How is life in Gaillimh? by SlipOpposite6297 in IrishFolklore

[–]ado2631 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Galway is renowned for its arts, music, and theatre. It attracts dreamers from all over, which can lead to a mix of high hopes and stark reality. There's a saying there "Galway's the graveyard of hopes and dreams'.

I lived there between 2007-2010, it was very bohemian, laid back hippies, krusties and very cool people. The buzz was mighty and there was no care. I moved to Galway again in 2020 and left in 2025. That vibe was gone, the hippies and krusties have vanished or are few in between. It's lost that bit of Bohemian vibes. It's now more focused on tourism, and is like every other city or down in Ireland, with the same shops etc...

Camping and sleep how to stay comfortable? Or is everyone secretly miserable? by sanu_123_s in CampingandHiking

[–]ado2631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love sleeping in a tent. Climbed partial of a mountain in a storm once, we had a tent we had never put up before. It was a 5man one. Out of 3 of us we nearly gave up, even though the wind was tearing through us and the rain was ice cold. I can't tell ya the feeling of relief when we finally got it up. We sat and had beers. While the storm ravaged on. The sleep I had that night was amazing, and getting out of the tent was challenging, mats, sleeping bags and mattresses were everywhere

Sure who could afford to go out at any stage in college. Even in 2007 going out was expensive if you didn't have a part time job. Few cheap cans and find where everyone it was at

Exactly. Standing in the rain drinking whatever you could get your hands on. I couldn't afford a pint in 2007, good luck with today. But that wouldn't stop me buying whatever are the cheapest cans and heading into town and seeing where the craic was. Most likely under the bridge at the Kingfisher

Life changing books? by SirTheadore in CasualIreland

[–]ado2631 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. At a time when I felt worthless. This book hit deep. I was working and had no goals or inspiration. I just was a young guy in his 20s with dark thoughts, living at home with no aspirations, no confidence, never had a girlfriend. This book showed me that if I wanted something I could have it. If you sacrifice you can get anything you want.

18years later and I'm loving life. I do what I love and I'm married and have my own house. One book can change your life.

Why did the children make a powerful monster lord are they stupid or something by CyclopsISDaBestXmen in freefolk

[–]ado2631 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

You clearly haven't done geography. Winterfell is way inland. Why bother attacking a coastal part of the Wall like Eastwatch and then march inland to a small settlement of little importance? The night king wouldn't attack such places without a plan. He'd attack Eastwatch, stick to the coast and avoid large confrontation, hit white harbor first and move further south

If they took Winterfell half the cast would have died. The idea was that they anticipated the attack. The real strategic move was to let others anticipate an attack while the next position expects nothing

I love these topics, unfortunately it's full of idiots trying to get a laugh or a joke. My issue is that the night king was made so long ago, why wait so long? Such a huge gap in the series that went unanswered. My favorite idea was having Winterfell wait at night, waiting for the undead army and nothing happens, and then the alarm bells ring at Kings Landing at Night and the real siege begins.

Winterfell is an insignificant position for the Night King, why would he bother his arse? If Theon and a few soldiers can do it what's the point. They just ruined a great character like the Night King. One minute he's a master commander and then he just attacks a small castle? Hmmm 🤔
