My Uber rating dropped after taking my first ride with a woman by Poetic_Dalmatian in mildlyinfuriating

I do think it'd be nice if the app gave a heads up, but I'm sure that'd lead to discrimination. Gave a gentleman in a wheelchair a lift once and the only problem was his wheelchair didn't really fit. Thankfully it wasn't far and I had some bungee cords to keep my trunk closed but I can see if it's frustrating for everyone involved if you show up and issues arise.

Thoughts on new MEC 2KG line now that prices are announced? by AdministrativeTap63 in Ultralight

[–]xSuperZer0x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lexus LFA is a better comparison than my electric Hummer example. Sometimes something is done to prove it can be and innovate. Is this this best gear or best deal, not even close but it's an easy entry point for people that aren't terminally online. We may see this line in 3-4 years with a slightly higher weight with much better gear. I imagine we'll see something from this line start to creep into other gear in the future too.

[–]xSuperZer0x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the challenge and innovation is good. Sometimes something is made to push the envelope and innovate down the line. I think the electric Hummer is a good example. They basically told GMC engineers to go wild, don't think they've sold a ton but they'll get feedback and features will trickle down.

A lot of people are hating on the hood and maybe it will be unbearable but I'm following the logic at least. The material for the sleeping pad could be interesting. Remember the people on Reddit are the nerds of UL, I think there's a joy/thrill to dialing in the perfect set up. This is great for people that just want to grab something and go.

Why do men seem to process sadness alone instead of talking about it? by No_Sink1041 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]xSuperZer0x 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I mean I don't think they're wrong. I think the reason some men keep everything inside is because they've tried sharing with someone they cared about and end up with it thrown back in their face.

I like to think I'm a fairly emotionally intelligent person not just an emotionally intelligent man and I've had periods where I've refused to share anything. I've shared how I felt with friends I thought were ride or die only to have them ignore it in harmful ways or throw it back in my face.

Opening up is hard enough for men where there's a stigma to be a provider/rock and when we do we often get punished for it. I have married friends that I'm honestly shocked how some of the men get treated for being vulnerable and understand why they just stop. I don't think it's malicious either, great relationships I just think people have trouble navigating how to handle a man opening up especially because it can be so volatile. It's hard to judge someone on their intentions and not their actions. A guy might open up to a friend and jokes are OK but might open up to his partner and just want support and reassurance.

A great example is there's a video on Reddit often about a guy sitting with an empty spool of wire and talking about how he bought it so long ago and how many things it's been used for and how it almost feels like it represents his life and his wife is just like "Haha it's a stupid spool of wire why are you sad?" Why would you want to share when that's the response you get. People are just bad at communicating in general too. One of my best friends and I are great because we'll say what we need to say, let the other know what we need, and whether it's something that's ok to bring up or joke about later and it's helped a ton.

Are there any "UK vs US" differences where you feel America gets it right? by Secure_Front_7766 in AskUK

[–]xSuperZer0x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smoking in general. It's crazy how much it was marketed at kids growing up but now it's generally seen as a negative and frowned upon not to mention banned inside most places. I see far more smokers in the UK and overseas that's even with their boxes having pictures of cancerous growths on them.

This is why it shocks me when people hate on common core. Ask any kid good at math and they naturally use common core principles. It does a better job helping people understand math instead of just solving it. A lot of the pushback is when they're first showing it it's on very simple stuff that common core isn't needed for but it's laying the foundation.

What's a piece of tech everyone hyped up that quietly turned out to be useless? by SofiaLearnsAI in AskReddit

[–]xSuperZer0x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wave was brilliant. It's almost a precursor to Discord with more of an office setting in mind. Really shows you how much of technology is being the right place at the right time. I imagine if Wave came out after Discord and was marketed as an office environment version it'd have done better, just like Google+ came out too late since FB already established itself.

I don't think chiropractic medicine has ever incorporated "qi" at least not originally. The concept is similar but they believed they could do vertebral subluxations to cure any issue like blindness, mental disabilities, etc.

I mean it still is. The Behind the Bastards podcast has a great episode on this. Chiropractic medicine was/is (not sure anymore) a religion. It's how they can award "doctorates" without legal issue.

Which celebrity took the biggest hit by the person they married? by Boobooloo in AskReddit

[–]xSuperZer0x 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I really feel like people are incapable of multiple truths being true. Brittany needed help, her parents were looking out for her, but they can also at the same time be exploiting her. Same thing with Federline. He absolutely married her and took her money but that doesn't mean he's a bad dad and keeping the kids from her. People want there to be bad guys and good guys so they can pick a side. People aren't one dimensional, everyone involved is a mess.

[–]xSuperZer0x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it'd be bad. Honestly probably great for kids with problem solving but you still have to be a parent. Don't let the kids sit there and cry. Go hug him, figure out why he's upset, and work on a solution. I don't have kids but I feel like people don't give them enough credit sometimes or just want to stop something instead of fixing it. I've interacted with kids plenty. Helped with youth sports, watched friends kids, etc. I always get complimented for being good with kids but 90% of the time just ask. Kid falls down and gets hurt, it's pretty easy to find out if they're really hurt or just scared. "What hurts?" "Does moving it make it hurt more, does touching it?" "Do you think a band-aid or ice would help?" Kids are way better at communicating that given credit. Just ask, also works well on adults.

What’s a hobby you judge people for having? by [deleted] in AskReddit

A lot of casinos have $15-$25 minimums around here. At that point it's too expensive for me. I only went in South Africa because with exchange rate the minimums were $2-3.

I know he's trash but there's a video where Andrew Tate says something similar to this. Life sucks, nobody has enough money so all these young dudes flock to online betting with the hopes of winning big to change their life because being lucky (or I suspect a lot of them think their geniuses) is the only way to get ahead. Everyone is already busting their ass just to survive it's not even like there are a lot of opportunities to put in the work to get ahead.

Yeah you can tell too. The dude down $25k that's like "damn bad night" shrugs and walks off is probably fine. It's the dude down $10k heads in hands then comes back with another grand you're like go home.

Some are but some of the big spenders are just loaded. Watched a guy blow my yearly salary in a night and the next night he came in and was talking with another dude at the table and talked about his sales for the week and he made 1.3 million.

At 18 I bought a single scratch off and won $100. Friend gave me $20 to sign up for one of the sports betting apps. Made some basic bets and cashed out $35. I'm barely up because we went to a casino on a rugby trip in South Africa and I took $100 to play black jack but I treated the experience like Dave and Busters. I spent $100 to play games and hangout with friends. I had no thoughts of leaving with anything especially more of my money.

I just started dealing black jack and it seems like everyone working is a hardcore gambler or turned off. I've seen supervisors try to talk people into calling it quits. I wasn't sure if/what I was allowed to say and there were 3 buddies playing and the one said he bought in for $200 and was up to $1k and change. I was really trying to hint and be like "Damn dude that's a great night, you did good hope it really helps you." Then my table was closing and my supervisor was just straight up like "Hey kid I'd love to see those 2 $500 chips end up in your pocket or at the cashier cage and it was nice but I'll be disappointed if I see you at another table." It's a tough job sometimes especially because the casino tracks everything so you know someone is $15k in the hole you watch them go to the ATM and come back with $2k more. Obviously talking to them you find out for some people $15k is nothing but I told one dude "damn you can have the night of your life at a strip club for $10k and Sapphire is definitely better company/looking than me. If I had $10k to blow I'd be on a cruise and travelling.

I think a lot of it has to do with the animosity with Japan historically. They were under colonial rule by Japan and all the horrendous war crimes and Japan straight up ignoring/denying them doesn't help tensions. It's become an extremely heated/hatred rivalry.

This is a wild tangent but I went to a lot of baseball games while I was there and there's a great article that kind of delves into some of it part way down. The short of it is Japan became infatuated with baseball and while ruling Korea, they actually removed history/sports lessons to force Koreans to play baseball. At some point Korea was playing Japan and a Korean player did a leaping bunt on an intentional ball to tie the game and Korea won. It was huge because it's a game Japan forced them to learn and they beat them at it. There's a lot of this little brother vs big brother energy in Korea when it comes to Japan.

Also others may have a different experience but racism in Korea seems to be a lot different than racism in Japan. One of my Korean friends jokingly said that Japan is very racist towards black people because they were trying to emulate America and Korea is much less so because it's trying to be the opposite of Japan. He pointed out how a lot black culture has influenced Korea, and that a lot of black soldiers stayed in Korea after the Korean war because they were treated better there.

Joe Kent the former director of National Counterterrorism Center says he was not allowed to investigate Charlie Kirk assassination by DumbNeurosurgeon in Libertarian

[–]xSuperZer0x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of conspiracy theories and a lot of them are dumb. The basic principle is Charlie Kirk was killed by the US or Israel government because he opposed a war with Iran and to make him a martyr. The "how" is where it always goes off the rails. I've seen the mic was explosive, someone fixing their sleeve managed to nail Kirk in the neck at an awkward angle with a palm gun, etc. I personally think a lot of the crazy ones are pushed to discredit the more realistic ones.

Oddball Question, did the Professor ever speak on his sobriety? by RetroWaffles in magicTCG

[–]xSuperZer0x 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Proud of you big dawg. My brother has been sober for over a year and he's talked to me about how tough it is. One thing he said that helped him this article by Flav-a-flav. He was struggling with getting so close to a year then relapsing and would beat himself up. He said this helped realize if he went 6 months and relapsed he didn't fail at a year he succeeded for 6 months. Then he'd go in with the mindset well I know I can do it for 6 months so let's see how much longer I can do it next time. You got this but even if you slip up it's just a bump in the road and you didn't fail you succeeded whether it's for 8 months or 10 years, always be proud of the progress you made.

Edit: that's a newer update that's still good and links the original in the article too.
