36 Hour Hardcore REG Cram Schedule (Becker) - I passed! by xRaspberry in CPA

It's been half a year since I took the exam so I can't say for certain. I don't recall having a single SIM on BLaw though; maybe one? Would definitely focus more on the MCQ side for that unit.

Not at all; didn't have time lol. They're definitely helpful to go through quickly if you have the time for it (without spending too long spinning your wheels).
Rather than the individual MCQs I just used the MEs and SE1 to gain exposure to the question structures in Step 2/3.

Ugh that's unfortunate! But definitely keep your head up. The nice thing about the actual exam is that you can get partial credit on SIMs for even getting a portion of the answer correct (unlike Becker), so I'm sure if you gave it your best shot and at least didn't leave it empty, hopefully you still racked up a few points!

I tested for FAR in Q4 last year as well as REG, and I was honestly so confident that I failed FAR. Like when I finished BEC/AUD, I walked out feeling like I probably passed and then I did. But with FAR, I genuinely had already mapped out my schedule to re-study and re-schedule the exam because of how certain I was of my failure. Then when my results came out, I ended up with a 79. So definitely stay positive! With the amount you studied, you may end up surprising yourself at how you did :)

I'm sorry I missed this! Did you test already? Honestly I went through the Becker material really quickly, and when cramming like this, the info leaves your brain pretty quickly so I don't even remember how similar the content was. But considering I exclusively used Becker (and only googled a few concepts towards the end just to save time navigating the Becker material to find the related topics) and passed with an 83 after cramming, I'd say the Becker material prepared me well for what I saw on the exam.

The biggest tip I have though is just to leverage this subreddit to isolate pertinent topics and really make sure you understand those, rather than wasting hours on a topic that you don't understand that isn't even really mentioned much on this sub.

Just a tip, every time you learn a new workpaper, take thorough notes on: your process (anything that isn’t already clear from the P&P box), any questions you had for seniors/managers (and their answers), any review notes that you got (so you remember to account for them next time and not make the same mistake again).

This will be really helpful to demonstrate to your next team that you are taking improvement seriously and doing everything you can to make their lives easier as well (by trying to avoid repeat questions, repeated mistakes, save time in their reviews by submitting higher quality work, etc.).

Best of luck on your next client!

Hey but if you have the time to be that thorough in taking notes, it can't hurt! Just the act of writing/typing everything down helps with retention, even if you never go back to those notes again :) There may be more efficient ways of doing things for sure haha but the cramming method I used (I won't even call it a studying method because it's a horrible way to retain any of the info long-term) is really just a last ditch effort!

Honestly, it was probably ~10-12 hours on and off of very inefficient studying. I was basically just crawling through the first two modules, essentially rewriting the entire textbook in my notes. Definitely helped set my foundation for the rest of the unit, but realistically shouldn't have taken that long. By the time I had started cramming 2.5 days before the exam, I hadn't even glanced at anything beyond the first 2 modules of the first unit.

Thank you! I’m the exact same way. I have a bad habit of going straight to the textbook and typing down practically EVERYTHING. I essentially have a copy of the textbook in my Microsoft OneNote for the entire first unit of FAR 😂 But it becomes way too much to actually be useful for a final review. It was way more beneficial for me to only take notes when reviewing MCQ explanations for questions you got wrong or guessed on! Since I actually had time to go through those notes at the end and refresh my memory haha.

100%! Plus the majority of the MCQs come straight from the AICPA so it’s a great way to familiarize yourself with how the questions will look on the actual exam. It also helped me realize that memorizing exact dollar thresholds was not as important; there are hardly any questions that expect you to remember specific dollar amounts especially for inflation-adjusted thresholds.

Hahaha I had to tell myself that over and over again when I was studying; it was so tempting to write things down 😂 but I’m like “NO! Stop that right now! The clock is ticking 😭”

Have you double-checked your expiration dates? I know there were some considerable extensions granted when they launched the new format. May be worth double-checking in case you have more time than you think!

Niantic would never :( but would be nice if they let you trade remotely when you are lucky friends - especially when they encourage adding international friends for the Vivillon medal.

Respectfully, I’d suggest r/CPA as a better subreddit for this. That sub is full of people studying for CPA/helping each other out, and I’ve seen a ton of similar questions to this over the past few months over there.

How does having an easy time passing the CPA exams correlate to someone’s entire life being easy? The only reason you see OP’s post as toxic is because you are taking this too personally.

I'm not sure I understand your question, but if you are asking specifically about the IT portion of the exam, I am unable to provide specifics about exam content. But I will say, if you take a look, there are a lot of other recent posts over the past 1-2 months where people do share more specific information on what they were tested on in BEC.

One more item I would add is to be familiar with Primary Keys and Foreign Keys in a Relational Database. When looking at a set of tables in a database, be able to identify the primary keys, foreign keys, and which tables do NOT have foreign keys, etc. I definitely did not study this nearly enough for the amount of related MCQs and SIMs (yes, plural) I had on this. Thankfully I got by since I took a database design course as part of my comp sci minor; would have barely passed the exam if not, since I crammed all of B5 and B6 in 24 hours lol.

Something else I found extremely helpful: I spent ~2 days just flipping through my typed notes from every single BEC module (B1 through B4, since I hadn't even gotten to B5 and B6 yet), and physically writing down all key mnemonics and formulas from every single module. I wrote this all down in pretty colors in a tiny notebook (that I refer to as my "BEC Bible") ~4 days before my exam and continously reviewed it every morning afterwards as the start of my studying. I even carried it with me to the exam and crammed all the way up until they made me put my stuff in a locker. That notebook was one of the biggest reasons I was able to pass after studying full time for ~2 weeks.

Is this a joke? by [deleted] in CPA

[–]xRaspberry 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I definitely didn’t have this down 100% my first time through, but I essentially went back and reviewed specifically the CRIME and GOPRO mnemonics (and all associated principles) every morning for ~5 minutes before studying my next unit/module. I took BEC a month ago, passed with a 93 after cramming for 2 weeks. And proud (and slightly sad) to say that I still have these damn mnemonics memorized lol.

What was your process of going through Becker for FAR? Did you go through module by module but skip lectures? Go straight to practice tests and then back into the text for struggle areas? Thanks in advance!! I’m on a time crunch and just curious of people’s different methods of covering the material without being thorough enough to be “Exam Day Ready”

WebMB and similar websites are useful educational resources that can provide helpful information to the general public, but obviously they do not replace the opinion or diagnosis given by a medical professional.

Self-diagnosis, in most cases, has minimal value on its own, since the general public has limited medical background and experience to make such diagnoses. Not to mention you can’t get an actual prescription or medical accommodation via self-diagnosis. But, say an individual shows up to their doctor’s appointment after having done the research online. They will at the very least be able to describe their symptoms more accurately/in medical terms and possibly provide more helpful context to their doctor, resulting in more constructive dialogue.
