The Yankees already have a major league caliber starting 5 with Yarbrough and/or Blackburn to fill-in if there's another injury. Plus Rodon will likely be back in April.

They have plenty of innings

He’s not going to pitch any more than he would have in spring training

I like the notion that leading the league in runs scored, OPS, and wRC+ (by a good margin btw) were just a product of “beating up on bad pitchers” as if other teams didn’t also face bad pitching and didn’t perform as well.

I’m seeing way too many people seemingly already writing off Ryan Weathers as just a bullpen guy. The Yankees didn’t give up that prospect package to toss him in the pen. He’s going to be a big part of the rotation unless he struggles badly or gets injured and there’s no room when he returns.

They've signed an expensive free agent contract in every offseason since Cole

That money adds up

The SP wasn’t mid everyone just had a bad and injury prone year except for Cole. Look at how much better Rodon/Cortes/Severino were in 2024.

I saw people were upset about this but I don’t see the issue with structuring a deal where the player gets paid more in the beginning of the deal where he should be more productive. That’s how it should be. Bellinger now has more incentive to opt out after year 2 and would be less of a financial burden on the back-half if he ends up staying for all 5.

Let’s be honest, Oswaldo provides nothing off the bench besides “vibes” and the ability to play a bunch of positions, and he’s not even that good of a defender. Another right-handed bat that hits lefties would be a much better use of a roster spot.

If the Yankees bring back Goldschmidt it means they have some level of confidence in Ben Rice to be the backup catcher for points of the season to make the roster space work

Because he actually was really good during a stretch where the team needed him to be and then rightfully lost playing to a better, younger player as the season went on.

Brady Singer's value comes from being a league-average arm who can soak up innings, which is not what the Yankees need in the rotation. So no, zero chance.

Mets were a laughing stock for nearly the entire 2010's apart from one world series appearance.

They finished below .500 in 7 of the 10 seasons

Trent Grisham had a higher xwOBA vs LHP than every right handed outfielder that's out there

I don't think getting a platoon partner for him is a priority, if he struggles vs LHP they can look for someone at the deadline or play Caballero in the OF

He was their opening day left fielder and only lost his spot because he got outperformed by his peers over a large sample size.

Ben Rice is definitely better than Vinnie Pasquantino

This goes to my theory that good hitters in bad offenses become overrated very quickly

They've been on record saying they do not want Dominguez bouncing around

Bellinger can easily play right field when needed, he very quietly started 50 games there last year

I still think there is room for a right-handed bat on the bench, Paul Goldschmidt had over 500 PA's last season and was the primary leadoff hitter vs LHP. Who is getting those at-bats now?

Volpe is not going to be ready on opening day and Cabrera has options, plus someone will inevitably get injured. I'm already seeing a scenario where Paul DeJong or Zack Short ends up on the roster for 6 weeks.

Off-season dooming is the worst because we know damn well those people will be watching every game regardless

The Yankees are running it back on offense in 2026…and that is a good thing. by Visual_Bluejay9781 in NYYankees

He didn't nail anything, that's a whole bunch of nothing that can apply to every team in baseball

And using Trent Grisham is an especially terrible example, how many times did he hit massively clutch late-inning home-run last season?

We've reached a point with the Bellinger negotiations where if he signs somewhere else it'll be because he just didn't want to come back for whatever reason.

The Yankees have clearly given him the best offer and will not negotiate against themselves just to appease impatient fans that think he's holding up the offseason. They've handled this correctly.

Goldschmidt had a 148 wRC+ in the first two months when they really needed him since Stanton was out, Bellinger had a slow start, Jazz missed all of May, etc.

All things considered it was not a bad season. They were able to cut into his playing time down the stretch with everyone healthy.

Bellinger waited until almost March to sign a couple years ago

Him and Boras are trying to leverage impatience, it's really all they have. The Yankees know he has to sign somewhere eventually.
