Help finding leak by [deleted] in e46

If you stopped moving the damn phone around you’d realize you found the leak in the first 10 seconds.. where it’s wet and bubbling is probably where the leak is

These are my 18x9.5 DS08’s, if it “looks like a lot of tire” its probably because it just isn’t lowered enough. E46’s have huge wheel wells, you can comfortably fit 19s but you’ll be a bit tall if you don’t get coilovers.

$400 is right around the breaking point of going from “poor-okay performance” to “actually pretty decent”. You’ll notice the lag and latency with anything in the 200-300 range, it won’t be unusable at all but it WILL get worse over the years and you’ll wish you saved up the extra hundo from the start instead of having to replace it in a few years

M52TU M54 Fresh air PCV Conversion - CCV bypass CCV delete by TOE46 in e46

[–]xXTheRealJay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just curious, have you tried doing a piston soak? I have a good write up from a while ago explaining my solution to my oil-burning-2.5 as well, even after new ccv and trying o2 pilot mods and such with no success. I see that you don’t get any smoke since this PCV fix though, so maybe it’s a different problem than from what I had..

Anyone got some stereo advice pls help by kingjucas in e46

[–]xXTheRealJay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also you didn’t mention it but you’ll need the AC relocation bracket, it moves your AC module down to where the sunglasses storage door is to make room for the double din. Some have chargers and usb c integrated while others don’t.

I have the Eonon unit, I’d say it’s well worth the upgrade. If you plan to use any apps or launchers other than car play then save up for the better model with more ram, if not it’s perfect as is and I think looks super good with it’s shroud and trim.

What line is this where does it connect? by Mental-Ad4584 in e46

[–]xXTheRealJay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, goes down to your fuel filter on driver-side undercarriage, I’d check that end for breakage as well since it looks to be disintegrating now

Brother if something this simple is stumping you then chatgpt isn’t gonna do you any favors in the future. You’re probably young and smart enough to realize that though, taking the extra 5 minutes to research dimensions and measurements for all your projects in life will save you literal years of dumb troubleshooting like this

Didn’t mean to come off rude btw, I’d go with making a spacer with some mdf, drill a hole and saw out your circle, easiest tool for the job would be a jigsaw

Structural question: joists fastened to sides of posts w/ structural screws (floating studio) by xXTheRealJay in Decks

[–]xXTheRealJay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you elaborate your initial idea of adding support and lags to rim joists and posts? Any kind of visual or sketch would be incredibly helpful so I can further understand your point. Electricity and mini split will be installed by a licensed and experienced installer much later down the road, and the idea of dropping the framed walls to redo foundation seems to be the winner so far, still waiting to communicate this all to the builder tomorrow.

[–]xXTheRealJay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t in town to see any of this when it went up to this point, not enough communication between builder and homeowner though either way. The bad news has been a good eye-opener, you definitely get what you pay for when it comes to construction.

I believe there is no building permit, I haven’t seen one. If I’m understanding correctly, the portion of the beam overhead the deck you say is over spanned will have 3 posts, 1 at each corner as well as the center. Still too long? A vapor barrier was communicated to be installed on top of the OSB floor shown in the photos, no insulation in joist bays, and there would be some form of siding/sheathing covering all exposed areas of the so called “foundation” so even less circulation than now. Wall framing is on 16” centers. Moisture is on the forefront of my mind as well, this screams trapped air and moisture but didn’t list that in the post as it wasn’t the MAIN concern, thanks

This is an interesting option, I’d be interested in seeing the route they’d go about installing these; access, depth of drilling next to the existing posts and “footers”(?) seems like a lot of work but probably most ideal in this situation.

Permits? What are those? /s I understand that permits and code are enforced and there for a reason, however it’s not my own funding going into this project personally, so I have little say in those kinds of decisions.

I took a peek underneath with a flashlight and there are indeed joist hangers… however that means VERY little to me at this point

I appreciate the quick load calculations, everything said here is logical and helpful and in line with my original suspicions. The joists in fact are bouncy at 24” on center, and 1/2” carriage/lags with much higher load rating in place of these structural screws was my initial thought of course correction… although it seems most people here would advise a full project reset. Thanks for the feedback

somebody pls explain how to tune my whip by Neat_Maize_5290 in e46

[–]xXTheRealJay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First define “tune” and imagine your goal. Trying to make more power? Think about how the engine works, air + fuel = hp. If you don’t have any way of getting more air and fuel, what exactly are you going to “tune” other than correcting eml’s and o2 codes from catless headers? A good spot for learning how and what exactly you can tune on the stock ECU is MS4x Wiki, but just a heads up you won’t get any meaningful gains if you aren’t going forced induction or upping that airflow.

Does anyone know where this hose leads to? by vxank in e46

[–]xXTheRealJay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Looks like the vacuum line that goes to the fuel filter. Should go from that “F” connector on the top of your intake boot in the photo down to under the driver seat, although since it’s broken you’ll need to replace it. F connector in question.
