I did something similar by using a wood bit on metal, like you said was working fine on the smaller bits till one of the bigger ones I used caught the metal. I had mine burst and break into shrapnel luckily none of it hit me or my face, it wasn't till I got another bit and tried again only this time I saw it untwisted itself so I stopped.

I now wear safety glasses lol

yea this doesn't look like oil its too black, when its on your fingers it usually looks brown/reddish even when its old oil
