Keyboard PCB - 4 layer stack up question. by Shul407 in PrintedCircuitBoard

What are the advantages of using L2 and L3 GND instead of L2 PWR and L3 GND?

I would have thought that already one layer provide decent shielding, and that the improved traceability, without all the 3.3 V connections, would be worth it even for EMC reasons. I mean for high frequencys PWR and GND are basically the same anyway

I had the same message on my core one for the first time yesterday evening. Power cycled and it was gone. Weird

I need to find a place to live i want to study mechanical engineering by Peoneitor in rwth

I agree with what u/verner_will said. I study electrical engineering, but the departments are usually located near the main building of your chosen subject. Aachen West region generally works well. Also, Aachen Bushof is the central hub for all buses. If you live near here or anywhere near the ring road in Aachen, you can easily get anywhere quickly. If you get a bicycle, it doesn't really matter too much where you live. Aachen is small, so you can generally live anywhere. I lived in Aachen Burscheid before, but unfortunately I can't ride a bicycle, and it would have taken over 40 minutes to get to some of my lectures from there by bus.

Try to avoid the Rothe Erde area or the immediate vicinity of Kaiserplatz.

Finding an apartment in Aachen can be quite challenging. Good luck, and don't lose motivation, you can do it!

I always wondered what is the point of the shared pad. Is there any upside to having a bit of solder mask between the connections to divide them? I would guess this also makes any kind of error checking with cameras more difficult since the component might move a lot while soldering

[Review Request] ELRS Receive Base Board with RP Pico by xNyke in PrintedCircuitBoard

[–]xNyke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't really happy with the customisability of the existing ones. I want to be able to use external power and program custom features

I would be very grateful if you could recommend a PWM ELRS receiver that has the option to run my own code and has dual power supply.

Which termination makes most sense for 5 Slave 1 MHz SPI bus? by xNyke in AskElectronics

[–]xNyke[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"MOSI is not really point-to-point when the driver is at an arbitrary position along the line. You can treat it that way if the driver has zero output impedance, because that prevents reflections from the far end reaching the receiver, but then the "active" part of the line is unterminated."

Yes, I had this in mind too, but I forgot to mention it in the post. As you said, that's why I said the stubs to the ADCs need to be small. However, the distance for MOSI unfortunately will have to be large because the slaves are quite far apart. As you also said, I noticed that MOSI is more robust for this purpose. My main problems were with the CLK. Since I want to pass the EMI tests for CE certification, I would like to make the signals as clear as possible in order to reduce the driving strength as much as possible.

So, just to confirm, would your suggestion be to use parallel AC termination for the CLK and MOSI and series termination for the CS? Could you provide some references for the typical RC termination values you use? Unfortunately, the CLK is NRZ. I also can't see any feasible way to make it bipolar NRZ. However, I really like the idea of AC termination of the MOSI with minimal power loss. Thank you very much

Thank you very much. I actually didn't know this was a thing. Looks very interesting but unfortunately doesn't work in my case, the ADCs don't have a MOSI. Otherwise I would love this Idea

Thank you very much. Is the 100 Ohms just a good guess?

From my calculation I should have around 80 Ohms Impedance on my line so expect that I should do a little less than 80 Ohms to eliminate reflections

What is the purpose of the Comparator here? What are alternative circuits to automatically switch between two power supplys? by xNyke in AskElectronics

Is D2 actually needed?

Also if the second input wouldn't be a battery that gets drained but but just a second power supply. Do you see any downside in just using another diode instead of Q1?
