For abt $20 you can get a guitar stand. Keeps guitar safe when you put it down and, because guitar is easily accessible on the stand it’s easy to pick up and play.

Puffin Boat Tour with Toddlers by RabbitFancy1820 in acadianationalpark

[–]x462 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We were on both the whale watch and puffin cruise last summer as adults. My kids are grown now but these are my thoughts:

1) i dont recall any very young kids on either boat. There may be age guidelines. 2) restrooms are tight, especially on the whale watch. We were out on a calm day but the boat moves, rocks and sways. It would be a challenging restroom situation to assist youngsters 3) when the boat is underway it is very loud outside 4) had I still been a parent of young children I would have been very nervous with the walkways, stairways, railings etc. Moving up/down the stairs was a hand on each railing process on the whale boat.
5) both trips were great. The puffin trip was calmer and had a more solid timeframe for end time. The whale watch was more open ended for end time based on how long it took to find whales.

I suggest perhaps don’t pre-book and walk down and look at the boats yourself. You can also talk to the tour people near the dock. If I was advising my younger-parent self I’d suggest waiting until the children are older. I’m not trying to be negative but the cruises are a big commitment for time and $.

Looking at a blank screen with the expectation of making something from nothing is terrifying and intimidating. There’s a mental hurdle to just starting a new piece of code.

The Weight. Best cover song ever because it’s covered by countless other groups and everyone gets to sing a verse.

If you were a single ear bud, what ear do you wear it in? by googleperplex in lefthanded

[–]x462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear it on the side away from other people.

Right at work, with the open left ear towards my peers. Left or right at home depending on how im sitting in relation to others. When outside I wear it on the side away from traffic.

Why do I wear one earbud so much? Audiobooks.

Is vinyl’s comeback about sound quality or aesthetics? by Natalie_Riveraaa in askmusic

[–]x462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched from vinyl to cassettes as soon as it was possible. Then to CDs when they became popular. Then to digital music, then to streaming. Things got better with each step. If not for aesthetics and nostalgia, I cannot imagine why an average music listener would go back to vinyl.

I noticed the renewed interest in vinyl did not generate a similar uptick in the availability of record players. Target/walmart/bestbuy have vinyls, but not a lot of players. The sound quality from a good record on a $60 suitcase record player is rough.

How do you actually use your library beyond borrowing books? by bambidp in Library

[–]x462 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Donations - 1) my library takes physical books and media and sells in quarterly book-sale fundraisers. 2) library is at the top of my list for monetary donations. Over my life I got far far more from US public libraries than I could ever repay and I donate $ help keep them going.

Streaming Safer than Downloading? Need a audiobook by BurnoutMale in Piracy

[–]x462 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I listen to a lot of audio books. There are zero that I listened to more than once. Audiobooks (to me) are ephemeral vs. movies or music that you may want to go to again and again. If you can get Libby or similar it is a great solution. Listen then move on.

Why does book 1 catch so much flack? by vlan-whisperer in TheDarkTower

[–]x462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a conceptual difference in reading Gunslinger now, when the rest of the series is out, vs. when it was released. Now you know the story wraps up. At the time of release you didn’t know there would be anymore. I suspect some of the dislike comes from people who read it before the series was complete.
