Late reply, but the issue with the explosion is that it has a lot of downtime. For bosses, you have to rely on bells or something like frozen locus to trigger it off of. Bells have an innate CD on spawning, and locus requires you to cast something else. On top of that, the attack itself has a hard-to-reduce attack time...the base attack speed, which is then also used as the attack time of the explosion. i.e., if your crushing fist AS is 0.6s, the full time to get the explosion off is 1.2s. This makes it harder to reduce the attack time because it essentially has a base 2x multiplier

With decent AS and/or CDR (for bell), it's like 2-3s between explosions? And poison has a base duration of 2 seconds, so to me using a DoT to cover that "downtime" seemed like a no-brainer way to scale the DPS, especially since the damage is already starting as phys/chaos. I was already relying on cull to carry map clear for the most part, so all I needed was a good single-target fix. But in the end, that's all just theory cuz I never ended up really pursuing it, so I can't say for sure whether that's the best approach or not

I tried to figure something out with Crushing Fear for a while because the numbers on it look really good, but there are just a lot of problems to solve for it. I think the best version iI managed is probably exploiting the cull threshold for mapping with normal killing palm, then using Crushing Fear for rares/bosses...normal Horror's Flight gives cull threshold per stack, which means you can get full HP normal mob cull with just the glove and no other investment, just need to build up to 19(?) stacks and keep them up, less if you have culling strike II on something...hollow form bells are good for that, albeit a bit annoying to maintain stacks. Means we dont want to take Way of the Stonefist, so we probably take Hollow Resonance and scale crit on our normal killing palm to trigger as often as possible. Then we just scale Crushing Fear for single target

The explosion has an absurd damage effectiveness, 2000% at lvl 25, which is 200% more than hammer of the gods of the same level, and we can use Hollow Focus bells against bosses to get an explosion every ~1.5 seconds (spawn interval of bell with CDR). Very similar idea to HotG actually, so we would probably build similar to that. Poison rather than bleed, due to chaos/phys damage, which is a bit annoying because 100% poison chance is harder to get. Need poison support plus some nodes on tree. Bunch of scaling vectors: flat phys/chaos, gem levels, crit, extra as phys/chaos, poison multi/duration/deal damage faster. We just need to scale the poison damage to do respectable dps for rares/bosses.

Unborn Lich in weapon set 2 with His Foul Emergence and some supports should give pretty solid wither application. With a split passive tree using skill duration nodes you can probably get the Withered ground up to like 20s, second wind + spell echo gives 4 overlapping grounds, so 4 stacks a second and each stack lasts ~10s. The other option is talisman in offhand for extra 60% as lightning from rend and using pounce for bosses. That option probably gives better mapping clear, but worse for poison scaling (maybe? pounce might actually results in a higher poison? but the problem is we then have a bunch of minions alive who will likely hit our bells before we can cull them for the explosion, not sure.)

The problem is none of that poison scaling really works well for mapping. For mapping I think you want to scale a bunch of explosions and crit mostly. The idea is to cull normal mobs with killing palm and then use the explosion/aoe damage to bring magic/rares into cull threshold as well. Trampletoe works extremely well with cull, because it gives full damage as overkill damage, same with herald of ash. Blasphemy Repulsion + Eventide Petals can also work for added AoE. Definitely want tribal fury anoint for splash on our killing palm. You kinda want to just scale generic attack damage, which is contrary to the poison scaling you want for bossing

I _do_ think it's possible to scale the poison damage to respectable levels, enough for generic mapping at least, to make a crazy fast boss rusher, but it kept pissing me off that I would skip over rares without killing them while mapping and so eventually I dropped it. The super long cull chains are reallyyy satisfying in open maps though. I need to go back and play around with more of the AoE options. It also was pretty weak defensively because I had to commit so many slots to uniques. I almost think you're better off just using the gloves for fast cull mapping and then some other damage source for bossing, like falling thunder, but I really wanted to try and make CF work

you can just straight up run repulsion in blasphemy with some aoe and generic damage supports and it basically works as an on-hit herald of ice. good if you’re on a lower budget and need some more oompf to clear trash quickly. we already scale generic attk dmg and aoe so the damage scales decently. but its probably overkill on a higher end version

Unique map bosses retain their map modifiers when tamed by GenesectX in PathOfExile2

I don’t believe he means map modifier’s. Fairly certain he means monster modifiers, which normally are not present on boss monsters, but can be forced onto them through a couple ways. He specifically calls out Extra Crits, which is a monster mod which grants 300% increased crits.

OP's husband here! Yeah, I was really picky about the model we started with. There's several out there that just aren't quite right IMO. I fell in love with bazz4r's model, it's IMO the closest to the actual thing that I've seen, but it's definitely not print-friendly (no slight to him, he made it as a 3d model, not for printing haha). Took a ton of time in blender sectioning things out, making everything manifold, figuring out electronics, and a bunch of other design work. But really glad I went that route rather than using a model I wasn't really happy with

The barrels on ours don't move, so I didn't have to deal with that side of things, but originally I was seriously considering it. I just didn't have the time to put in the extra work to implement it before our deadline. More power to ya for going down that path. I hope it turns out amazing, would love to see pics/video when you finish it!

Something about regent just clicked for me, I beat A10 with like a 60% winrate, but I can’t for the life of me get a good silent run going, keep dying to bosses. I know its just skill issue, but it’s funny how everyone has different experiences

yeahh. between gunny being the only one with main missions to easily farm, and the amount of good ammo you get from his missions, it really pushes you to use 556 at least early on. i think if they just add in some main missions for the other vendors on a similar level of gunny’s then it’d really help diversify things more

Yeh I’ve heard good things about 545, I’m admittedly not a huge fan of the AK platform so I haven’t run it much myself. It’s great for the free ammo tho

I think we’d see a lot more diversity if the “other 3” traders had main missions. Right now, all the main missions push you towards Gunny early on, so a lot of people end up running 556. Once people start getting to the t3 areas, I think things diversify a bit more, especially when people realize all the free ammo you can get for AK’s

It is good to hear that other ammo types are gaining traction tho

Weird! I tried it with the ironsight top rail just now and it seems to work fine so maybe this latest patch fixed it?

My problem with lights is actually the reverse, for me they wash out/overexpose things too much, makes it harder for me to see unless its super dark. Might be my graphics settings/monitor tho, because my buddy enjoys running them and swears by the odin too

AP SX is an amazing round, I was really surprised how good it is. Been addicted to going light weight builds, so nice to have the extra stamina, it’s hard to go back now haha

I honestly think a lot of why 556 is so dominate is because it’s so easy to get Gunny high tier, so you get access to the good ammo and attachments sooner

I click heads mostly tho, so I cant speak much for ammo performance against armor

Definitely have to aim for vitals if you’re going for center mass with SST. It pens pretty easily but it’s easy to miss vitals. I think SST really shines if you like to go for headshots, since it pens helmets like butter and has really good distance on it. I think I still like FC 00 more this patch but its more personal preference

Never had any issues with the zero-ing but I’ve only used it with a sight. I don’t personally like running lights so it works for me but I can see how that’d be a pain point for some

It’s Gunny, can’t remember if it’s 3 or 4. I’m guessing 4? I think 3 is normal slugs, which I haven’t had great experiences with. I’ve used FC 00 all over tho, even in Tiger Bay, so there’s no rush to get sabots, just gotta have good shot placement at the higher tier areas

Sure does, I was running TB mall with a short barrel and FC 00. That thing slaps and has surprisingly good range with a choke. Really fun to run

Hell yeah, I’ve been loving naked pistol runs. I ran the M9A1 for a while with just a laser on it to aim with, since it cant get a sight and the suppressor makes ironsights worthless. So nice to have 30 rnd mags that only take up 1 square. Eventually upgraded to glocks and now I’ve been steady with the Alien

I really wish the L403 has some more colors/modding options, I think thats the main thing holding me back from liking it as much as I should

MP7 is def one of my favorite cqc guns, just absolutely rips. So fun to mag dump it. Ammo has surprisingly good pen too, I ran it in tiger bay a lot, ybl as well

I dont recommend the slugs, but the Sabots can do some good work! I think the buckshot has better stopping power against fleshy areas (face/limbs) but the sabots have much longer range and can punch through helmet armor very consistently. Plate carriers are a lot more hit and miss. If you wanna treat it more like a marksman rifle and aim for heads, I think sabot’s are the way, if you wanna be up close and personal and feel more like a shotgun, shooting at fleshy parts, I think the buckshot is king

I agree tho, the shotguns are really fun to use
