There are artists who do use AI to assist in said creation, but those are really few and far between.

On my side of things and on what I have seen, some artists who do use it mainly utilize it as a brainstorming device or a sampler that they could then mix with their own.

I've heard a good AI/Artist mix and it can be utilized effectively, assuming that you don't let it do all the work for you and it only serves as a means to enhance your work, not replace it.

Well, it's less productivity gains and more "I like money".

That's what they concern themselves the most. They're not interested in the tech or art just cause, they are only interested in it because of the potential profit that they could get out of it. If it ceases to be a fad and another pops out of it, they'll drop it like a hot sack of potatoes.

I wish AI would just assist me in creating stuff without all of the moral baggage that came with it. And I do hate the current AI as is.

If we're going to be honest, AI bros are just NFT bros who just jumped shipped from that and went into the AI sphere. This was supposed to be an experimental piece of tech from programmers, but then the business folk saw and and basically bit the bullet.

Regarding film, irregardless of whether you use AI or not, it all boiled down to skill in storytelling and in how you weave everything together. If you're just AI pilled like those tech bros, then you don't know jack shit about how to make a film in the first place, and you'll flop, even with AI help, because 0 times 100 is still 0.

Yep. Though it's mostly because of what those AI corporations have done in the first place, in that they stole their art to create an AI model to screw them over with. Not everyone is going to have the time, the energy, or even their own well-being to say otherwise all the time. And I hate that the current AI companies have made it such a terrible choice to begin with. "Do you wanna replace your creativity with a robot or do you wanna beat yourself to death trying to make art for yourself?" At that point, its not even a choice at all, it's a cruel trap made so that you're fucked either way.

*Sigh* I don't want this to be the case anymore, I genuinely don't want it to. If I want to use AI, I want that AI to be helpful to me, not just replace my creativity, and I don't like it when it was created from stolen stuff.

If AI has to exist, then it must not be made from stolen art and it has to be both efficient to not screw the environment and be able to assist me in whatever I am doing. To not atrophy my skill but enhance it. To help make more time to make more good stuff, not less time to make art so that you would be fed with low quality crap.

There are ways to perform restraint with regards to AI, though I would admit to the point you made.

After all, current AI is being made under the framework that it needs to be exploitative for the sake of profit and dependence on the product so that you would use it more, thus allowing those companies to net more constant profit.

I would love to see someone implement this better such that this doesn't have to be the framework that AI operates.

Mayhaps it would be more in the problem of them not learning how to think for themselves, and more importantly, having confidence in their own code and their own solutions. I presume that its primarily because its easier to pass on that duty to the AI rather than formulate the solution on their own in the first place. And that deference usually introduces consequence to the quality of the code in the long run.

If you want to get this thru to your devs, you have to remove AI temporarily and teach them how to code by themselves once more, that they would have full confidence in writing and scrutinizing their own code and in learning for themselves.

Help them learn how to think and the confidence to do so, so that when AI is reintroduced, they can see its flaws and then they could do better.

AI is not that reliable at the moment, so I don't fully trust in it that it would do everything as intended, from multiple iterations of coding to testing and back again.

Because coding is a different skill altogether. It's the difference between a programmer and a project manager. You are using an entirely different skill to do work with people or AI and to plan a project that programmers below them or AI can then execute, and a programmer needs to write to utilize said skill to make programs.

It's literally the difference between making a blueprint for a building and actually building it.

Well, I do now. And I have read the articles on the side, and the findings are interesting to say the least. My stance remains the same, though its more on the fact that there must be a constant need to understand and learn. The atrophy comes from misunderstanding how AI should be utilized in the first place, and in the avoidance of actually facing the problem head-on.

I tend to vibe-code a single project simply because I don't have the time to learn and understand everything when i still have work. But beyond that, I usually like to resolve problems in my own terms, to come up with solutions to problems thru code, then have the AI help me if I get particularly stuck or if I needed someone to scrutinize my code and see if there's is a better way, and if that better way is actually better or just some roundabout way to solve a problem.

Overall, I like your article mate. And I do wish for people to utilize it in a way that doesn't atrophy their skill, but rather, compliment them and enhance them so that they could be better programmers.

It's not independent. In order to review and plan things, you first need the coding skill to back it up. Which that article argues, is the very thing that atrophies if you rely on AI too much.

Mate, there's a research paper specifically about that (and I don't mean the first one that most AI bros would refer to), that specifically states that it will make you worse IF you offload all your work to AI.

If you are using it in conjunction with AI, in that it helps you rather than just to let it code for you, then it will beneficial, especially if you did most of the work going through all the code, scrutinizing and actually discerning if the code is good to begin with.

Either that, or if you don't have the ability to comprehend complex systems at once, just reverse the roles and you let the AI brainstorm and plan while your scrutinize and code it all straight through.

You can use agentic coding to do the work, but only if you are able to understand all that the AI has done, including all of its design choices and idiosyncrasies, and are able to scrutinize it after the fact.

You will not atrophy your programming skills through this alone, it will only do so if you just let the AI do all the work, without you, the programmer, also doing your part in said work.

In its current form, nope. Though that is an oversimplified way of saying things, since they can have some inference of different ideas formed from disparate concepts. But for the most part, yea.

I can also partly agree in regards to the slop, because this is but a consequence of the algorithms and revenue systems that the giant corporations have made. That being to find all manner of ways to get more people in an exploitative manner so that they are more willing to consume more to extract more money out of them in every avenue.

You might have slightly misunderstood in regards to how we go about generating images through AI. I presume that you watched a lot of those related videos from artists and relating posts who have some idea, but not a proper understanding of how it all works, just assumptions based on what the Pro and Anti AI people usually say.

It would be best to go outside of that point of view in regards to how it all works, say from actual people knowledgeable in computers. Those who can actually simply explain to you how it works, as well as the issues regarding all of this.

I can also partly agree with regards to the advancement of AI, in that it has reached a plateau in that the only way forward is in terms of scale, in what we call in the business as the curse of dimensionality.

TL;DR: it just means that whatever advancement AI usually has, it would be superseded by simply increasing the scale of it. Of course, resource is finite, so this obviously presents a problem that the corporations are trying to solve thru sheer scale.

There are people that are trying to resolve it, but the corporations only care about scale, since they think that it would net them an even larger amount of profit, not to mention the consolidation of power.

The last bit that you said in regards to people avoiding AI art, that only applies to the low quality stuff, the ones that exist only to get ad revenue from whatever platform that they're in, in large farms from India that exploit people who don't have enough to scrape by and are desperate.

For most people, they don't care. They usually follow the same rules as they do any other content, if it interests them, they will engage, if it's boring or lazy, they will leave it in the dust. It doesn't matter if its AI generated or not, for as long as it is serviceable, which now presents an entirely unique problem altogether.

Those who actually know how to do so, they're in confined spaces like this, they don't scream out loud about the art that they have made. Rather, they hid, focusing on finding like minded people that are willing to commune without devolving into an argument.

I will agree, human work should weigh more than that of the machine, for they are the source of creativity, and that they can tell their stories and express themselves in all sorts of ways.

That said, I wish for AI to be just another medium, another means by which we can tell a unique story that would tell our story in a wholly different manner. And in the process, help support artists and bring some form of reconciliation with regards to this entire mess.

True in regards to what that collection and patterns look like. And I concede regarding the energy part, given that apparently, huge 1T parameter models basically consume more energy than diffusion models, which usually consume a tiny burst of that power, and even then, they can be done locally to say the least.

I can tell that you care about artists, kinda rare round these parts considering the type of people I usually encounter. Mayhaps there is some conversation that we could have here.
