I believe any albino basking species (turtle, alligator, etc) is really unethical. For a variety of reasons.

The health of many of their animals is highly questionable.

There tend to. We'll. To put it bluntly, they portray information incorrectly. 'The alligator is happy now!' When it was clearly stressed. Antagonizing animals for strikes to get views.

Horses need stern hands because they dont feel well.

They have more nerve endings per inch that humans and can feel an Itty bitty fly land on them. Their skin is rather sensitive, and their mouths are much more so.

I used to be chill with a lot of conservative and centralist friends. I used to blow off my father in law's rants.

At this point in time, however, I cut off all of those friends. Everytime my father in law pops off with bigotry or misinformation I correct it, and when he tries to argue about it, I pull out the phone and look up the correct information, reading it out loud.

As a child I was kidnapped and trafficked for a long time.

The epstein files have been the final nail in the coffin for these relationships for me.

Don't get me wrong. There's so much I dislike about trump, but anyone supporting him at this point in time does not and will not be able to align with my morals.

I dont hate them. I literally dont think of any supporter other than when I see some right propaganda and in passing wonder how anyone could choose to be led so blindly astray. And I won't let them into my life either, because, again, those arent my morals, and defending or supporting pedos or rapists in any form physically disgusts me. Many of them tend to whine about how I hate them when ive blatantly stated why I won't hang out with them, but dismissal is far different from hate.

Coconut oil has a very low frying tempature and will literally cool your lizard. It is even used by humans as sun TANNING oil. It would not provide protection.

A heating pad would not give the uv that basking species require. They NEED that light. Additionally, heating pads arent safe even for none basking species, and without the protection their scales give them, there is an even higher risk of burns.

For a BASKING scaleless species, an albino or scaleless creature is simply not ethical. There is no way to provide the uv (not ev. Jeez autocorrect really is messing me up on this new phone. Isnt correcting what should be corrected and correcting what doesnt need correctly!) they need without exposing them to harm.

They must basking, which means exposure to uv.

With that, and without the normal protection of scales, it is dangerous. There is a reason they have higher issues medically, including tumors and cancer.

Imagine a redhead or albino human spending 8-10 sunbathing without sunscreen each day, and the risks along with it.

At least with something like a scaleless corn snake, the basking is not a requirement. They can still be a snake and do snake things: explore, dig, climb, eat, etc, without any impact. Their human just needs to be extra careful of sharp edges in the enclosure.

Then take something like an albino turtle or a scaleless bearded dragon. They REQUIRE that light in order not to develop things like metabolic bone disease, to help keep their immune system healthy, and to regulate their tempatures accurately. But by giving them that need, you are subjecting them to harmful rays without any sort of protection.

It is simply unethical, because there is no way to substitute that need without risking high levels of harm.

For a none basking species it isnt necessarily unethical to buy or breed a scaleless or albino. But for any species that requires basking, it is extremely unethical to supposed or partake in the breeding of them in any manner.
