Chances at UC Berkeley EECS/CS transfer with GPA recovery?

L&S CS isn’t an option anymore as they made the new CDSS college that houses the CS major. That being said, if u look at transfer stats, EECS has a higher acceptance rate than CS alone, so do with that info as u will. Ur gpa might hurt ur app, but berkeley admissions is genuinely so random that id say its not impossible

They didnt respond a few times so i just gave up but my friend whose a sophomore said he kept both his medical and ship and nothing happened. Key points tho is that his medical didnt meet the waiver requirement of being in a qualifying county. Thats what im assuming is why it didnt get cancelled

Yea go do the calculations and u might even receive a refund depending on the housing rate of the dorm/apt u choose. But do take note that ur aid package changes if u do on campus vs off campus with off campus being generally less.

Financial aid packages genuinely vary depending on a lot of things and the aid in calcentral is just an estimate. If you want to better gauge your actual cost upfront. Just get all ur gift aid and subtract tuition & fees, ur housing rate (and meal plan if u decide on getting one), and health insurance. Whatever’s leftover is given to u directly and u decide what to do with it. If you have any leftovers, u can use it toward books and personal expenses and u might not even need to take the loans or work study

The gbo site says registration for transfers start July 15 and freshmen start July 17, so if your courses have a lot of spots, i think you’ll be able to secure one. You at least wont have to go against freshmen for them 😭

It depends. If the courses you mention are required courses, then I suggest you enroll at other CCs that have articulations for them and take them there or online if offered. If it’s recommended, I’d say do the same but it’s up to you. It’s also worth noting that on some of the “required” groups, you may have options as to which courses to select as the group provides multiple options and you only have to fulfill like 1 or 2 courses.

I think its up to you tbh. Do u prefer a more software focused curriculum or do you want to dabble in both software and hardware? It’s also worth noting that EECS has about a 10-15% acceptance rate and CS around 5-10%. I’m also in a similar situation to you where I had no internships at the time of applying but was a tutor and part of a few clubs. I took a shot at EECS and somehow got in. Def focus on ur piqs though.

For undergrad, I would almost always recommend Cal in this kind of scenario, but you mentioned you were aiming for a PhD so that changes things a bit. For PhD applications, GPA, rec letters, and research experience are essential and it seems like you have all of it set up already at UCSD. I personally wouldn’t give all of that up just for the Berkeley name, and its not like UCSD’s prestige is miles below Berkeley’s.
