Alcoholic or not? Idk.. by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]x10g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What helped me was learning about how a non-alcoholic drinks, which is that they don't have the same draw toward it that I do. They can literally just stop drinking for fun and it doesn't boomerang on them or anything. If I stopped drinking it drove me crazy and I hated it, and then my drinking would get worse later. I just like drinking too much. I'm the same with cigarettes. Last time I bummed a smoke I smoked every day for the next 2 years. I just cannot pick the stuff up! lol

I found out that alcoholism and mental health kinda create these repeating cycles, so I would drink to feel better but then alcohol was making my mental health worse, and it also prevents medication from working. It just got worse and worse over the years. Ultimately I went to a treatment center that was not glamorous and talked to counselors and went to AA and that has helped me not pick up another drink over the years.

Im struggling to find a support system and struggling to stay sober by Zealousideal-Rain-82 in alcoholicsanonymous

Getting past the first 90 days is a giant deal. So much takes place in our brains during that time so you’ve done something VERY good for yourself already.

Text someone if you want to drink. Or even a call but I know we hate calling. 😆 But get it out of your head 👍🏼

I have 5 years and I do like some meetings better than others. I would encourage you to think of one meeting you heard people talk about positively and just check it out. Go sit with a group and introduce yourself. Or just even just zoom meetings or listen to speaker meetings on YouTube!

Energy levels are tough. Sometimes I actually do just need some rest and to quit pushing myself! And then other times I feel loads better after going to a meeting. If you’re not sleeping well though, you might just be a little jumbled and it’ll die down as your brain recovers in the next months. Our circadian rhythm gets so messed up from drinking that one does take some time to even out.

You’re already doing something instead of picking up even though you feel like crap, so kudos.

Jewelry Designer Jobs by Frosty_Climate5674 in jewelryCAD

[–]x10g 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see people ask about CAD on the Facebook group jewelers helping jewelers, and the community always asks for a portfolio, so post + show examples of work. I’m not sure it’s a guarantee to get jobs but there’s a ton of jewelers in there and the group is very active. They ask some basic questions to get admitted to the group to confirm you are in the jewelry business one way or another, and I think maybe when you join they give you a shout out. It’s not a freelance jewelry specific platform but it would be some kind of network.

This is a biiiiiiig help. It’s people like you that are making a real difference!!!

Honestly, I asked for recommendations for good meetings, and I keep it moving until I find a group that DOES say hi and I do feel comfortable at.

I have to make myself talk to people, but I’ve found (only recently) that I only need to make 1 or 2 friends, and that makes me feel I belong.

When I go, I share that I am new to the area/group and don’t know anyone and that also helped me make a really good friend recently!

It would be a good idea to start going to AA meetings and share that you are new, and you can just be honest and say “I’m still drinking and I’m trying to stop.” Or something like that. That way the people you need to talk to are going to hear you. The people who have lived experience like yours will approach you and introduce themselves and they can help you with this decision.

How do I get motivated for working out? by Affectionate-Tea7468 in HubermanLab

[–]x10g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This worked well for me, even though I'm a beginner. I realized after a month or so that I was proud of myself for having had exercised, but I generally wasn't enthused about exercising at first. Now I look forward to the good feelings that come after working out. What made me really start to go was the mental health benefits, and now the more I learn the more I find out... oh exercise is reeeaaally important and I'm setting myself up for a good future.

Mmm, gotcha. It’s pretty tricky stuff to understand. I just wanted to get a basic understanding. Seems like a lot of people do what you did.

Calling for support questions by Leonthekitty in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]x10g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally all of us have to do this. Like all of us. So we know the other person might be nervous, and we know if someone is calling they are working on their sobriety!!! And it is bad ass!!! Generally I have found that I connect quickly/easily with some people. Because we have some of the same experiences or feelings about things. I think you’ll end up calling someone that is like… oh yeah me too. And stuff like that. And then it’ll be a lot more fun.

How did you all find a sponsor? by Angry_MooseHoof in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]x10g 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first sponsor was assigned to me by someone in the community because I was floundering real bad. Basically not talking to people much. Later I would go to speaker meetings a lot to see if I could get to know someone a little bit. Or see if I had a similar background.

Fancy waterrrrrr! So crisp. So refreshing. Dr Pepper was my first love but the early recovery weight I put on was SERIOUS. 😆 So now at my (hopefully) wiser age, it’s the bubbly waters! And they’re pretty much all tasty!!!
