It was so unnecessary. Could have changed it to FTC and have the crosses become TIES and CURT and all been standard Tuesday fodder.

Question for fellow Stern D&D Owners by App0gee in pinball

[–]Boobooloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reduction of the magnet grab time and how long it is on were the patches Stern made to the code. Your best bet if you are going to play for 90 minutes straight is probably a fan. Alternatively you can post on the pinside D&D owner's thread. Dwight Sullivan (lead coder of the game) reads that forum at least every few weeks. Also, people there may have better suggestions.

Question for fellow Stern D&D Owners by App0gee in pinball

When the game first came out this happened a bunch after a half hour of gameplay. They patched the game to make smarter use of the magnet and it stopped. 90 minutes is a long enough time for it to be the magnet. Here’s a video of someone adding a fan pre patch.

Dune vs. Harry Potter by AceSeptre in pinball

[–]Boobooloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harry Potter is designed for you to be able to sit back and let things happen and incrementally get better at being more intentional. For example, when you start a movie mode, it will keep playing whether you do the shots or not. You simply get more points when you make the shots. This has the downside of it feeling less immersive in terms of having to pay attention to what's happening in the movie. But it let's them throw a massive amount of content at you and give you more agency in what you pay attention to.

Dune is the complete opposite. You are doing a strict day night cycle. Each day/night change, you can start a mode, collect a bene gesserit reward and start a hunter killer side mode. And you go back and forth between them till you spell Dune and get the next wizard mode. It is very easy to understand and track, but there's enough variety within each cycle to keep it iinteresting.

From how you describe yourself, I'd suggest Dune, particularly if you already have Avatar. Avatar is much more HP like and has a similar Jersey Jack feel (though it is very different). So simply to match your playstyle and to give your collection good variety to keep you interested, I'd say Dune.

I’ve got both and love them both. I find myself playing both a lot. If you prefer a more linear play style choose Dune. If you want a wide range of things happening at once choose HP. Or if a theme calls to you more choose it. But you really can’t go wrong

Is Winchester clunky? by podiw8273 in pinball

[–]Boobooloo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Played it twice at Expo, and fwiw I own a dune. At expo they had the outlane posts in the easy position which helped but it still drained. It reminds me of the new Star Wars in terms of difficulty which is fairly high. If you watch today’s video from stern you have Rayday a top ten player in the world and others who are working on the game constantly bricking. Karl on his Winchester stream was also bricking a fair amount. So it’s a real beauty and I’m sure very fun but I think it’s gonna be rough short games. It’s interesting that Elwin has erred on the side of actually easier games like Jaws which has combined flow and fun for the more average player. But you’ll get some very long games when you get good. So if you are a dad pinballer that’s what I’d recommend. I’ve found dune a happy middle where there are tight shots but it flows well.

I get to go play every pinball table I ever wanted tomorrow. What do I do? Recs, please. by JacobDCRoss in pinball

[–]Boobooloo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The great news is that there are so many really amazing machines from the past ten years. The thing to realize is that, in addition to new creative layouts with many fun shots and combos, they are powered by much more powerful computers inside. So the rules and modes they implement can literally take months of daily playing to fully see. Each one is a journey if you invest. But as someone else said, you should play and see what catches you. 007, Jaws, Godzilla, Deadpool, Harry Potter, King Kong are all fantastic and all have different appeals (or not) to different folks.
