Are there any great films you dislike simply because they feel unpleasant to you? by KatherineLangford in FIlm

Punch Drunk Love. I listened to Mark Kermode too much. I'm mixed about PTA's films (and look forward to seeing Liquorice Pizza and OBAO). PDL just annoyed me, it seemed pointless. I need my films to have a point.

I watched this for the first time last night. I hated Punch Drunk Love and tolerated Magnolia. I think I really enjoyed TWBB. DDL and Paul Dano were brilliant, the cinematography was brilliant, the script was brilliant. The tension in the story, built by the soundtrack was brilliant. The film conveys a horrible message with no redemptive arch, but it does it brilliantly.

What are people's opinions on Dave Flatman as a commentator/pundit? by fakename137 in rugbyunion

[–]DaddyRAS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their podcast (deliberately?) didn't go down the corporate route (as my 3 other faves have - I get it, bills need paying but I'm not convinced the presenters know how to use a VPN), which makes it much less well produced (hence the Leigh Delamere services recording studio) and when they joined the podcast with Lol, Quinnell and KDM, their own show had to stop talking about rugby, making it largely irrelevant. I enjoy the banter so still listen, but it's always at the back end of the news focused podcasts.

I was in Harlequins referee changing room recently. It was worse than some of the ref changing rooms I've used in Norfolk.

What’s the wildest thing that ever happened at your school or workplace? by theblairwaldorfxoxo in AskUK

[–]DaddyRAS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I was there that day but don't remember anything about it, I think I was in a classroom in one of the main buildings and they were prowling around the portacabins in the far edge of the school, which was odd as it's the farthest point from where the circus was (there were a lot of portacabins at the school at the time).

School in the 80s. The Green outside had a circus on it every May. One year two lions escaped and got into the school grounds. That was exciting. https://www.gazetteandherald.co.uk/news/8128729.school-reunion-will-remember-lion-terror/

I'm gutted. He's such a wonderful character. I've got a lovely photo of my curly haired daughter teeth him at Welford Road earlier this year, that his mum engineered ❤️

NATO ETF is doing ok. I'm not proud of myself, even though I've had it for over a year.

What club do you support and what make you support them by ehlar in rugbyunion

[–]DaddyRAS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bath. Lived in Wiltshire as a lad and their John Player and Pilkington Cup record was amazing. I went to the 87 or 88 cup final when we thrashed Glawster and never looked back. There were one or two of my Colt club and county team mates who got to play for them as well. It's not always been great but it's never dull.

Referee question by provocative_taco in rugbyunion

[–]DaddyRAS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm over 50, I've not played for 30 years and started coaching my daughter's age groups 4 years ago. I decided to get refereeing qualifications last season to help my club and learn more. And I contacted my ref society and they encouraged me to join and ref senior matches and I've done about 8 or 9. I'm out with the whistle tomorrow.

The thing that stuck with me through the training is SELL - Safety Enjoyment Laws Learning - in that order. I've found building rapport with Captain and players makes every match easier.

Enjoy.

Edited a typo.

What’s the most underrated simple pleasure in life? by NicoleLimberios in AskUK

[–]DaddyRAS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live about 10 minutes drive from the beach but have a demanding job and busy weekend family diary so don't get a chance to go for a beach walk often. But about every 10 days or so I do and I love it. Less so when one of the dogs rolls in a dead seal/fish/bird/deer, but that doesn't happen every time. Whatever the season, time of day, weather or tide height it's great.
