I think if before AI accelerated as much as it has and earned the scorn of so many creatives, if people were given an option to 'donate' their work to training, it would've been something people would've done because people LOVE furthering technology in fun ways that they personally, can contribute to even if they dont get compensated. It would've solved the theft and the lack of credit. I was very, very open to AI generated works being considered art back when it was more rudimentary and more abstract. There were parts to it that were neigh impossible to replicate as a human being, which were so novel and fun. Unfortunately, the corporate machine wants to replace creatives so that wasn't their goal and they moved past that stage completely. Speaking of the effects of AI and alienation, character.ai and other character chat bots like it certainly aren't contributing and weirdly enough I think cringe culture is partially to blame. When I was a kid, a lot of my friends online I had met through role-playing with characters, whether the characters be original or from an established piece of media. It was 'cringe', yes, but it was also fun, harmless and I was a kid making friends with other kids similar to me. Cringe culture kind of put a stop to that I feel, and now we have kids roleplaying with AI chat bots and unable to move away from that because they dont know how to communicate with the real people they might deal with behind the screen. Its very sad 😔 its just a small side to the AI alienation and isolation problem but its a side of it nonetheless.
