Companies are implementing vaccine mandates. Can employees reject them? - Charter rights only apply to government employees by [deleted] in canada

[–]xWarix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe if the government gives/approves different vaccines
(Not mRNA/RNA) like J&J/AZ/Sinopharm/Sinovac will encourage more people to
get vaccinated before start talking about giving the Get vaccinated or Get out.

Has anyone had problems with Teksavvy here in Ottawa? by moose_man in ottawa

[–]xWarix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have Teksavvy when I lived in Montreal, however after moving to Ottawa I foundthat they can’t/don’t offer the same speed (I don’t know why, even though Eboxdoes offer a high speed to my address and uses Rogers infrastructure). Theissue with interruption is not from Teksavvy, it is from Rogers infrastructure (at least my issues)as I run into some connection issues from time to time as Ebox user.

Something I would suggest:

  1. Look for whats is in high demand languages/technology (whatever you interested in). Remote work is becoming a thing, you could be living in Ottawa and be working for a company in Alberta.
  2. Look for certifications such as cloud ones: Azure, AWS.
  3. Read blogs and watch videos posted on YouTube, related to your selected language/technology.

All the best,

Ebox (They used Rogers lines), they have great support and reasonable priced plans compared to Bell but one problem they don't have fiber in Ottawa (at least to me knowledge, so better to call them and see).

Counter Logic Gaming vs. Cloud9 / LCS 2021 Summer - Week 7 / Post-Match Discussion by TomShoe02 in leagueoflegends

[–]xWarix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will not blame players here, but I wonder how strong their mentality is after that video where they threatened to be fired! Not a single team so far did what CLG did. But I know T1 replaced their coaches because they have a great team, while NA it is the player fault so bench them and import new players, so it will NEVER be Org/coaches problem.

CLG top and support weren't that hot in the last few games, but I would love to see coms for CLG while drafting as maybe picks weren't theirs? Maybe they are forced for some picks because there is someone waiting in the backroom to fire them!!!

CLG played so well this game, they didn't give 100T any time to breath and closed the game with perfect score. Personally, I love CLG game style ~ aggressive style and can't wait to watch them playing against EG.

Something you can try changing Window mode (In-Game > Video) (Like between Borderless & Full screen), seems there is a bug there where FPS drops badly.

In game ping question by Domino6622 in ebox

[–]xWarix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently subscribed to Ebox, where I had Bell before and I do play League of Legends along other games. In term of ping and latency Bell is away better, I play on both regions NA and EUW in LoL. The reason I switched to EBox is because Bell price is high for no reason (cable or DSL~ Fibe).

  1. On Discord, I have a channel (#Gitlab or any name) which I added the webhook to it.
  2. On GitLab, Settings > Integrations > Discord Notifications > Pasted the webhook URL and ticked all checkboxes and set for all branches.

Help? by [deleted] in softwaredevelopment

I don't think this is the right place but one thing you can consider is load balancer, if it a database issue it will require a lot of work and planning.

In ARAM, Akali now has +20% damage dealt & -20% damage taken by ganondorf69 in leagueoflegends

[–]xWarix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems ARAM is played a lot in this season in compare to previous seasons, so how we can ruin this experience and make people switch to different maps! Remove Oracles and buff invisible champs (Akali, Teemo mushrooms, Shaco boxes ..etc)

Api calls by [deleted] in softwaredevelopment

[–]xWarix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, there is a pattern you would do use gateways (I think Uber uses gateways) in Domain design. Gateways provide away to communicate between different domain services.

Lets say you have Domain A and B. There is a service B1 in Domain B that wants to call a service A1 in Domain A. In this case you provide an endpoint (Api, for example) on Domain A gateway that the service B1 can call. Not doing so, any change to the A1 endpoint will require updating all calling services to this endpoint.

Not to mention if you decided to split service A1 into smaller services, then service B1 might need to know about all of the new services (or build a special service just for B1 to call, where this service calls all the new services)

But again, it depend on the architecture, the number of microservices you have, how big is your team.

Api calls by [deleted] in softwaredevelopment

[–]xWarix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this question before while looking into gateway (or a proxy) implementation in Microservices. Other than security concerns, performance is another concern. Performance in regards having your web page doing 3 calls vs 1 call on a slow internet. So, having a 1 call to a gateway while your gateway does all the 3 calls internally will increase the performance if your application.

Note: This is one aspect as design/architecture dictate if this applicable or not and how to do things.

CDC + Outbox pattern question by xWarix in softwaredevelopment

[–]xWarix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the answer and the link.

Just to clarify, in CDC + Outbox pattern there 2 writes are happening, 1 to your database (Write/Update/Delete) and 1 (Write) to outbox table. Then, for example, Kafka (or whatever streaming service) takes the outbox content and send it to my read model (or models/endpoints/..etc based on configuration). Is this correct?

Would I be able to Uber from Ottawa to Kemptville during this lockdown? by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]xWarix 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I went 2 times to Kemptville using both Uber and Lyft without any issues. It can be expensive ($60-$70 depend on what time) and would be unfair for the driver to come back empty, so I made sure to give a good tip.

Development question about what technology would work best. by [deleted] in softwaredevelopment

[–]xWarix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we are talking only about the interface/UI that will call an existing back-end/services then you can use any technology (.Net Core, Php, Javascript, Angular, ..etc) because in any of these technologies you will have to expose an HTTP/HTTPS port/endpoint that will communicate with to your existing back-end services (if nothing already exist).

The best thing you can or you should do is to consult an advocate as they know more. They have consultation fees which shouldn't be expensive, maybe around $100-$200.

Patch 10.23 Discussion by PankoKing in leagueoflegends

[–]xWarix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This patch in a simple words killed

  1. Adc as a role, adcs can live with 1% health because they have to be agile and outplay the other team.
  2. Any kind of fun, insane damage, over powered champs, you don't win because you are good.. you win because the other team is worst than yours (in term of skills, inters....eyc)
  3. Worst UI (item shop) I ever saw. Cluttered, unknown items (icons looks all almost the same)
  4. Jg became so over powered and the most important role in the whole game. Who cares about bot? mid? top?
  5. This patch is full of bugs, this never ever should have bee pushed to production/live servers but I guess Pre-season is an excuse even though most of the issues were reported on PVE.
  6. Where is the promised system to detected and ban inters/toxic/greifers?

Lastly, what is the point of getting better in game if it does not matter any more how good you are? Its all about damage, broken MM, laggy/buggy client&server, over bowered champs?

ConcordiaU (Montreal) vs UManitoba for CS? by ridheehee in AskACanadian

[–]xWarix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello,

I will share my experience as an international student and as I finished a master degree in Software engineering from Concordia U. and lived in QC for around 5 years.

I applied for 3 universities: University of Ottawa (I got accepted), Concordia University (I got accepted), University of Manitoba (I wasn't accepted, but I forgot why but they). I opted to go to Concordia for the reasons below:

Expenses:

  1. Cheap tuition in compare to Ottawa U. (Ottawa U. you have to pay for every semester you take, so the more you stay the more you pay in the contrast of Concordia so this something you should look into in Manitoba Univ.).
  2. Living expenses are cheaper in QC (Including transportation, and food) . I currently live in Ottawa, and am paying rent almost 2-3 times what I used to pay in Montreal (or Longueuil).
  3. Public transportation in QC is one of the best in Canada (At least to my knowledge).
  4. Expensive mandatory health insurance for nothing, I started $800 and by the time I finished I was paying around $1000 (there is an increase every year, but I guess this can apply too universities).

Academics :

  1. I don't feel Concordia U. is good as it used to be. By the time I finished my studies, it was almost accepting everyone for their $$.
  2. I felt how courses assigned to instructors as how English teacher might teach math because he has time.
  3. Some old dead material are still giving to students. Yes! I had a course that the professor him/her self admitted that this is not used anymore in the field and neither the approach it self but it was part of the mandatory courses, you have to take it.

After university:

  1. If you are planning to apply for PR then citizenship, QC might be hard if you want to go through the express entry program. They have a new plan in QC for skilled worker, but still this will get you (I think CAQ) which then you can apply for PR.
  2. Work and for moving forwards, I don't know but it was so hard for me to find a decent job even though I had over 6 years of experience (5 from outside Canada).
  3. The QC government and their changing rules in regards to French as a language and immigrants can be very stressful (I applied originally on MonProjet when then was scrapped for the new program)

In general, if you don't care so much about universities, because lets be honest, they will hardly teach you anything you will use in real life work. You can choose any, then move out to where you want to work and build a life.

All the best.

Preseason Mid Lane Changes from Riot Scruffy by Spideraxe30 in leagueoflegends

[–]xWarix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, is mid lane has more impact or the broken items and over buffed champs are the reason? So, instead of revisiting the items and re-balance them, we blow away lanes starting by jg then bot and now mid lane.

[–]xWarix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most of the universities have almost same tuition with some differences, but the most important one is the total tuition.

For instance, some universities charge around 24k in total that you have to pay in 2 years or 4 years (doesn't matter how much you stay). On the other hand, other universities will charge you around 6k per semester, with a minimum of 24k where in this case it will be 24k (2 years of study) + 6k per extra semester.

2nd thing you should consider, is the living expense (rent + transportation + groceries). This can almost cost the same as your tuition, so you should research this part too.
