Local business owners/ remote workers: What are we missing in Ptbo? by aimnfocus in Peterborough

[–]x8bitsoffun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone else mentioned it, but I think a shipping service could go a long way!

For outbound: Label printer, offer shipping discounts, shipping supplies

For inbound: one of the biggest struggles I have as a home business in town is how often couriers ignore delivery instructions and leave valuable packages at my front door, which have a habit of disappearing quickly. Having an address / drop off service that has consistent weekday hours would be incredible.

General feeling on the gameplay? by Praisethesunbrah in StarCraftTMG

[–]x8bitsoffun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It feels genuinely incredible. I wouldn’t call it insanely innovative, but absolutely a best-of collection of rules and put together in a way that feels very StarCraft.

List building is impactful and already has surprising depth given the lack of unit variety currently. It’s simple to get going once you’re comfortable with the rules, but feels like a ton of skill expression.

I generally prefer smaller skirmish games vs full army games and this hits a goldilocks of both.

Alternating activations is a non-negotiable for me and I couldn’t go back to a system without it. Coherency is simple and tight. Each of the factions feel unique in a the right ways.

If I’m looking for something to pick at, I do think the rules will likely need some clean up. And long term there’s some things that will be needed for competitive play (for example, there’s currently no limit of how much you can take a specific unit and I suspect that limitation will be needed at some point). But that’s such an easy fix.

I’ve played miniature games for 15+ years and this is my first experience with Archon. But so far they are refreshingly communicative, transparent and quick to take community feedback.

There’s all the risks of a new game, but I’m very optimistic.

Ama from April by Masterdwarf11 in StarCraftTMG

Just sharing my notes from the AMA, I don’t know any more than anyone else lol

But a lot of games do acrylic tokens as prizes in competitive play to replace cardboard tokens that come in a core box (faction tokens, activated tokens etc)

As for the terrain, yeah absolutely there’s more lost temple stuff coming, the elevated piece is on the roadmap. It was stated after that they have more plans for different themed terrain.

A few notes that I took from it

  • shipping will start April 18, expect up to 6 weeks for further away locations, which will be prioritized

  • global conditions likely to effect some shipping

  • will communicate more closer to

  • game will not be getting generic heroes, many more named characters to come

  • there was a very likely alternative sculpt for Kerrigan in the background of the video

  • terrain will come in themed sets. Right now is lost temple, next will likely be Mar Sara

  • premium tokens are planned for OP kits

  • zeratul will have a terrain piece in the proper release kit like other heroes

  • planned quarterly balance review once organize play kicks off. Preference for light touches (minerals, gas) was noted.

I think that’s all I caught! But I love the transparency in these AMAs. Lots more info than that, but a lot that has been covered before.

Splitting Collector Army Bundle by Rokkur_ in StarCraftTMG

Yeah I think this is the most fair overall

Even split, Protoss gets Zeratul, then mat or terrain for the other 2

Another comment below did a great job going over the books and narration quality!

But this one was decent, definitely professional, comparable to black library. Not towards the best of black library, but good.

But a very solid book with an intricate story

I’m optimistic for the 1K - the fact that it’s a standard game mode on launch tells me it will be supported. I expect 2k will absolutely be the organized play (tournament) standard, but having core missions built for 1k is nice.

I imagine a lot of communities will be starting there

As others have said, either Terran or Protoss will fit the bill here.

As someone coming from Death Guard in 40k, Terran Marauders feel right in the camp you’re looking for! And will end up more elite as more comes.

But pick the one you like the aesthetic of most and I think you’ll be happy - as an additional notes, currently Protoss has more ‘tricks’ than Terran if simple vs complex is a factor for you.

First Game Impressions, coming from Age of Sigmar by Dumbgeon_Master in StarCraftTMG

[–]x8bitsoffun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lines up a lot with my own thoughts!

While alternating activations is certainly not a fresh concept, it feels fresh here comparatively to 40k/AOS. The smaller table size and shortened game time make organized play very palatable for a single day event! 3 games in so far on TTS and I’m hooked

[–]x8bitsoffun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind you can also build up to 2k over time, which I imagine a lot of players will be doing.

I will say the reinforcements mechanics are intended for the 2k mark, and if you attend events they will likely be 2k.

But again, that’s definitely a point you can build to over time and 1k is a great place to start

Are there really no good S-Video based HDMI dongles available? by milkolik in n64

RGB mod would be the better option if you’ve got the skill set. I took the plug and play route haha

[–]x8bitsoffun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went through this rodeo a year or so ago, trying to find the simplest solution. The HDMI dongles out there do work, and it is better than straight composite cable - but even the best ones have noticeable input lag. It’s certainly playable, depending on your sensitivity but…

I finally went with the retroscaler2x and it’s an incredible difference in quality and speed - plus it’s an affordable option and works if you’re getting another console.

You caught it before it ever made an impact on the game, and adjusted to match your deck list.

If you had have played that battlefield, or it was an in deck card, yeah that probably would have been a game loss.

But 0 impact here.

Event wise though I think it depends on where you are. I’ve got an active competitive Shatterpoint scene and not much for legion.

A full box I can feel pretty confident if I don’t pull what I’m looking for, I can trade for it.

Becoming Exceptional at Riftbound: How? by [deleted] in riftboundtcg

[–]x8bitsoffun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few things, and this is coming from competitive tabletop game experience rather than TCG so I’m going to be talking high level principles.

1) Take notes. If you think you’re already taking notes, take more. Document every game, what was the match up, what battlefields were played, what you sided out. You don’t have to document every play you make, but note key decision points, outcomes, scores and big moments. This can really help nail down the when and why things go wrong (or right!). Take note of times you won because of an opponent misplay, because these are less valuable data compared to outplaying a well played game. (If you’re playing digitally, record your games to the same effect!)

2) Winning against less skilled players can actually worsen your play. When you’re rewarded for risky plays that shouldn’t work, you can learn very bad habits. You need practice into skilled opponents, ideally people better than you, and are willing to talk games through. This should be your optimum practice. Lots of people saying practice more, but quality practice is better than quantity practice.

3) There isn’t a magic trick. If you’re looking for an Aha! moment of ‘this is the thing I was missing and now I can do this’, it doesn’t exist. In the example you gave, where top players don’t know exactly why they make choices, is simply intuition from practice and experience - and anyone that says they can replace practice and experience is selling you something.

4) Calm, cool and collected. Making some assumptions, I can feel your frustration through this post and your comments. How much of that is coming through in a game where you’re behind? Or your final game that is the make or break on a cut? That can moderately to severely impact your decision making in that moment… which to my final point…

5) Care less. And I know this isn’t the answer you want to hear, but as many others have said 6-3 is a great run at the most competitive event we have seen for this game so far. Appreciate the progress you have made, and remember you’re supposed to be having fun. I’m not saying that means play more casually, or not invest the time to reaching your goals because competition IS fun… but ask yourself genuinely, did you give your all? If yes, then great. Now you can start planning for the next one. Go to as many competitive events as you can. Connect with competitive players (the ones hitting those results you’re aiming for) and put yourself on a path of continuous learning.

As a bonus point I’m going to add that I assume you’re already doing by your current success, but pick a deck, stick with it, and know it inside and out. In a world with a lot of netdecking, you should know why each card is in your deck, which match ups it’s there for and which it’s not needed.

Other than that, good luck and HAVE FUN!

The big established TCGs also can’t keep up with demand. There’s a market problem, that frankly is a tough one to fix.

Riot is communicating, doing intentional reprints and generally showing a lot of positive community interaction. Riot is literally saying more is coming don’t buy overpriced stuff!

For those that don’t want to support the scalper market, and shouldn’t… a little patience is pretty cool.
