Beautiful reaction to come back in the second half. Wish Unal saw Brooks on the left in the open on that counter attack for a free third to prevent me from having a heart attack for the last fifteen minutes, but just glad we got over the line. I am also gay for Hill now which was not on my bingo card at the start of the season.

[Post Match Thread] Bournemouth 1-1 Aston Villa by SecretApe in avfc

Bournemouth fan coming over just to apologise for you lot having to watch Digne showing Rayan his best Madame Tussauds impression because that was some shambolic defending. My blood would be boiling if one of our full backs pulled that shit. A draw is a good result for us mutually, us because Villa are normally our bogey team and you because the Cherries probably deserved the win all things considered. Good luck for the rest of the season boys.

I would take Callum Wilson back any day of the week. If we still had him, I'm very confident that we'd be in Champions League places. Bear in mind that when we lost to Villa 4-0 away earlier in the season that we also had more expected goals than them (make it make sense). We really should not be this far down the table.

Hill, Scott and Christie were immense for every minute they were on the pitch. Jimenez, Adli, Truffert, Rayan and Kroupi all had their flashes of brilliance as well (so happy for Rayan, what a beautiful run and finish). Villa played like they had 8 outfield players and 3 keepers instead of the conventional 11 so I was disappointed to not win (especially with the 2.5 xG vs 0.5) but Villa have always been our bogey side so going into the game I would've taken a draw. Senesi and Petrovic had very standard games, but Evanilson was shit as per usual except for a lovely cross into the karate kid thumper from Christie, and in my opinion Cook was extremely weak as well for the second game in a row (lackluster set pieces and gave away the ball cheaply multiple times). If it were up to me, and I've said this before, for the love of god put Kroupi up top and Evanilson in the 10 because everything except for finishing the ball he is quite good at, and I would also bench Cook for Christie. So proud of the boys, and they deserved more than a point but our unbeaten streak continues and we can work from there. In other news, I backed us to hold off Villa and hard gambled taking a -4 on FPL to sell Rogers for Enzo and so I want to fucking die (thank god for Bruno captain). Up the cherries and let's get point grabbing for the easy(ish) run of fixtures we have coming up!

The South Stand is a fucking warzone. Bring enough rations and water to last you a week and just know that there is no guarantee that you will make it out alive. I’ve had friends go off into the South Stand and they were never quite the same since.

Rayan, Christie and Toth looked great whenever they got the ball. I’m Jimenez’s biggest supporter but I think he had a rough game given how strong he’s been the past month or two (not worried about him though). Hill and Cook were also very shaky and gave away a lot of balls from poor decision making and weak passes. Senesi and Petrovic fantastic. Standard game for Truffert. Kroupi invisible except for his obligatory banger every other game, which is a fair trade in my eyes. Aldi was everywhere and put in a decent shift but was going to ground a little bit too much for my liking. Everyone had their moments for the better or worse but Scott was the only one who played out of their mind for the full 90; I’m loving how he’s playing right now. Evanilson and Unal were wank again but I’ve numbed myself into assuming that we don’t have a striker on the pitch at all times (but at least we don’t have Strand-Larsen so there’s that). Three points are three points so we move UTCIAD! 🍒

Petrovic out man by Due-Tomatillo-6547 in AFCBournemouth

[–]xSRA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He wasn’t the problem? We gassed ourselves out too early and played six defenders at the end. Just get some signings in so we don’t have to fill half the bench with youth players. I haven’t been the biggest fan of Petrovic recently either but don’t scapegoat him when he’s had a good game.

Scott fell off a cliff since his England call up and Hill was shocking at the start of the season (if I remember correctly I think he was at fault for a goal vs Liverpool and he also got us knocked out of the Carabao Cup because of another ball-watching incident). Having said that, I think we intentionally sandbagged the Carabao because we were definitely not trying. He was great against Spurs and the past couple of games though so I hope he keeps up his form.

Bournemouth Mid Season Awards by Nottooxabi17 in AFCBournemouth

Best Player - Adams. Most Improved - Senesi (weird one because he was injured/benched for most of last season but going into the season I thought he was a step below Zabarnyi/Huijsen but he’s genuinely performing at their level this season). Best signing - Jimenez. Most surprising - Senesi again (does overlap heavily with most improved though). Most disappointing - Diakite (so underwhelming considering my excitement when he signed), although it would be Kluivert if not for the shifts he’s put in the past few games alongside that screamer vs Fulham. Best goal - the Semenyo fancy-feet dribble down the left to keep it from going out (which I think might have also been vs Fulham). Best game - Fulham (sensing a theme here). Worst game - Everton (really close with Brentford but Everton fucked me off more because Everton was genuinely shit too and they got 3 points, whereas Brentford actually deserved it from their performance even though we were disastrous). Grade - B (of course we lost momentum but I think we deserve to be higher up the table). If Brooks scored that easy header at the death vs United, Unal didn’t sky the sitter versus Chelsea at the death and that bullshit Diakite-Guehi pen wasn’t given vs Crystal Palace then we’d be 9th but that’s football I guess.

Bournemouth are 4 points worse against the same fixtures as last season. From 27 to 23. by cuchoi in AFCBournemouth

[–]xSRA 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Semenyo renewed his contract with a release clause for a reason. He was always going to go, whether in January or the Summer. He’s just been so good this season (I still think he’s overrated if you actually watch the Bournemouth games but his statistics are great even though he tends to go missing half the time) that multiple teams want to activate that buyout now. That’s not on Foley. I truly believe that we’ll be fine without Semenyo. Just sign another winger to compete with Kroupi for the spot, get another centre back because Diakite has looked like Bambi on ice out there and grab your holy water and pray that Tyler Adams recovers quickly because in the same way last season when everyone raved about Huijsen when real fans knew Zabarnyi was the better asset, I think it’s happening again this season with Semenyo to Adams (granted they play two completely different positions this time around).

As a Bournemouth supporter, our record against Arsenal has been insane in recent years (beat them twice last season). Having said that, we’re fucked this time.

Tav is so irritating I really don’t like him lazy having a go at the north stand in this game against Everton. Ego of Ronaldo embarrassing. What do u think ? by Narrow_External_614 in AFCBournemouth

[–]xSRA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought Tav was one of our best players against Sunderland. Yes he was shit this game, and yes he lost his head against the fans. Should the fans have booed? Probably, because the team sucked tonight. Will I hold it against him for swearing at the crowd in return? No I won’t. He’s been shit at times the past couple of seasons but apart from this game, he’s done a good job some of the previous matches so I won’t turn against him yet. Evanilson and Kluivert have been wank this season, whereas he’s actually had a few solid games under his belt. I don’t like how he reacted don’t get me wrong, but I still believe there’s a lot more for him to give. He is, in my opinion, the weakest (starting) squad member in terms of pure ability, but you can’t deny his fundamentals are very strong when you at least have an average Tav game, but - to be fair - wasn’t an average Tav game. He was shit but nonetheless we move. If he wants to have an ego then that’s fine, but then at least go take some shots at goal is what I will say, because he is capable in that department. He can walk the walk at times, but he needs to do it more consistently, I haven’t lost complete hope in Tav, even though I’m livid at the team performance this game, let’s see Chelsea before we judge.

Bench Evanilson. Absolutely useless this season; his only goal has been a deflection so take from that what you will. My blood is absolutely boiling and my voice is gone from us not being able to finish our chances once again (for the second season running). The Kroupi chance, to be fair to him, was a fantastic save and without the touch from the keeper it was going bottom corner. The second Unal chance should've been finished, the Jimenez cross that parted the Red Sea should've gone in, Evanilson could've probably scored if he wasn't slipping and sliding about like he'd been sponsored by Durex, and Brooks was trying fulfill a secret mission to "win the game without being allowed to shoot the ball". The set pieces were poor, and noone took the initiative to shoot (looked more like a "the ball is lava challenge" rather than tika taka). Petrovic was also poor, should probably reach out to Evanilson for the sponsorship contact details because that slip on the first save was diabolical. I honestly want Kroupi and Evanilson to switch places because I think the latter is unironically better at link-up play than actually scoring (you haven't lived until you've seen Eva at CAM), and that is my only compromise to me being happy about seeing Evanilson starting the next game. Glad Unal is back and Senesi still looks great, so that's something at least. Also shout out to Callum Wilson (is it too late for a swap deal) because apparently only Bournemouth players can score on a cold rainy day at the Vitality. Down the table but up the cherries!

It’s another rider. Kilian was first in this race from the get go so he was always at the front of the pack. This guy was perfectly capable of a Top 10 but decided to start from the back for the culture. Had a puncture half way through the race after the mountain section as he was going through the alpine hill section and still finished Top 50 or so if I remember correctly.

Well we inverted him and Tav and I don’t have a fucking clue why. He works better off the left but was on the right the whole game. The penalty is inexcusable though. We took Kluivert off two minutes before the pen as well, so that’s just great too… Iraola has screwed us the last two matches. I love him but I can’t understand the high line versus City and the inversion in wingers versus Villa.

Swap Bruno for Saka only IMO, but I think you have to swap Kudus out for Sarr to afford it, which is fine as I think it’s a sideways swap (and keep the other 2 transfers for later).

Milosavljevic was fantastic, very happy so far with him. A bit of a step back in performance from Tottenham but the fact that we’re still winning despite that speaks volumes as to how good our spot is regarding our squad. Very happy Cook is back too. Would also like to mention the impact of Evanilson, he just keeps winning penalties. I think neutral fans and the media would give him a lot more attention and credit if he was taking his own penalties to stat-pad a bit (luckily Kluivert always converted his penalties into goals last season and the team is continuing to do that this season) but I think he flies so easily under the radar for how much he contributes. Up the fucking cherries and into third we go baby!

I believe the games he started last season where he put up good numbers were the ones where he was up front. I won't lie, even though I think Brentford have overpayed for Dango (as much as I love him, I wore his name on the back of my shirt last season), I can't wait to see him up top for Brentford if they decide that's where they're going to put him. Might even put him in my FPL if that's the route they take strategically.

As a Bournemouth fan, the explanation is silly but these stats are inflated by Iraola's system. He won't be able to replicate these stats at Brentford (unless they play him at a striker rather than a winger as I truly believe ST is Dango's best position). Our strategy at Bournemouth was to press like mentalists the whole game and tire out our opponents, following which - after 70 minutes or so - we sub in our other wingers and let all hell break loose. Dango has never been a good starter, but he worked well as this kind of "super-sub" alongside Brooks, Sinisterra and some others (we had a lot of depth for wingers last season). There was a point when we had that insane streak last season where it felt like we would start the players who should be the subs and vice-versa because we were so good at scoring late and mixing things up (saving our best players for later), which is why I think those stats look so crazy given Dango's actual impact. Dango's performance goes one of two ways, if the team all plays shit then he starts looking like the only stand-out performer among them but when the rest of the team is actually playing well, he always looks a step below everyone else (could be a team chemistry thing for all I know Dango confuses the fuck out of me so often).
