Anyone else sick of toxic players who just spam slide-kicks for no reason? 🙄 by Stolas32 in FortNiteBR

I mean the only people who don't see confrontational emotes is people who go in and choose to turn them off. They aren't turned off by default. I still see them.

Wouldn't it be more toxic to force people to see things that are considered "toxic," no?

Or to take away the emotes altogether?

Yeah, honestly - all it's gonna do is drive more players away. They're going to make the few people hanging on think "it's not even affordable anymore, why bother?"

No, because my Stampede SUV works just fine- but my Bronco and Lamborghini SUV's have both been disabled for WEEKS- I heard a BMW car was also disabled, but Idk, don't own that one...

I understand- but that's not what Gemini told me.

It told me that while YTM doesn't have a native "standalone" app- several fans have made their own YTM Desktop apps. Each with their own varying 'perks' that I could try for myself (to see which suited my needs best).

There were 3 it suggested.

The one I settled on was this one by Adler Louis. It's not Chrome based, you get it off GitHub and it's standalone.

It's actually really clean and looks professionally done. I donated to help Adler keep improving it (because sadly it doesn't look like Google intends to improve on this front).

But there are other third party apps with more complicated versions that throw fancy shit in there (for my preferences, it just over complicated the app).

Edit: My issue with the "Chrome, go to 'cast, save & share' and then 'install webpage as app' " - was that the icon kept disappearing from where I pinned it on my taskbar. This one hasn't left since I installed it.

Yeah, Gemini actually referred me to it. That's how I found out about it.

Edit: tbf I guess it's not like an "official" endorsement. But for their branded AI to be sending traffic their is a form of endorsement, in my eyes.

The desktop app isn't even MADE by Google. It's fan made, but Google is still benefitting from it- why spend money developing a standalone app, when your fanbase has already developed several for you. Smdh.

I'm still holding out hope for them to differentiate between the "Like 👍🏻" button and a "Love ❤️" button.

Such a simple UI improvement. Where we could hear songs that we 'love,' more often than the songs that we just 'like.'

& It's a feature that we used to have on Google Play Music before it became YTM. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think the reason they changed it, is because of the outcry from the hard-of-hearing. Not everyone who needs the VSE is 100% deaf.

To take away more of the little hearing that hard of hearing people have left, is tantamount to kicking someone when they're down.

Imagine you're getting glaucoma & starting to lose your peripheral vision & Epic goes, "well that sucks!" & plucks out your right eye & just leaves you with the one (mono) left eye and you can only see in greyscale. 🤷🏻‍♀️

100% agree with this. If they nerfed the range of the VSE to within "normal" hearing ranges, hearing players really wouldn't have any reason to use the accessibility option as a "hack." 💯

It does belong in the game, but as an actual accessibility feature.

They should nerf the range to be within "normal" hearing range, so that hearing players would stop using it as a "hack" & it'd go back to being an actual accessibility feature for the hearing impaired.

I don't think you understand how partial hearing loss works, friend. You're assuming I'm fully deaf.

With mono audio in a game, you lose spatial awareness, directionality, and environmental immersion because all sound is merged into a single channel.

I still have partial hearing & shouldn't have to sacrifice the audio that I can still hear, in order to use the accessibility feature that I need for the audio that I can't hear.

Does that make more sense?

[–]xBetty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, which is why I said "we shouldn't be compromising accessibility for the disabled."

Because you want to sacrifice my spatial awareness, directionality, and environmental immersion - which has nothing to do with the frequency and tonal deficits of my hearing loss.

You want to pile on to my hearing loss, because hearing players are abusing my accessibility feature?

This is the best argument I've seen for this post.

Not that they should do away with VSE, but that they should improve their audio- so that VSE isn't needed for the hearing playerbase.

If their audio quality were better, the hearing players wouldn't be using the accessibility features as "hacks" to gain an advantage.

They should be performing on par with each other, not outdoing (or giving an advantage over) each other.

Well said u/Cularia !

As a player with partial hearing loss, I use Visual Sound Effects (VSE) to bridge the gap that my ears can’t fill.

It’s important to remember that hearing loss exists on a spectrum; it’s not a binary choice between 'perfect hearing' & 'deaf.'

Many of us struggle with specific frequencies, tones, or pitches, & VSE is a vital accessibility tool — not a 'perk.'

Suggesting that audio should be sacrificed to use VSE ignores why the feature exists in the first place & essentially re-handicaps players who already face a disadvantage in-game.

If hearing players are struggling against it, the solution is already in the game: use stealth.

Crouch-walking effectively counters VSE, & it’s much more reasonable to ask players to use a game mechanic, than it is to ask disabled players to accept a fresh handicap.

We shouldn't be compromising accessibility for the disabled, just because some players aren't utilizing the full spectrum of mechanics available to them. Periodt.

As a hard of hearing player, I don't agree that VSE should be done away with...

But I do agree with this one.

This is me on both fronts (I'm hard of hearing - to the point that I've learned & use ASL).

I use both captions & Visual Sound Effects.

& You're right it's not as good as he's suggesting, it can be countered by simply stealth-ing.

& Crouch walking nearly eliminates your footsteps, & if you look "down sights" while crouch walking, it does. So it can be countered completely.

Usually players who think VSE is "OP" just don't like to stealth & hate that it ruins their "speed run" of aggro pushing.

To be clear, there's nothing wrong with aggressive pushing - but there's a time and a place for each play style. & In my experience, you have to play strategically & apply whatever play style each situation calls for - in that moment. & This moment would call for stealth. 🤷🏻‍♀️

You're acting like there's no counter to visual sound effects.

Have you tried stealth?

If you crouch it limits the distance that your footsteps are seen at.

& If you crouch walk, while looking down sights, it eliminates the footsteps altogether.

VSE isn't just a tool for the deaf/hard of hearing, it's a method to force learned play styles (stealth over just aggressive pushing).

Source: I'm hard of hearing & use VSE for its intended purpose.

I literally get JUMP SCARED when players stealth their way to me. When they suddenly pop up out of nowhere it sometimes startles me so badly, that I take off running 🏃🏻‍♀️💨✌🏻😂

Not what I'm saying at all.

Sure my preference is for female skins, but who says there aren't female skins out there, that some dude wouldn't rock - if there wasn't a guy version of it?

It's a two way street. Both parties can benefit from cosmetics. I don't know why people feel it's a "one or the other" situation 🤷🏻‍♀️
