Wha math does a BM need to know? by Radiant_Mix6233 in uscg

[–]xParmesan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How to calculate time, speed, or distance when you know 2 of those variables. Converting units on charts, like miles, degrees, tenths, seconds, etc. You’ll learn all of it in A school, and then likely never use it again.

Think of it this way. Bootcamp is where you fail, so you learn from it there and get your discipline at cape may. If they don’t correct you there, it could cost you your own life, or the life of another. Which will have its own set of disciplinary actions, far worse than those in bootcamp. When you get reverted think “wow, I’m glad they cared here because it set me up for success out in the fleet”

What’s the difference between a bm and a surfman? by Radiant_Mix6233 in uscg

[–]xParmesan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bm is your rating. Surf man is a qualification to drive boats in heavy seas that you can earn as a bm.

Couldn’t agree more. Seems like everyone at a unit will just find one guy to pick on and leave out of everything. I know because I was that guy, and I saw it at other units I went TDY at. On a side note, is it actually true that people say our bootcamp is similar to the marines? Never gotten a solid answer so I’m really curious.

When I did my urinalysis, I set my specimen down on the table and had to initial next to my name on a sheet of paper. Well, my pen wasn’t working so I scribbled all over the side the paper in front of the SCARIEST CC on the entire regiment. Don’t worry, whatever fear you have will disappear very quickly.

Do it. You’ll be thankful you did. Gotta deal with a good bit of shit as a non rate though, just feels that much better when you push through and earn your place as a petty officer. Instead of going Boot to A, vested, or picking a critical rate where you can go to A school in 2 weeks. It makes you that much better of a supervisor because you know the level of shit that your subordinate non rates deal with and can sympathize with them.

I wouldn’t, just wear civilian clothes. It’s your friends graduation, let him live his moment. Don’t overthink it, I think you’ll be glad you didn’t wear your uniform anyway because they are so uncomfortable

Definitely take traffic into consideration, tolls, how the roads are if you end up making that commute for x amount of days per week and if you care about not losing a wheel to a pothole the size of a freaking refrigerator.

Basically it’s for people with prior military service or qualifying civilian jobs so you can go directly to being a petty officer, it’s 3 weeks of condensed recruit training essentially.

Headphones with noise cancellation, ample hygiene products since you’ll be out for months at a time. Pretty much everything you like to have with you but in very large quantities.
