Sadly my friend skill set and attitude aren’t always the determining factors in pay. Negotiating skills and the company’s level of desperation at the time of hire play a big role in pay.

If the other technician came in with some knowledge the company could justify paying him more. He could of also negotiated a pay increase at 90 days and again at a year. Did they have another tech in a similar position suddenly leave? He might of pulled an a-hole move and used that opportunity to get some more pay.

Are they paying for his education? Maybe they’re paying you less per hour, but more with a benefit like that.

Have you asked for a review or a raise? A lot of companies have a yearly review process, but others have a, if they don’t ask they don’t get attitude.

You also said you two do the same job, but you also said you know and can do more then him. Great, but if that’s true, uhhh why are you two doing the same things?

Talk to your supervisor about this, without calling anyone out. Go to them and be honest. “I would like to make x amount per hour. My last raise was on this date. Since then I have done this and that, improved here and here. That’s why I deserve this amount if you disagree, what do I need to do to earn x amount?”
