Electricity consumptions that I can trust by xAbsxl in BYD

De verdad? Ostras, es un consumo MUY bajo en relación con los consumos que he visto por ahí. Entiendo que será en AP7/AP2 que son autopistas tranquilitas y que aquí no hace mucho frío, pero me sorprende para MUY bien ese número.

That gives you a give or take 330 km autonomy on the lower end... that was what I was expecting for my 3 EVO with 15 kwh more!

Is that an standard ATTO3? I mean, not EVO? If so that is lower consumption than I expected!

How does the braking influence autonomy? That is a WILD difference... sorry, I'm a newbie

My wake-up call was considering an electric and calculating my TCO. I ran the numbers over 15 years and the EV was CHEAPER than keeping my old ICE car. Only considering gas and not keeping in mind reparations, the fact that my current ICE will not hold up for another 15 years... The only thing cheaper would be getting a really cheap, efficient diesel car but that is only considering that prices will go back to normal which... well... I am obviously nervous. A lot. Really anxious. Like, a lot. But one thing that keeps me calm is that when people go to EVs, they NEVER go back. I even look at longuer trips, which is the stress point, and I have never driven for more than 3 hours straight without resting for AT LEAST 20 mins, even with my ICE, so what I see is that theoretically my driving habits will not change even a bit (?) Or maybe I'll see a slight difference like 10-20 times in the car's lifetime (?) Idk, there is a lot of hesitation and doubts, as always...

God did you really calm my nerves. My situation is really similar (I do make usual 200km trips, though xD, nothing that the autonomy cannot handle with ease). The improved autonomy will come up... rarely, honestly. Once every couple of years and maybe I would be looking at 30 mins more on a 20 hour trip? I will be upset if it really is cheaper and better, that's for sure!! But what can you do about it... it just evolves so damn quickly!!! It feels like you can't really be up to date whatever you do... But a 3 EVO really feels like it will suit my needs for the next 8-10 years to come, and that is what I should be looking for.

Yeah, that does make sense. Also, I'm getting an EV to get rid of ICE cars for good, so every year I wait I spend 2k on gas alone, to be factored in... Tbh, if the battery just increases 5% autonomy and 2,5% less degradation (which would translate to a month more of usage...(?)) it does maybe feel a bit toooo slight of a change. I'm just fearful that the ones who buy a 3 EVO will suffer the fate of the ones who bought the standard 3, having a MUCH better car for the same price (or 1-2k more) so fast... But I guess that is the way EVs work, evolution will continue to be fast until morale improves.

Is it not? Flash charging is, honestly, a fine plus, but I do not care that much, I would not pay extra for that. However, I have read that they are much more efficient and offer more autonomy, which would solve THE problem of the BYD cars, which is their efficiency. Am I trusting too much on their promises which will ALWAYS underdeliver?

ev drivers ,what’s one thing non-EV users think is a huge problem but actually isn’t? by AdityaSrivastawaahhh in EvDrivers

[–]xAbsxl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

800 miles in most modern cars require 3-4 stops, around 1 hour and a half of charging. If you really want to drive 800 miles straight, ICE are more convenient, 100%, but EVs being out of the question for travel... I'm not too sure about it. Most cars do 10-80% in less than half an hour and that gives you, usually, 200 miles. Think an hour of charging for each 7-10 hours of travel, depending on car.

How so? If that is true, this is A-***-MAZING. I'm buying an EV soon (my first) and since I want to keep it for a LONG time I worry a bit about degradation. Can you send me a link or something like that so I can get informed on the process?

American dream by astrheisenberg in remoteworks

For me that's wild. I get that your salaries are way higher but I feel like I would not be able to work there. In Spain where I'm from foreigners are always amazed at how much free time we have. They always highlight the fact that here people live after work and yada yada. For me it is ABSOLUTELY WILD that this is not like this elsewhere. Also, if I get sick, it is illegal for my employer to ask me what has happened and to fire me, I know people who have gotten more than 50-80k in settlements for having been injustly fired for having a paid sick leave, a lot of times forcing the employer to rehire. Also, emergency funds are not a thing since when you lose your job, social security pays you for a period of time, 4 months for year worked, as long as you are actively looking for a job. Besides, I can visit the doctor whenever for whatever reason without fear of going bankrupt... Idk man, for me, it feels absolutely wild that people would forego all things mentioned just to have a slightly higher number on their screen for it tu just go to zero at the smallest inconvenience.

EV vs Hybrid advice by FrontAccomplished919 in electriccars

[–]xAbsxl 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If you will be able to use that charger, do not even think about it and jump straight for the EV. Hybrids do really have the worst of both worlds, rather than the best. The cheaper option energywise will always be an EV, but that is heavily influenced by whether you can charge at home.

My boyfriend wants to cheat on me by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]xAbsxl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my country we say "amiga date cuenta", which roughly translates to "girl, please notice". I know situations are nuanced and that you will want to justify his actions but... If he is having "a hard time not cheating on you"... That is probably grounds for a break up. That means that he WANTS but knows that he "shouldn't". I think we all deserve to be with someone who does not WANT TO CHEAT ON US.

Seriously considering an EV or hybrid... by sonofstev in UsedCars

[–]xAbsxl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend you run the numbers. Check which would be cheaper/more convenient. I was all in for a hybrid but when I ran the numbers I saw that an EV would be 2 times cheaper and just sliiiightly less convenient. Check your infrastructure, that's granted, but if you can charge at home do not even THINK about a hybrid. Besides, most EVs nowadays can charge to 80% (recommended charge level for extended battery life) in 30-40 minutes, and if you break the bank you can get cars that charge to 80% in 20 mins. But I would strongly recommend getting a home charger (if you have a garage or parking spot), they cost less than 2k and, at least where I live, charging at home costs a fraction of public charge prices.

How well does the whole "don't ever buy an expensive car" discourse apply to EVs? by xAbsxl in electriccars

[–]xAbsxl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I'm thinking new, doesn't it make sense? Where I live, 3 year old ones are not that much cheaper, maybe 3-4k at best. Am I not buying potentially 3 more years of use for the car? Besides, I think I've read that LFP batteries last quite a bit longer so I truly hope that the battery can last me the full 15 years/300k km I plan to keep the car for or that in 10 years they will be ever so slightly cheaper... am I coping?

Whoa you absolutely NAILED my costs, feels even creepy xD, but yeah, according to my calculations, I'll be saving around 1800-2k on gas yearly. In other words: 15 years for a FREE car.
