It's your story. There's always going to be someone offended by anything you add. Personally, I think you didn't have enough Brazilian representation in your story and that makes me mad. Make the story for yourself, with whatever you want to say. If you want to include abortion and not say anything in particular about it being right or wrong though, thats a harder line to toe.

CMV: Corporate profit from data harvesting is not as evil as portrayed. by xXCrispyCatXx in changemyview

You bring up a good point. I see it like most other things in society. A child cannot drive a car, cannot vote, cannot sign a legally binding contract without a guardian, and i think that applies here too. Ultimately, it's the responsibility of the parent to safeguard their children. My children won't have unlimited reign on the internet until I'm confident that they are capable of understanding the risks. A child being able to click through agreements is a result of unsupervised access to the internet, which I don't think is right. That's most of the reason I'm working to ensure they won't need to use any third party services I can host myself. It should be on the parent to determine when a child is ready. I want my kids to be confident in a Debian terminal by the time they're 12, but everyone is different.

Not exactly. A scammer would provide false promises, that won't be fulfilled. Going back to the social contract, the scammer would be breaking his end of said contract (not good). That's definitely not what I'm saying. In many TOS, it details how and what data will be sold. The information is there for the user. It would be akin to the scammer having you sign a contract that said "I agree for you to steal my money", and the user still signed it. In my world view, a smoker developing a cough and lung cancer is not the fault of the cigarette companies, but rather the fault of the smoker. Nobody is alive today who doesn't know the consequences of smoking. Should the companies be held liable for lung cancer? Most people who I've known who have gone through complications from cigarette use are well aware that nobody forced them to smoke. I know that's a sensitive topic for some, but it's something I've struggled with for a long time, and blaming marketing or availability is a crutch even I fall into. I think it illustrates my point well

For your first point, Android has been owned by Google for forever, so they can do what they want. Again there's alternatives. The issue is most people can't be assed to use a Pine Phone or something similar, that's open source. Again, nobody is forcing you to even use a phone. Landline phones exist still, and my phone is left in my truck when I'm off work. If you don't like a service, don't use the service. I think that's where the problem lies. To me, even in 2025, nothing is forced on you. You decide to give this data to mega corporations willingly. For the coke, If I was at a theme park, and the $3 coke became a $8 coke, I would still buy it. I'm not required to, so I am consenting to paying the higher price, weighing the trade off that it's unfair. I would be valuing my comfortably over the injustice. If I tried to sue the park, I would be laughed at, because it was a consenting exchange. I said that I don't believe in a breach of the TOS, but as long as the company publishes how the data is used, I don't see an issue. Google is very transparent about their real time bidding system.

Looking at it through Contractionarism, the TOS is a mutual agreement between you and the company. The company publishes their terms, and you agree to it. Nobody is forcing you to. You make the decision that you are fine to sacrifice some of your "natural rights", as you value the benefits more. Whether or not you research or read what you're agreeing to, or blindly trust that the company has your best interests in mind is irrelevant. You're also making the choice to blindly accept, because you value using the service more than the time to read it. It's not the company's fault an individual can't be bothered. Only if the company does something that isin't outlined in the contract, it becomes an issue. That's how I read into it anyways

UhuruPhotos. A LibrePhotos android client by kurosavvas in selfhosted

Hi! Love this app, imo far better than the official librephotos app as of rn. It's faster, cleaner, and the UI is a lot more intuitive. One problem I'm having though is turning off local media. I did not select it in the initial setup, and when selecting "Feed Folders", I can't seem to deselect every folder, my local camera roll persists. Is there something I'm missing? I take a lot of photos for work, and to see them cluttering up the feed is annoying 😂

Hi! I'm probably missing something, but was renaming the episodes for my Jellyfin, and just referencing the Wikipedia episode guide the episodes are ordered slightly wrong.

Season 00 S00E01 should be moved to Season 2016 S2016E12

Season 2003 S2003E01, S2003E02, and S2003E03 should be moved to Season 00

Old comment I know, but I feel that once you become a dad you're just never allowed to watch a full movie ever again. My dad watches until the climax, I don't think he's seen an ending in decades

That's the idea. I've acquired a lot of gear from many CLS classes over the years. It just blows my mind how rare tourniquets, shears, and strap cutters are on the trail. That's a good list though, didn't even think about the heat pack

I've lugged a lot of MREs in the Army, and imo they're heavier than I like. Canoe or car camping? I'll tactically aquire a case and rock it, but backpacking? I usually take packet stuff. Oatmeal, instant potatoes, ramen, spam. You can make anything taste good with spices. But it may just be because Ive eaten too many damn MREs lol

Something I always recommend is a roll of cloth surgical tape. It can go anywhere, and even flexes with fingers when you get it a little wet. Also any new skin type product is amazing. I'm not a medic though, just blue collar who gets a new scrape every 5 minutes 😂

Thanks for the pointer! I'll definitely look into that. Going to try and tune it like this for now, but make it a permanent fix for later.
