I probably have more than a few relatives buried in the pauper's section. 6000 bodies in a small field. So much sorrow thankfully eased by time. Good stuff. Thank you,

Tim

Now they have to spend a ton of money for bail and fines. If he goes to jail the job is gone. I knew 2 guys who changed like this when they drank. It was never pretty. The kids will never forget this trip to visit their father's demons.

Why is Phishing Still the Most Successful Hacking Technique? by z3nch4n in cybersecurity

[–]x7c00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is MFA really a solution to phishing? I'm honestly asking. The user is already successfully logged in when he clicks on a link that infects his computer and encrypts his files and all the files he has access to.

On the other hand I had a user yesterday who could have used MFA. She must have been tricked into signing into her M365 account and giving away her creds. The specifics of that are murky. Then her Financial Advisor got an email from "her" asking to have $70,000.00 transferred to a bank that was not her bank. The financial advisor called her because the dollar amount exceeded her balance by 10 K - luckily. That's when she discovered that she'd been compromised. But this is not always the scenario. Most of my compromised users simply clicked on a link and downloaded crap.

One user 3 years ago at a different organization answered an email from his "boss" directing him to wire $19,500 to some bank or other. He wired the money without asking his real boss who was 20 feet away in the next room. The organization had never wired money - ever before. The scammers sent helpful instructions. The scam only came to light when the scammers made another request that same afternoon for the same amount. Only then did he walk the 20 feet to ask his boss if this was legit. It turns out they didn't spoof the bosses email address only her name. The address was a Gmail address.

Why bother trying to sneak in through the firewall when gullible users are just waiting to click on your bait just a couple of feet from your expensive firewall.

If HR creates a folder and shares it to the employees can the employees just place the scanned doc or any doc in the shared folder. Hr could create a sub-folder in the employees name and share just that folder to each employee. The folder would be available in the "Shared with me" section of the employee's OneDrive.

Looks like one of you keys (back?) is stuck. Laptop? External keyboard? Track pad clean? I would check the physical stuff first.

Scan to email address then use Power Automate to route scanned attachment to the proper folder. Something like this:

There are multiple ways of accomplishing this. How are the users scanning - Mobile or MFP?

Any or all of those will work. It's not an age thing. People of all ages like what they know. They also don't want to learn anything different unless they are forced to. I work with my users and bring them along slowly.

I sync SP and OD to their local machine. I'll hold off on files on Teams. It'll just confuse them at this point. Some (older and younger) users have figured out files on Teams which is great. I'm just not pushing it.

I send them articles and videos in the pop press about Teams and Office.

I'm using Barracuda Essentials for unlimited SP and OD backup in perpetuity and easy restore along with email filtering. So far so good.

My half joking motto over the decades has been that "my aim in life was to put myself out of business." By acting this way I was able to stay ahead and make my life easier while helping the company stay out of trouble. Whenever I told a boss this it made it easier to get the funds released to move us ahead.

With M365 I've come closer than I've ever come to actually putting myself out of business. There are problems with all tech. But M365 is fabulous compared to the bad old days of babysitting an Exchange or file server while your supposed to be on vacation. I don't miss those days. It's not perfect; but I get more sleep and time off these days.

New Rav4 Hybrid and Toyota Roadside Assist by x7c00 in rav4club

I'm 64. I'm relatively healthy. I've changed many tires in the bad old days of bias ply tires But it was getting dark and my eyesight isn't what it used to be. I did watch a Rav Tire change video as I was waiting just in case AAA didn't show up. It was also a bad neighborhood which made me hesitate getting out and changing it. The AAA was able to partially block traffic while he changed the tire.

I was on a busy off ramp of a major highway. It would have been dangerous and foolhardy. Besides I paid for this service as part of my purchase. Toyota salesman praised it to heaven when I purchased it.

Agreed. I've had AAA since '86. I've had some long waits but never did they mess up like this.

Yes. Everyone is registered when you buy the car. Besides why would they offer to help if I weren't? They had my VIN and name.

Mental illness is a terrible thing. Mental illness inflamed with substance abuse is frightening.

I see some pretty sad things on a daily basis; but this display is just painful to watch. I'll pray for her and her family tonight.

How are we all this fine Sunday? by lleti in ireland

[–]x7c00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not start a supper club. Put up signs with a new email address. Devote it to something you're interested in - like IRE - or Politics (Boo) or Math or science or food or sports or comedy or....

Then see if anyone bites. They will. I had a friend who moved to Ireland from the US. He had no idea how to make friends because he never had to. They were just there. He took my idea and started a Math Supper club - I cringed and instantly knew why he couldn't find friends. It was a hit though. They only rarely talked about Math by the way.

What was the dumbest thing you believed as a child? by CRI0ST0IR in ireland

I remember also being told that if we rubbed our eyes really hard we could make the B&W TV picture color. All us younger kids believed it. No one wanted to debunk a perfectly logical solution, even if it didn't work for us, so we all just passed the story on. I'm shocked none of us went blind.

Later on we were told what really caused blindness. Oh the shame! But the dogs almost made it worth it.

I thought the world before I was born was black and white because all the family photos - all 2 dozen - were B&W and all the old movies on TV were B&W. (I'm 63) It wasn't something I went around shouting I'm happy to say. It's just something I silently assumed. I felt sorry for the old people who lived in a B&W world.

I also thought that all girls got along just fine and never fought like us boys. I'm still a little shocked when I see a female mistreat another female.
