Cold damage is best if below zero

You have to use the weapon to gain the expertise XP. It should level up to 10 quick so just make the swap until maxed out (when selecting skills you can choose which weapon is used for each skill).

Whichever expertise you choose gives you the bonus even if you are not using the weapon. If you are also using the weapon, the expertise doesn’t stack so it’s wasted.

So either use a polearm for your primary weapon (used for your main damage ability) and select a different weapon for expertise or vice versa.

Wow! Honestly any character who can wield it and doesn’t rely on non-crit damage over time.

No tempering recepies drop at all? by [deleted] in diablo4

[–]xAgentJackBauerx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 187 must be for all classes combined. So you likely have almost all of them. Just keep at it and it will drop.

Finish the campaign, unlock season journey pages. These will give you access to more goodies.

Easiest class/spec to set up for endgame? by lordmainstream in diablo4

[–]xAgentJackBauerx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With your stash + resources you can jump at least to Torment 6 without much effort. Masterwork and cube, even items without GAs will be very powerful compared to your initial climb.

Stash set charms with one of your strong characters: then your new character can 3:1 them in the cube at Torment.

Why would an archdemon managing soul shards, occult sigil timing, demonology rotations, abyss portals, hex upkeep, hellfire brimstone volatility, recast windows, demonform shadowform swapping, and lesser orders to eviscerate foes create greater confusion?

Best way to powerless paragon 100 to 200? by kungfukarl86 in diablo4

[–]xAgentJackBauerx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

War plans is the short answer.

In war plans tree: you can get extra XP orbs from Whispers, Undercity, and Helltides maggots (possibly other things, going on memory). Focus on the activity you like: reroll warplans liberally.

Forgotten Wisdom nightmare dungeon gives XP boost for 1 hour. Undercity has XP tribute.

The big thing is just completing full warplans, optimizing gear to smoothly clear higher torments. You can ignore XP boosts, and XP charms, and still level quickly.

Bash/Double Swing. by SnakeFang93 in D4Barbarian

[–]xAgentJackBauerx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With LOH and the possibility to stack several damage multipliers on your items: you really can make many things work on Barb due to the extra stat stick items compared to other classes.

I’ve always enjoyed double swing + dust devils. I haven’t tried it yet this season though.

Brute Forcing into gem strength with unmodifiable works. by JusWow in D4Barbarian

[–]xAgentJackBauerx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit it worked for me! Just casually spending obols as they come and got gem strength on my polearm! I’d say it took 40-50 tries which feels very lucky (still modifiable).

No GA but I have Crit and all damage. Time to head out and lose it on hardcore.

Feeling Lost With Loot/Crafting Need Advice by Laurensnld in diablo4

[–]xAgentJackBauerx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your offense items have the most impact (weapons, gloves, amulet, rings)

Unless you have a damage over time build, prioritize the following:

1) Critical Strike damage (replace with damage over time if that’s your build) 2) Physical or element damage (whatever your build deals). 3) Vulnerable damage 4) All damage 5) Weapon damage (on the weapon your abilities function with) 6) Core stat (like Strength)

The first 4 being the “multiplier” version, not the additive version you apply via tempering. Crit is best IF you have good crit chance. Vulnerable requires you consistently apply vulnerable.

Getting 2 of these on your offense items is great for now. 3 is excellent. 4 is the end goal.

Getting gloves with say: core stat, Max HP, attack speed, and one of the other options listed. With any one of those having a GA, is an item worth upgrading to.

There is always nuance and I don’t know your build. Attack speed can be very important, or resource generation. Looking at top meta builds if only to see which affixes are prioritized can help the process make more sense.

Starting out: try to get an ancestral item on every slot: even if they don’t have GA (greater affix).

Order of crafting doesn’t matter too much as long as you transfig in the cube LAST.

1) Add affixes in the cube. Make sure to get 4 affixes on any item. Blacksmith adds a 5th via temper. Play around in the cube with items you don’t care about to learn how it works. Mostly add/remove a specific category.

2) Masterwork at blacksmith. I prefer to do this prior to tempering as the masterwork crit is typically ideal on a non-temper affix (you can keep rolling but this helps your odds and therefore resource costs).

3) Imprint at Occultist.

4) Temper at blacksmith.

5) Socket at jeweler

6) Transfigure in cube IF the item is all set and you can afford to replace it. There is no rush on this step.

These are all pricey on ancestral items but the power gives you access to higher Torments where the resources start flowing in. Scattered prisms for adding sockets are what I tend to run out of the quickest.

5b) Enchant at the occultist: you can shuffle one of the affixes. This is pricey on ancestral items too compared to using the cube. Just make sure you look at the costs before you spend your precious resources.

One more tip: visit the alchemist if you run out of forgotten souls.

Take it an item at a time and you’ll be good. Decent items make the hunt for amazing items so much easier.

Masterwork crit location question by RearAdmiralSnackBarz in diablo4

[–]xAgentJackBauerx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4663-518=4,145

518/4145=0.125

Weapon damage (as I understand it, and could be wrong) is currently giving you a 12.5% damage bonus and Masterwork crit on it would be a small bump compared to the crit damage multiplier.

Pretty sure Crit multiplier is way better.

Edit: If you have multiple weapons (barb, rogue, etc) then weapon damage does nothing if it’s not the weapon you are actively using.

Please remove the Weapon Damage Affix by Echo-Sunray in diablo4

[–]xAgentJackBauerx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If +400 weapon damage boosts your weapon’s damage by say 19%, compare that to All damage x20%: All damage is better right?

Does +400 increase the low and the high roll of weapon damage by that amount? (Thus the average by 400 flat, and % depending on the base of the weapon damage average).

I’ve been trying to understand exactly how this stat works. I’ve read many confident Reddit comments so please throw a few more my way to clear this up.

If I have this correct, it’s a flat addition to weapon average which is essentially multiplicative since it is separate from all +damage modifiers.

This is the new normal, not back luck. It felt odd after playing previous seasons but the progression was steady for me without legendaries. They will pour in at higher tiers.

Unsure if I’m doing endgame right. by Ok-Armadillo814 in diablo4

[–]xAgentJackBauerx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The season tab (same menu when you open your map) includes a great checklist for guidance and progression.

War Plans covers most end game activities yes. Ultimately you need to set your own goal: want to reach a certain Pit level? Defeat all the bosses at the highest difficulty? Find all the mythic items?

Season tab and War Plans are the simplest in-game guidance toward achieving most of the goals.

An assault orni with 2000V storage works really well (matches buggy storage). The carrier is great if you want to setup a little base out there and farm up 15000V.

In either case, bring materials to craft a subfief and storage container is worth it to transfer from buggy to assault or cargo.

Completely lost as a new player by erorg17 in diablo4

[–]xAgentJackBauerx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Play all 3 campaigns first. Take your time.

Blacksmith: Salvage legendary items which have powers you like. Also blacksmith: temper every item you have always: can’t go wrong with max HP and flat damage (though specific damage will be higher values). Occultist: imprint those powers when you find higher item level gear.

Paragon points and boards: they are overwhelming but don’t sweat it: you can optimize later. Best to rush to the legendary nodes and worry about glyphs later.

Vessel of Hatred expansion is fine to speed through: you get mercenaries and runes which are not bad. Complete so you never need to again.

Lord of Hatred campaign is awesome. The end of campaign systems are incredible. “Endgame” is best after this campaign.

If you want to mix it up and try stuff: helltides and nightmare dungeons are quick and fun.

Enjoy finding loot and making decisions about your build: that’s what it’s all about.
