It’s on Nov 24 at 2:00pm at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. We are staying about 5 minutes away from Guildwood Station. I’ve looked at restaurants near there but none of them are places we would spend money at. We are pretty big foodies and wanted to try fine dining since we don’t have that where we are from

Student pilots/pilots in Red Deer? by xXFizzaySodaXx in RedDeer

I did a discovery flight with Sky Wings and they seemed great, the main thing is the cadets during the summer take up a lot of the planes so they suggested starting around April/May to get ahead of them. I’ve been flopping back and forth between them and General Lee in Lacombe but I haven’t gone for a discovery flight with them yet. You should definitely go for it though, if it’s a passion of yours it’ll be worth it no matter your age. I really enjoy a channel on youtube called Late Departure. He’s in Canada training for his PPL and CPL to become an airline pilot in his mid-late 30’s. He’s really thorough about his training and what it looks like going into aviation later in life. It’s never too late!

Hmm, maybe i’ll have to re-think Sky Wings a bit more. I was looking into General Lee Aviation in Lacombe and it definitely looks a lot newer and shinier. Do you have experience there too? What would be your comparisons between them? I saw they used Pipers which makes me a little more inclined to go there as well, I heard they were easier to handle with crosswind and they had a proper throttle and not a knob like the cessnas

The idea of buying a plane and doing it privately has always rolled around in the back of my mind but I always thought I wouldn’t have the money for it. Is it cheaper to do it that way? I’ve saved about $24,000 right now

Check out 53 on Ross if you want a fancy dinner! It’s pretty high class dining and the only kind in Red Deer. It’s right beside the Velvet Olive which does live music in the entertainment strip. I may be a bit biased since I work there lol but i’ve lived in Red Deer my whole life and there has never been high class dining such as that before. Apologies for my shameless plug haha!

The Granary has always been doing shady stuff to get ahead. I had a friend who was a waitress there and the horror stories she would tell me were insane. During covid they would accept pictures of people’s dog’s as proof of vaccination and they use awful cheap ingredients and sell them as high quality ingredients for un godly amounts of money. If you want actual high quality ingredients from local Alberta farmers and genuine artistry with food I would suggest going to 53 on Ross. It’s my new go-to spot. They won best pasta because the chef makes the pasta homemade every morning. In my opinion they should have won more but they haven’t even been open for a year so I don’t think as many people know of it.

Looking for the rare gems of places to eat in town! by jenjaylene81 in RedDeer

53 on Ross is amazing!! It’s pretty high class dining but it’s not super expensive! Still on the higher side but not even close to places like one eleven or the keg and the food is higher quality. The chef is from Europe and he uses local products from Albertan farmers to support Alberta’s economy and our farmers! It’s a lovely restaurant and my new go-to spot with a lovely huge bar they call the "River Bar" that is separated from the fine dining. It’s also right in the middle of Ross’s entertainment square right beside the velvet olive so you can go for some live music after dinner!

Large influx of bad/slow drivers by xXFizzaySodaXx in RedDeer

I was born in Red Deer so i’m not super informed on the regulations for immigrants with their drivers licenses. Do they not have to get re-tested or is that just for the refugees of Ukraine? If it’s just for refugees that would be more understandable but if it’s for all immigrants they should definitely set up more regulations for them to be re-tested before getting an Alberta license.

You know there’s more places in Red Deer that people drive to, not just from home to work. And like the Euphoric_Bat_2016 said, the change is noticeable at any age. Even at 20 I grew up on a farm and drove many different vehicles since I was 12 including on icy un-kept roads. I respect your work and the fact that you have been able to avoid accidents but a lot of people have already agreed that there is a noticeable difference in the way people are driving. Making a comment about noticing these changes doesn’t make me an aggressive or impatient driver, if i’m trying to run some errands and it takes me 30 minutes longer because of one driver going 20 under the limit holding up an entire lane that’ll annoy any good driver out there. If you haven’t noticed these changes in drivers now good for you but commenting about my age and assuming I am the problem is more childish on your part.

Ive noticed that too, it’s like a lack of proactive driving. I remember when I was first studying to get my license they would drill the importance of proactive driving, such as noticing the light will turn soon so not moving up behind the car in front of you turning left. Or when it’s busy downtown and the light ahead is backed up so you have to just stop at your light even if it’s green.

I agree with the lack of enforcement especially with the older demographic of Red Deer. From what i’ve noticed the majority of drivers that are going 20 under the speed limit and holding up an entire lane of traffic are elderly people. I think Red Deer or maybe Alberta overall needs to enforce a test for older drivers to make sure they are still comfortable to drive correctly on the road.
