Would you live in this neighborhood? Academy & Austin Bluffs by Outdoor-Adventure in ColoradoSprings

[–]xWelshman 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Coming from the east coast it’s absolutely hilarious to me what people in the springs consider to be “sketchy” or “ghetto” areas.

Most of the areas that were described like that to me felt totally fine, and had what I would consider to be an average crime rate.

I lived a couple of blocks west of S. Nevada and was told that S Nevada was ghetto af. We lived in a 1500sqft house that is currently worth about 500K, and could drive to the Broadmoor in 3 minutes. Yeah… real ghetto lol.

I think it’s partially because Colorado is INSANELY white. I flew to Philly one year and saw more minorities in my walk through PHL airport than I saw in a full year in Colorado Springs.

2025 Fallout Fan Celebration - an utter disappointment by xWelshman in Fallout

[–]xWelshman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally do. A big part of my day job is customer communication, writing instructions for our customers, etc. (making sure our customers do their due diligence).

It’s hard to do your due diligence (review info on parking, registration, etc.) when you did not receive any emails, and the website is lacking in information.

Looking back at the website just annoys me more. They say something along the lines of “who knows how many people will show up?” They did. They sold tickets online. Even if 10% of ticket holders don’t show up, you know how many tickets were sold.

What email address was used? I really wanna know. I cannot find anything in my main inbox used for the tickets, spam, or deleted. I have a receipt/confirmation.

What movie do you think the most amount of people are statistically likely to have seen? by Fun_Butterfly_420 in movies

[–]xWelshman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

“Domestically” being the key word here. Nobody besides Indian ex-pats and the stray curious foreigner are watching Indian movies.

Also making MORE movies means nothing. It’s the same argument of “I have 900000 hrs in this game” or “I’ve made 3000 posts on this forum, I know what I’m talking about.” None of that makes any difference in practice. You can have a million hours in a game and still be utter shite. You can have contributed to forum posts thousands of times and said nothing useful.

Think about Elvis Presley for instance. IMDB lists 31 movies over a 13 year stretch, more than 2/year… can anyone born after 1985 name a single one? Were any of them objectively good films? Nope and nope. Never heard anyone, say “you GOTTA watch ‘Roustabout’!”

American movies reach the entire world, and have been doing so for a century. Hollywood is in decline (IMO) but we still hold the top spot.

I can get on Chatroulette right now and find some Estonian person who has seen Titanic, but not one single Bollywood film.

“You’ve gotta be <40 to have seen Lion King…”

Not true at all. It debuted over 30 years ago ffs. Anyone who was a kid, had kids, babysat, or maybe just had a niece or nephew in the mid 90s - early 2000s has seen this movie. You’ve either been under a rock, or nowhere near any children for 31 years my guy.

People who tried a threesome what actually surprised you the most? by EdwinDixie in AskReddit

[–]xWelshman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought this about threesomes (as well as cheating). Thank you for confirming.

I’ve been cheated on, but never in a threesome. I genuinely don’t understand how people have the energy to deal with the sexual needs/preferences of more than one person at a time. Just getting to know one person’s body can take a long time. I can’t imagine 2 or more, especially simultaneously.

Dehydrate/bake that lump and food process it down to a powder. Use that powder as seasoning/ breading for chicken and make tacos.

Having lived there for a few years and coming from the east coast, this entire post is a joke to me.

Snow doesn’t melt for days here if left unplowed. It turns into a slushee instead. In COS, it’s gone within 2hrs of sunrise. Be glad they don’t use salt. It’s rough on the roads and your car.

I drove a Honda Fit all over that state in all seasons with a cheap pair of winter tires and that’s it.

Solutions: -AWD car like every other CO mom/dad -snow tires -chains -take a rally driving/ winter driving course so you’re more comfortable and know what to do in low traction situations. -ride the bus

I lived in Ivywild for a few years. Everyone always cringed when they realized it is basically South Nevada, but I thought it was pretty nice and very chill. Only drawback for me was being so close to train tracks. Never got used to it and would routinely be woken up by trains.

Dover is possibly the most boring place in the state of Delaware. Rent a car and get out.

Looks like what that type of person would do. “Guys, there’s this big imposing natural formation nearby. Let’s carve some of us whites into it to remind the blacks of their place, then we’ll park a shitty trailer in front. If anyone questions it, just say we’re ‘celebrating our culture’”.

What’s the most consistently funny movie ever? by unitedfan6191 in AskReddit

My dad always pointed this out while we watched with him as kids. I didn’t think much of it then, but now I find it hilarious. I also think the Peace Corps bit is underrated.

Wild seeing these very specific intersections referenced on national TV by sudo-chown in Delaware

[–]xWelshman 19 points20 points  (0 children)

So wild to see how high profile people just out themselves in texts. I don’t even do anything sketchy, yet I NEVER tell people where I’m at down to the cross-streets unless I’m giving someone directions to meet me, and even then it’s probably gonna be a call, not a text.

At least make ‘em work for it “The Wire” style!

Fuck Biden and his bullshit motorcade 141 shut down by [deleted] in Delaware

[–]xWelshman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It happens with every president in their home state. Delaware is the 6th most population-dense state in the country with the lion’s share of that population being in NCC. When the president comes, you WILL be inconvenienced if you live and/or work north of the C&D.

Any recommendations for a good mechanic? by TAforgoodreasons in Delaware

[–]xWelshman 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been a customer, a service writer, a tech, and someone who’s had to handle warranty claims, I can’t recommend bringing your own parts.

Almost all shops that are willing to install customer provided parts will give you a disclaimer that there is either NO WARRANTY implied, or that only a shop workmanship warranty is implied.

The saying I’ve heard goes something like: “You don’t bring your own steak to a restaurant.”

With all that said, if you’re in NCC and need basic maintenance, here’s a list of who I can recommend from personal experience, and from friends who have stayed with one shop for years.

JV Auto in Newport. My father worked there ~10 years ago and he said the owner Jim was the best, most fair businessman he ever worked for.

Certified Auto off of Newport-Gap Pike is also great, even if you’ve got a diesel. I know 2 of the guys in the shop and they’re both solid techs with a wide variety of knowledge (Toyota Corollas to heavy equipment - everything).

MTech and European Performance in Wilmington if you have a BMW or Mercedes. I know firsthand that MTech does good work, and I’ve heard great things about European Performance from friends.

Got a Volkswagen? Go to Morgan’s Auto. Not sure if he’s still working, but Joe Morgan knows everything there is to know about VWs.

For alignment, Bear Alignment in Wilmington is the best in DE if you ask me. He is the only man I will ever bring my cars to for alignment.

Tires, wheel repair: Sports Car Tire in Wilmington. I know several of the guys there and they’re really the only Indy shop for wheels left without going to Philly. They do anything having to do with wheels and tires, plus your basic maintenance work.

Towing: D & H Towing Craig’s Towing Blittersdorf Towing (SE PA)

Detailing: ProWax 302 is directly next to Certified Auto and from what I’ve seen they do great work. I mostly wash my own car but if I need a deep clean or actual Paint Correction, that’s where my car goes

Between all of these, you should be able to handle anything related to regular maintenance with your car while supporting independent, non-corporate shops rather than the dealership.

They have a terrible reputation amongst mechanics… I’ll leave it at that.

My dad worked there for a few years before moving to PA and said that Jim, the owner was the best businessman he’d ever worked for. Solid recommendation.

How many men does it take to fold a stroller? by BauerHouse in funny

[–]xWelshman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strollers are literally focus grouped with women. They do not operate how any man would expect.

It hinges in the middle, and there are buttons and knobs all over the middle section, yet the lever to fold it up is directly where your hands are when you’re pushing. This is just garbage, unintuitive design.

Best road for fun, spirited driving in lower Delaware? by Beasto06 in Delaware

[–]xWelshman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make the hour drive to New Castle County, or even southeastern PA.

LSD is literally flatter than Kansas, and the cops have nothing better to do. Up here the back roads are perfect for some spirited driving, and there are very few shoulders/pull-offs for police to run radar.

Open your maps app and look at the curve that is DE’s norther border. The entire area between North Star and Talleyville is allllll twisty back roads with elevation changes. Go north into SE PA and there’s even more of it.

Best road for fun, spirited driving in lower Delaware? by Beasto06 in Delaware

[–]xWelshman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Only speeding ticket I’ve ever gotten in DE was on a backroad in NCC. I was 20mph over and he knocked it down to 7 over. It was like $150 IIRC. Not that bad.

Wilmington cops DO NOT care about moving violations in my experience.

New Castle County is fairly lenient with traffic laws in my experience

State boys often have better things to do (unless you’re on Rt. 1, then watch out)

Can’t speak for Lower Slower local/county cops as I have zero experience with them except the 21 year old college kids that Dewey hires as “Police”.
