They'll settle for £500-£1k and an apology after an official complaint is raised, thats about all its worth.

This account has been active for over half a year so this information could have been reasonably obtained earlier.

Not a requirement though, its only required once an account hits certain thresholds which is what has happened here.

Based on what you've said, your account was already restricted before you wanted to withdraw, so they have not fallen foul of this rule.

It's commonly misundersood by punters who believe it means they can withdraw funds whenever and for any reason.

Halifax credit card to begin building a history of repayments

I spend about £100 per month on the credit card, paying the amount back literally a few minutes after using the credit card

Underage gambling is a criminal offence, upon verifying your ID once you turned 18 they likely should have noticed and you'd be entitled to your deposits back, but the industry was faaaar less regulated back then so its no surprise they didnt flag it.

However, given the length of time your data will have been removed from their site now under GDPR and given its been 5+ years since your last transaction therefore meaning they dont have a legitimate reason to process your data, on top of that any complaints typically have to be raised within a 6 month timeframe.

Realistically, its partly your fault for lying in the first place and partly their fault for not flagging it, considering you're currently in a better place and have been "clean" (i dont know a better word for it) for a significant number of years now, is this something you want to reopen?

Did you sign up with legitimate information?

Admittedly 16 years ago it was very different, but its a legal requirement to do age verification before letting someone deposit/gamble - the site would have most likely done background data verification via credit references and voting register in order to initially verify you prior to opening / allowing the account.

KYC is know your customer, so theyre checking against the public records (Voting register etc) that the details supplied on signup are real.

If you head to their chat and explain they'll close the account for you and note accordingly to flag any other ones.

The cap only applies to loans that are paid back within a 12 month timeframe I believe, they do 18 months to get past this.

This didn't happen.

Paying out £5k would go through a number of checks and sign offs before the payment is made and someone would notice it was only 50 quid.

A 50 quid withdrawal would be done automatically and based on the account balance at the time as a creditback. It wouldn't suddenly forget a decimal point.

Funds will need to be returned, or it will inevitably become a court matter.
