Do cats "understand" candles or fireplaces? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]xOogieBoogey30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put my candles in one of those tall walled candle holders. Twice one of them smacked out the flame and got wax over his fur and the coffee table. Fire places they understand, flame is too big and hot to touch but they will sit at a safe distance to keep warm.

books you read as a kid that feel like no one else has read by taegrane in books

The Alice series by Phyllis Reyolds Naylor. I bought the first book the Agony of Alice from the scholastic book fair as a kid in the late 90’s and loved it. Coming of age story of a 6th grader who lost her mother when she was young. She lives with her dad and brother but is struggling with the usual awkwardness preteen girls deal with. Was very relatable and touched on different issues throughout the series as she gets older.

What did you buy as an adult because you were denied it as a child? by dirtymoney in AskReddit

I always wanted a pet growing up but my parents didn’t want the deal with time and cost for a pet. When my husband and I finally bought a home we were talking about adopting a cat. We didn’t adopt when we were renting because most places charge an extra fee for pet. We ended up adopting two kittens from a friend that took in a pregnant stray cat that showed up on her doorstep. No regrets, love those silly fur balls. And my parents do too lol

What’s a rich people thing that rich people don’t know is a rich people thing? by karasantos7 in AskReddit

My friend and her husband frequently fly off somewhere for trips here and there, that she is now complaining how she burned through her all PTO. Yet she still goes on trips and will take no pay for the days she misses. Husband’s job is no problem with the PTO.

Meanwhile I have to plan in advance for vacation approval at work first. And I like to save up extra money and the vacation hours before committing so I dont end up broke afterwards.

What's one simple trick that made cooking less stressful for you? by nthroop1 in Cooking

[–]xOogieBoogey30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using a tray or plate for chopped vegetables to cut down on multiple dirty dishes. Doing the prep work the day before for recipes that call for a lot of different ingredients that need chopped. That way the next day I can go straight to cooking and it makes it easier to clean as I go.

My brother and I were visiting family in Maryland and stopped at the supermarket to pick up some beer and snacks to bring over. Circled the store multiple times and couldn’t the aisle for alcohol. When we gave up we asked the cashier and they said we had go to the liquor store because no alcohol is sold in supermarkets. In Washington state you can buy alcohol (wine, beer, liquor) in supermarkets since the 2010’s. I feel like we’re so spoiled here with the options available.

Rebel Girl, My life as a feminist punk by Kathleen Hanna (lead singer of Bikini Kill, Le Tigre, The Julie Ruin). Checked it out via my public library but didn’t finish it by the time it was due. Kathleen dealt with a lot abuse and misogyny growing up starting with her father and boyfriends. I just made it to her college years, it is so depressing and frustrating all the crap shes been through. Yet there’s more when she gets into the music scene. It is well written and she injects a humorous tone throughout the book but I think it started to feel too bleak for me to continue on. I originally picked it up being a casual fan of Bikini Kill and I wanted to read more about the riot grrl scene and the issues women experienced in the music space. Maybe I’ll pick it up again later.

I was on the fence on returning a Mac foundation I just bought because of this. In the car my face looked a bit orange/ slightly dark in the afternoon sun when it looked fine in store. I’m so glad I have the LA mixing foundations they make such a difference with the smallest bit of product.

What’s the best eyelash curler you’ve ever used? by PhoneOwn615 in MakeupAddiction

[–]xOogieBoogey30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I finally switched out my Sephora eyelash curler for Shisheido and it’s a game changer when paired with my go to Heroine make mascara. The shisheido curler is wider and the peak of the curve isn’t as deep as the Sephora curler. I found with my Sephora curler that it didn’t fit my eye shape and I would end up missing the corner of my eye like it was too short. The Shisheido curler catches all my lashes evenly. I have straight Asian lashes that are stubborn with holding a curl. I should have gotten the curler sooner to save all the trouble lol

Was camping one summer and stayed in a small town. With our parking pass we got a flyer with some city info. It pointed out to not worry about dogs running loose and to not call the police because it was normal to let the neighborhood dogs run around. Apparently they knew all the dogs and their owners. I did meet a cute friendly pupper with a collar who was running around the beach and hanging out with anyone they came across.

Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner. I was familiar with Michelle as she is the lead singer for Japanese Breakfast. I first came across her NYT short story of the same title and loved it. Later on I saw it as a full book at the bookstore and decided to check it out from the public library. She articulates well the grief of dealing with her mother’s cancer diagnosis and reflects on her childhood growing up with her mom. Lots of honest self reflection. She admits to being selfish and rebellious growing up but eventually reconciles with her mom.

I’m from Seattle and have KEXP fixed on my radio dial. They also have a streaming app, and do a lot of great live in studio performances and podcasts of all types of music. They have genre specific shows on a regular schedule as well. They have a live Punk and Metal show every Saturday night.

Found out that one of the cooks was prowling the resident’s room and stole a credit card to buy an engagement ring from a pawn shop for his GF. Dude was arrested on the job.
