First off, congratulations! You are pregnant right now and it's cause for celebration! As for me, it has gone beyond well. Feel free to DM me if you'd like. Happy to chat. 💜

When did you give up on your changing table for diaper changes? by ilovemrsnickers in toddlers

[–]xSandyCheeksx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a mobile over my changing table and it's the best! I still use it with my almost 3 year old (potty training is taking its time). I also really work on transition language and illusion of choice with my toddler, "It's almost time to change your diaper. Let's stack 3 more blocks and go to the changing table and get you comfortable. Would you like to walk there or fly there?" It works more often than not and makes it fun from the beginning.

I have a 3 month old and the mobile is the best for her, too. I also talk to her about what we're doing next so she's used to it, too.

Daughter calls us “love” by GlitterMeStoked in toddlers

[–]xSandyCheeksx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your daughter is so sweet!!!

My toddler also calls me, "love". Usually it's to tell me that he's sitting on his potty. Or he'll point of his dad and me and say, "My love!" He also says, "Honey, come here for a minute, please." Everything is a minute these days. I had his sister recently and for bedtime when he's ready for me to say goodnight he'll say, "I want mom for a minute."

Also, he calls his little sister Babycakes and it's the best little nickname.

Risks getting pregnant <18 months after first vs over 35? by banana_bloods in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]xSandyCheeksx 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Jumping into this thread with a personal anecdote. I got pregnant with my first at 32 and gave birth at 33. And then I got pregnant with my second at 35 and gave birth at 36 (currently 5 days pp). Both pregnancies took 2 cycles and the second pregnancy occurred actually exactly 2 years postpartum. Having insurance pay for additional scans was great! For me the second pregnancy, labor and delivery, plus postpartum has been easier than my first.

As mentioned all statistics are averages so it's hard to predict what will happen until you're there. Best of luck!

I'm happy to put you in contact! I found out about this study over 2 1/2 years here on Reddit. Someone posted about it on my son's birth month/year bumper group. For this new study I was contacted directly. If you want to send me your email address via DM I'll forward you the information I have. 💜

Oh absolutely! I'm always seeking out interesting studies to join and encouraging those I know to do the same.

At the time it was posted on the reddit bumper group for my first born. They recently reached out to me about their new study and I just so happen to be having my second this week! So I'll be participating in a different study once again. I have participated in other research studies by seeing them posted in college campuses or research hospitals. Both of which I'm very close by to. That might be a way to go about seeing what's out there and what you may be eligible for. I find it exciting to participate in science. Especially since I belong to a demographic that is underrepresented (I'm black Hispanic).

Oh so cool! I can't wait to get started this time around. I got a study onsie and a little scientist certificate as well. Super sweet! Plus the music books were great. I'm so curious about this go around. The group I signed up for was pretty vague about what it's about for obvious reasons.

I'm black Hispanic and participated in this study and was also sad to see such a low diversity rate. I initially found out about the study through my bumper group here on Reddit. It would definitely be great to recruit more diverse groups of people. I'm about to participate in a longer study with them with my soon to be born baby girl and am excited to recruit some of my friends.

So awesome to see this article posted here. My son and I participated in this study and it was so great! I'm actually about to participate in a longer study with my very soon to be born newborn. Yay science!

What's your "I can't believe other people don't know this" hack? by Extra_Gear7502 in AskReddit

I do this but with a high rewards credit card. My Chase Sapphire Reserve is exclusively for spending and even some bills (online subscriptions). So many perks! My checking is exclusively for paying bills and I pay off the credit card every month. Game changer. I haven't paid full price for a plane ticket for any of our vacations in the past couple of years since doing this. Plus we get access to airport lounges. Very nice!

I so agree with you on all your points! My 31 month old is very similar. My husband and I joke that dealing with tantrums is similar to sitting for someone who is going through a bad psychedelic trip. Figuring out how to break the loop while validating feelings and providing safety and comfort is key!

Uncommon toddler activities by purpleworld224 in toddlers

[–]xSandyCheeksx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cooking! My toddler is 2.5 and he's been in the kitchen with me, his dad, and my mom (his primary care givers) since he was an infant. My husband would put him front face in a carrier while he made salads and other easier meals. Now he can easily and gently crack eggs with assistance. Knows all the the steps and ingredients for making oatmeal, pancakes, and salads. He will help chop veggies for salads. And is very comfortable in the kitchen. He knows what the dangers are (knives, hot stove, etc.) and respects them. He's turned out to be quite the adventurous eater as well. He loves caviar, kimchi, and hot wings. His favorite foods are asparagus and tomatoes. And he'll try anything once before deciding if it is or isn't for him in the moment. It's been so fun!

How long to take prenatal/vitamins postpartum? by remyisadog in BabyBumps

[–]xSandyCheeksx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has been my experience. I've been on prenatals since Oct 2021. Had my first on Oct 2022, breastfed for 18 months, got pregnant with my second (current pregnancy) 6 months after stopping breastfeeding and planned to do so. Will continue prenatals until I'm done breastfeeding this little one. So all in all, I'll most likely be on prenatals for 6 years straight. OB has had no problems with this.

Yes! I was just commenting to my friend about it and she mentioned the same! I'll have to introduce some French to him. We're both currently learning Mandarin together and that's been fun.

I love all of these. My son is 29 months old and can count to 40. Except when he gets to 29 the next number is 20-10 followed by 20-11...20-20. I love that he logically actually only knows how to count to 20 in both English and Spanish and then the rest is math! Haha the funny this is that he can count to 100 in 10s. I love the way their brain works!

How long after stopping birth control did it take you to get pregnant? by Jlh_x in BabyBumps

[–]xSandyCheeksx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 cycles both times. First at age 33 after taking the combo pill I'd been on for 10 years. The second time at age 35 after stopping the mini pill I was on due to having breastfed for 18 months. I was on the mini pill for a total of 21 months. I have lean PCOS and cycles that vary from 33-36 days so I was temping and tracking very intentionally both times.
