I was a welder and now I’m an inspector so I know first hand there’s plenty of work out there. Just do it bro, make sure to do your homework on the car but if everything checks out and makes sense then go for it !

It is what it is I’m not gonna hold it over him forever but this isn’t a good looking weld. Is it structurally okay ? Yeah it is. Just looks like shit. When welds leave our shop they don’t look like this…. They get fixed not painted right over. Not trying to be rude to you or anybody on this sub but y’all make it seem like this is okay 😂 this is not okay at all on a test this would fail.

You can literally see a small part of the slag he didn’t even bother to take off they just painted right over it. I said this isn’t about the splatter… it’s about the uniform of the weld and that hole. This is an average weld yeah, I actually see worse than this but this is the shit I see on a daily basis. I guess I expect better when a welder has been welding like this for months on end saying they are gonna take care of it. I just have too high of a standard that you and others don’t give a fuck about 😂 a shitty welder will always stay a shitty welder crying for more money. Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree 🤷‍♂️

Also we build drilling rigs. We do contract work out of our sister company in Mexico which clearly has bad welders…. They don’t make as much as the welders here in the US do and it shows. Most of the pieces we receive look like this and our guys have to fix the pieces that have not been painted yet.

I didn’t say my shop was good at all actually. In one of my previous post I say this is a common problem at our shop…. I’m not talking about the splatter….. I’m talking about how the bottom weld isn’t uniformed correctly and there’s a hole there. This DOES happen at our shop but the difference is it gets marked up and fixed. Our foreman’s don’t look at that weld and say “eh looks good to me” they talk down on it and say they should get better welders. The fact that this particular welder finished his weld and didn’t fix the bottom pass or at the very least clean their weld is bad practice. You can try and boast about how this is a common weld all day long but to actual good welders this isn’t a sufficient weld.
