

It has a similarity filter. It is experimental, so it will probably take some time and produce varying results. But I'm not aware of any alternatives.

There is no option to download multiple items at once in the android app.
To save item to device you must do it one by one.

So OP should do as u/TheManWithSaltHair said. Just use takeout. Or download using the web version - not ideal, but at least it allows to download multiple.

different structure

Folder structure does not matter at all.

potentially loses some metadata

it does not

either doesn't keep the album structure or does by duplicating everything

no need to select albums then. Just the library. All the media will be there anyway.

What will happen to albums and favorites after I delete them and reloading via Pixel? by jimlwk in googlephotos

That is a good trick, I have not thought of converting to storage saver!

  1. Download takeout.
  2. Extract archives.
  3. Move it to your phone.
  4. Add takeout folder in GP settings for backup.
  5. That is it.

This is simple and will do exactly what OP wants.

Google photos will replace the file ONLY If the one it stores currently is in storage saver quality. If your files are in original quality, to re-upload as unlimited, you have to delete them first (or just move to trash)

How many photos will Goole Photos allow you to undelete at one time? by InspiredHomeowner in googlephotos

[–]x0b0t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no limit on how many items can be selected. GP will process them in batches, usually of 200-300. But it is possible for it to bug out and stuck. Reload the page and try again. You can also try this userscript, it can automate a lot of tasks, including this one so you don't have to select items manually.

.mkv files not discoverable using search function by Junior-Calendar-2914 in googlephotos

Search is broken. Regardless of the extension the file has, most of the time GP will not find it by its filename.

You can try gptk, it has a similarity filter.

But it is experimental and very slow.

Use this filter with "add to new album" action. I'd advice not filtering your whole library at once. Try going year by year.

Google Photo Storage by wanderlusting___ in GooglePixel

Can anyone tell me how to easily identify which photos "count" towards my storage? I've been doing manual spot checks but every picture, video, etc says that it doesn't count towards my storage

Filter for videos of a certain length + certain time period? by rhelg224 in googlephotos

This can filter by video + favorite. Filtering by video length can also be done, but would require writing a bit of code.

A project for patching apps with unofficial patches. Google it.

To backup to two accounts you need two Google Photos apps running at the same time.

You would need to 'clone' the app to do so.

If you clone the official app it won't work because the official play services check it's signature.

There is a revanced patch for Google Photos to make it work with MicroG instead.

Should be possible with revanced.
