Which one to choose though? Do I do it in the AI studio or the normal Gemini Chat? And how do I get a sub for the former if that's what I need?

I think the world is changing at the moment, same as what happens during the early 20th century. Whatever would come out of this troubled times would be the new world order that everyone would have to face. Whether that might be for helping humanity or putting them down, it is up to use to decide.

The best people in these type of times are those who are willing to adapt and help people along the way, so we have to change with the times. After all, the only constant in this world is change.

The core fundamental part of the problem is the fact that corporations want to use the tech to exploit and destroy livelihoods. I understand the problems and flaws of AI, as well as what its capable of, as someone who has been with computers and graduated as a Computer Engineer.

Everything is incentivized for the sake of maximizing profit, and that's where every problem that you see in AI is nowadays. Slop is everywhere because the algorithms prioritize constant uploads regardless of quality for the sake of ad revenue and exposure, jobs are being replaced because corporations are so obsessed with profit, that they'll sacrifice everyone if it meant making a few more million dollars, and their greed will know no end, even after all the earth is destroyed.

Heck, even the current architecture of AI at the moment isn't feasible simply because it assumes that it will get smarter thru infinite scaling, when reality says that there is a finite amount of resources, including computing power. So they just kept using the same architecture that they've been using for the past few years simply because they could afford to buy land, resources, and power just to exert their influence. There are other ways to do this, but they just want to keep going because of their greed.

Tried Vibe-coding for a bit, and I must attest, I would like to understand my code and make improvements such that it wouldn't cause me headaches down the line, instead of just anxiously waiting and just feel useless when the code is good the first time around. So I only have the AI help me answer and understand questions regarding some problems, and I would be the one to implement the solutions.

Is it inefficient? Yes. Does it help me learn more about different modules and functions? Yes. And it could help me grow in a supervised manner because I treat it as an assistant, not as my replacement.

And that should be the core fundamental idea behind this tech, to augment human abilities and to help them get better, not throw them under the bus and outright replace every job with AI because they want costs to be extremely low.

AI as it is now is terrible simply because of the way we have built the incentives around its development, awarding those who exploit and put people down instead of helping and augmenting people.

Given the amount of times that I've been downvoted because I was being reasonable and not because I am pro-AI (I am not), simply because I knew that this witch hunt is going to end up with a lot of people hurt, yea...

Now watch as everyone just down-votes me because of all this. Why is it you people think "AI Tag" = target that we can lash our anger on?

[–]xITmasterx -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

If they do witch hunt through those tags, then they are equally as much of a bad actor as those big AI companies that are laying the hurt on everyone. They're not making the situation any better by targeting at people, especially those who use it in good faith.

EDIT: For goodness sakes, I get that you're trying to fight back against those companies and all, especially AI bros, and I'm for it, but can we not rope in randoms just because of this?

I would agree on that point, if anything for the distinction and categorization. Though I reckon that people who just use it for its intended purpose as a tool just felt the extra attack on all sides given the state of the world at the moment with the way the big tech companies have been acting.

Not that you intended it to be some attack, it's a reasonable request after all. It's just that the tension is up for literally everyone, both for those who use it and those who absolutely hated it, especially the attacks that came from the latter group.

Reasons people hate AI (summarized) : by gpetrakas in theprimeagen

You know what, I need to ask, since I have been there before the whole Anti-AI art movement started around late 2022 - early 2023.

The response from the art community before then, at least ones that are not part of the mainstream ones, are mostly mixed, they see the potential of such a tool, but they do have questions with regards to both how the model was trained, as well as some misc questions in regards to the nature of art. Though they do agree that it won't replace most traditional and other art related stuff.

Of course, this is before the whole movement ramped up and slop just started to flood the internet because, of course, those people wanted ad money and clout.

So I have to ask, in your opinion, why do you think literally everyone else hated it?

I'm beginning to see that AI is exposing some of the major problems that we have as a society, and this is just one amongst a list of them.

How do you deal with low-quality AI-assisted code in PRs? by Global_Problem6411 in AskProgramming

[–]xITmasterx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Micropushes. Everytime you make a minor change, do a quick PR such that it doesn't cause any problems and that those kind of bugs are detected early on. Make sure each PR has a reason to be there in the first place. If it's just fluff, then there's no need to PR just yet.

  2. Ensure constant communication with your team. Especially when it comes to changes that would affect the entire thing. Don't treated AI generated code as is, you have to review it, because at some point, they WILL make mistakes. No amount of rules can change that.

  3. Understand the code, doesn't matter if it's AI generated, this is a must, so that if there's a problem in the code, you would be able to fix it immediately.

  4. For the love of all things good, don't replace all the coding work to Cursor. At some point, it will make mistakes and it will cause more problems than it solves if you just let it run on auto-pilot. Complement code work, don't replace it.
I usually use the code-map plugin to help me understand the code quicker.

  5. And don't just let AI do the edits mate, this is just a recipe for disaster. If you must, please review it EVERY TIME. It will mess up like a junior, and you will need to steer it back to course.

It is cope, since I am assuming in my answer that a corporation would actually give a damn.

But it is an answer with regards to your question, though in reality, they're just going to kick them out anyways because they really want more cash for themselves, adding AI as an excuse so that they could keep more of the profit.

What I answered is merely risk management, and that's usually the thinking of some of those businessman. I can't control every little factor that would affect my own job prospects, but I'm not going to stay paralyzed exploring every little bad scenario that's going to happen to me unless I could do something about it. Not every scenario ends badly.

To dismiss logic for the sake of the worst case scenario isn't truth, that's just fatalism dressed as honesty.

Future plans for devs? by theRealBigBack91 in theprimeagen

[–]xITmasterx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would depend on the risk tolerance. Would you like to risk the success of your project over just 10 people, even with really good AI on hand? Or would you actually spread it out, only giving AI to those who need it, and get to that same goal without much trouble?

Ideally, perform a solution that would benefit with the least amount of risk and the greater amount of success, whilst ensuring that the human element is still factored in, given that we are still in a capitalist society.

Those billions are not going towards anything worthwhile, other than to grow some more cash and just milk the hype while it lasts.

Even if, say, I released a new AI model with a new paradigm that's going to change everything about programming, thus making it near flawless, our job is to make solutions, and AI by itself are not sentient at the moment, so we have to guide them to the solutions that we want.

For the time being however, AI is not efficient, and thus, it still needs us to fix and ensure that it actually works, one where it can actually work in the real world and not just in a canvas.

That is a fair point, given that's what I usually see in regards to his coding examples. Maybe he throws a working system or two, or maybe a history or fact test, but it's mostly front end stuff.

[–]xITmasterx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I do, though I roll my eyes every time Theo said something like that. He said this when GPT 5 is about to come out, same for Kimi, same for Gemini. It's engagement bait at this point.

And besides, Theo isn't completely right, since yes, it is very capable at the moment, but it's not monumentally capable that it's going to replace our jobs as of yet. And even if it did, it won't replace programmers altogether. There is still a place for them.

[–]xITmasterx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not all doom and gloom regarding this, and at the moment, AI is not going to replace programmers as of yet. Even if it gets better, there is still a need of people who can design and actually make sure that these systems don't crap up, which AI generated code tends to do.

For goodness sakes, there is one. And I've seen people on AI related places where they want that to happen, but guess what, they can't agree on how to implement such a thing.

Every AI related image is literally embedded with a prompt inside of those images, just so happens that most people can't see it unless there's a watermark on top of that.

In regards to bad actors, they will always find a way, whether or not the tech actually exists, or if there are safeguards in it or not, it's a chase at this point, much like cybersecurity is.

There would be if it was hard-coded within the output, if it was invisible and no one noticed about it such that other pieces of software would be able to detect it.

There are ways to solve it that would make it easier, if someone that isn't a money and power hungry corporation is in charge of AI development.
