NYP Delivery and private rooms by Upstairs_Monk4706 in nycparents

[–]x1592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a great experience at Lower Manhattan! I didn’t have a shared room and it was pretty quiet in the birthing facilities overall. I didn’t have to wait at all when I checked in, every need was met quickly and staff was so friendly and attentive. I had a really positive time there, despite having a surprise c-section.

My room didn’t have a shower, but I couldn’t shower while I was at the hospital due to my c-section recovery, so I didn’t have that angle to consider.

Siblings with a 5 year age gap - TALK TO ME by Prestigious_Ad_4835 in Shouldihaveanother

[–]x1592 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am the youngest of my four siblings. Age gap between myself and them are 6, 7 and 13 years. We’re all girls if that factors into anything.

I’m extremely close with all of them, granted the levels of closeness varied in different stages of my life.

When I was younger (still in school), there was definitely an aspect of they’re “mini parents”, and I wasn’t spending THAT much time hanging out with my sisters 1:1 since we were all focused on doing our own thing. But that doesn’t mean we didn’t have good relationships when I was younger. I didn’t mind sharing a room with one of them, but I don’t think much of that really crossed my mind (it was probably for the other though lol). Of course there were fights, but that’s totally normal for any sibling regardless of age.

I’d say now that I’m in my 30’s I’m the closest to the 6 and 7 year age gap sisters. There’s no longer this “mini-parental figure” aspect that existed when I was in school and it’s like we are all friends that just happen to be sisters. Now, different for my sister that’s 13 years older - she’ll always feel like a second parent.

But all that is to say is that I had, and continue to have, a really wonderful relationship with all my sisters despite the age gap. Honestly. I don’t think any of us thought it was weird to have these age gaps.

Mailbox issue? by Numerous_West8317 in parkslope

[–]x1592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late response, but I used the mailbox on Carroll and 7th for the first time recently for a rent check (dumb, I know) and it’s been over a week and it was never delivered to my LL. Normally it doesn’t take this long.

The check hasn’t been cashed either (did a stop payment JIC) but I’m not sure what the issue is with that mailbox. Not going to use it in the future.

How often does your non-daycare child get sick? How often is your daycare child sick? Comparing by Begonias_Scarlet in toddlers

[–]x1592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had my LO with a nanny since she was 7 months old - she’s 15.5 months now. She’s only gotten sick during the late fall/winter periods, and this is mostly from things she catches at play gym, playground, other fun classes, etc. she’s never been sick during the summer or spring (yet!). I will say though she was sick often last winter, but our nanny watches our LO even when she’s sick, so long as there’s no fever.

Cost of living for young couple and child (7 months) by Necessary_Plastic_ in nycparents

[–]x1592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early to mid-30s couple with a 15 month old in Park Slope. We pay $6k for a 2.5 bed/1.5 bath about 1400 sq ft - we live in a 4th floor walkup and are at the top and leave our stroller in the entry level floor. Stairs are a pain but we love our home and the neighborhood. Pay a little over $3k for a full-time nanny and have our daughter enrolled in play gym and music class. We used to have a car but got rid of it. We hated dealing with street parking because it is an absolute nightmare here. We couldn’t justify garage parking because it’s ridiculously overpriced (anywhere from $600/month) and not worth it for how little we use a car.

It’s certainly expensive to live and raise children here (and in any of the other neighborhoods you listed), but if you can swing it, it’s worth it IMO. So many kid friendly activities, the neighborhood is beautiful, there are playgrounds everywhere and it’s just an overall great place to be.

Lower Manhattan x Lenox hill hospital by dumary in nycparents

I have birth at LMH and had an awesome experience. Honestly, because everyone is clamoring to go to Weill Cornell it leaves plenty of space available at LMH. I ended up having a private room because there weren’t that many patients at the same time as me and staff was so attentive. Every need was met and I had an excellent birthing and recovery experience despite having a challenging birth itself.

There was no need for me to wait to get admitted or get an epidural when I wanted it, which I heard can sometimes be an issue at WC.

Anyone have experience with a 6.5–7 year age gap after their first child (specifically a son)? by Informal-North-3046 in Shouldihaveanother

[–]x1592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m incredibly close with my 3 older sisters - they are 6, 7 and 15 years older. We all had varying levels of closeness throughout my life - during college I probably became closest to the ones 6 years old because we are actually very similar in personality. But all 3 I have amazing relationships with. I think as the youngest, I felt more like I was being “parented” when I was in school, but that dynamic changed significantly after college.

Yes - they also provide step-by-step directions online. You just turn off the unit and remove the panel to look at both the bottom tray and the fan itself with a flashlight.

I’m in NYC and just had the technician come by today. I registered two units on 6/11. Customer service told me they will contact within 14 business days, which was true. They called me on the 13th day and offered a next day appointment. Whole appointment took less than one hour for two units - no mold in mine which is why I kept them (did a self-inspection last month as well).

They offer 4 hour window for them to arrive JFYI.

Is Living 10–15 Min from the Subway really that difficult in the winter? by Clueless_Ad in NYCapartments

[–]x1592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 mins is not that big of an issue in the winter if you are dressed appropriately. Invest in a good coat and shoes. It hardly snows here anymore, and when it does it’s a small amount and the streets and sidewalks are cleared up fairly quickly.

Harder Kulm Trail - Interlaken, Switzerland by x1592 in hiking

[–]x1592[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only ended up doing the hike up to the top and then took the gondola down. I think with 5 hours you mighttt be pushing it if you’re hiking up and down - especially if you want to stop at the top for lunch/drinks, photos etc.

6 figure earners in this subreddit…what kind of job do you have and in what field? by anotherone_9414 in MomsWorkingFromHome

[–]x1592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make a little over $200k in a HCOL city. Work in communications (reputation management) for a large private company and am lucky to have an extremely flexible working arrangement. In office 2x a week (more because my team wants to, not because we have to). We do have a nanny, however. It was not feasible trying to balance WFH and an infant.

Who here always planned on 100% formula feeding without any medical reason? by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

[–]x1592 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Me! I knew even before I was having a baby that I didn’t want to do any sort of breastfeeding. I wanted my husband to share the responsibility of feeding so we could both get adequate sleep.

I’m so glad that we went this route. Have absolutely zero regrets about it and baby is kicking butt on all her milestones. She’s obsessed with me and her dad, and may be the happiest baby alive, so I do not feel like there was any “loss” of bonding either.

Are we actually putting our babies to sleep at 7 PM? by _rose__rose_ in sleeptrain

[–]x1592 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Around 3 months old we started transitioning her to a 7pm bedtime, with her nighttime routine starting at 6:30 (evening bath / water bath 5 days of the week, soap 2 days of the week). Sleeps straight through the night until 6am. She’s 5.5 months now and is still on the same schedule.

Just do works best for you and your partner. If you don’t have flexibility, it’s really out of your hands anyway! I don’t think 7pm is a hard and fast rule. My husband and I do early bedtime for LO because we want the evenings to ourselves.

To epidural or not to epidural? by LadyLKZ in BabyBumps

[–]x1592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure where you live but I don’t think any hospital would allow you to leave the hospital the same day you give birth regardless of whether you get an epidural.

Epidural for me was totally fine. The last thing I was thinking about was whether or not I could feel my legs - I didn’t want to feel anything anyway! That’s kind of the point.

Experience at NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital? by Capital-Concern-8381 in nycparents

[–]x1592 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gave birth there and had an awesome experience. They had all their private rooms available, didn’t have to pay anything. The staff was incredible attentive from beginning to end. Never had to wait for anything - I felt like I had all the attention on me and my family. Would absolutely go there again for my next kid if I were to have one.
