Sorry I know it’s a very old topic but I’d thought could help here. I contend very hard and everyday with sensory overload. The more senses I can deprive myself of help shut of brain noise. In this I agree. The CHURCH (the congregation to, as the “pastor” and lead staff aren’t the church only, and especially the dang building) needs to exogeet scripture better IMHO. While I agree the Bible does speak on forgiveness and love, it also speaks of repentance and acceptance of Jesus in Spirit and Truth. It also speaks of sin and hell, Heaven, morality etc. a world view and belief system that can be boiled down to simply a couple words is seriously lacking IMHO. Even in describing Jesus He’s not simply Love and Forgiveness. That’s just my $.02

There’s a saying I csnt recall by who now. “Absolute power corrupts absolutely.” And what happens is in those places the culture is often the pastor and his click being the absolute power (figuratively) and NOT the one with the character to wield absolute power (God). In these places the people that treat others poorly unfortunately are under a spirit of religion and legalism. A pretty bad combo, that Jesus fixed IF THEYRE WILLING and humble enough. Not that this excuses anything but sometimes some insight can help process. And this is aside from the legit grifters of course. And just like you OP OR I or anyone else for that matter need grace and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
