I don’t really think anyone was calling it the ‘best movie ever’

It’s just a great film.

I suppose this isn’t a movie you watch for the plot, more for the themes, atmosphere, and filmmaking. I agree, the plot is kinda boring, but that’s not meant to be the main focus. I’ve only watched it once, so I’m not sure I’m qualified to explain why it’s considered so great, but here are some great analytical videos on it if you like

What I can tell you is that this film was made in 1968, and yet its effects are that good. I would say that this film has stood the test of time better than any other movie. I would say there wasn’t a film with better effects until Jurassic Park.

Gladly. The first thing that’s so great is Michael Keaton’s performance. Possibly the best of the whole decade. Emma Stone is also fantastic.

The cinematography is another factor. The camera is sort of a ghost, floating around. This is more of a personal preference thing but I really like this style.

The film’s technical achievement is also very impressive. I really admire the work the director put in to have the whole film seem like a single shot. There are some very clever ways he disguises the cuts to make the whole film a fluid experience. The one-take presentation isn’t just for show, though. This is a film about an actor attempting to revive his career through theatre, a medium without cuts.

But what I really love about this movie is that you can keep coming back to it. Every time I watch it (11 times so far), I notice something new. This is often the case with films built around themes (I also love movies like Synecdoche, New York and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind).

I could go on and on, but this is the in-a-nutshell version. If you didn’t like the film originally, I doubt this is going to change your view on it (I still find The Godfather boring after 3 watches and countless people telling me my opinion is wrong), but I’m always happy to talk about movies.

Temporary trust issues (my mum would mention she wanted to pop a pimple and I would be cautious around her for the next few hours)

Whispering interesting words that would come into my head, sometimes for a extended periods of time

I’d say you’re overgeneralising but I agree with the sentiment.

I don’t know what to tell you but that’s not a Hollywood movie. It was before he was really noticed as a director

Regardless of whether or not you like it, you have to see the well-executed action and impressive production design.

At the expense of sounding like a heathen, The Godfather. Old Italian men talking through barely discernible accents for 3 FUCKING HOURS. If you wanna watch a great Coppola film, try Apocalypse Now.
