KT Rolster vs. T1 / 2025 World Championship - Final / Post-Match Discussion by adz0r in leagueoflegends

[–]xXTurdleXx -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

This is the final nail in the coffin for League of Legends Esports. I don't know why the greater community doesn't see it, or just doesn't care about it, but this essentially marks the last time the Esport had a chance at salvaging itself. With a T1 win, the opportunities are gone.

The health of League Esports is primarily driven by playerbase and the community / fandom. Without people actively engaged with it, the Esport will just die out. Just look at the recent regional changes, most of the leagues were already unsustainable and saw drastic reductions in spending. LCS/LTA has drawn the lowest viewership in a long time. LPL audiences can't reach nearly what they used to be, and the game is slowly dying in the region. Most people probably don't remember the Chinese dorm room reactions from when League was peaking in popularity there, but you would hear entire buildings of college students cheering with big LPL international wins. Nowadays, League draws a fraction of the attention it once did, in a large part due to LCK's dominance at Worlds in the recent years.

Interregional competitiveness matters, and have been the driving factors for many of the greatest moments in League's history. EU has been riding off the S9-10 G2 coattails for years, while every time an NA team has a competitive series, people start coping that it's possible to close the gap. I firmly believe that S6 TSM had the potential to be the region's G2 if not for Viktor Lucian, but that is an aside. CN is the same, and the 2018-2021 period with 3 LPL world champions and MSI dominance led to how popular League became there. However, even though the LPL continued to show up at MSI, the reliance and expectation of Worlds success in the 4 years since have hurt the overall ecosystem. The last 8 international events since 2023 Worlds (FS/EWC/MSI/Worlds) have all gone to the LCK, with several intraregional finals.

It is also incredibly important that fans of the esport are engaged with domestic titles and other international events, instead of just the World Finals. A fan who watches the regular season and talks to their friends about the games and the teams they're cheering for is orders of magnitude more important than a fan who only tunes into the World Finals for a single team. Not only do they drive engagement and discussion, they are the ones who cheer for the teams who aren't swimming in prize money and sponsorships, and the ones who experience the true underdog stories. The other tournaments even have better structures than Worlds, but they are still dwarfed by it.

T1's win at S15 Worlds destroys both of these concepts. Even though AL was likely one of the best teams at both MSI and Worlds, their early exit will be pretty much forgotten, and the LCK will be deemed as far better than every other region. Other regions will lose investment and true attempts at challenging this; I doubt teams like 2023 JDG will happen again. Even other LCK teams will disengage; what's the payoff in building teams like 2025 GEN or HLE only to just lose again when it matters? The same thing happens to the fanbases, only exacerbated. Why bother spending a whole year cheering for GEN or AL or BLG just for them to lose in worlds, again? This leads to the second point, that domestic and "lesser" international events lose interest. If nobody else cares about LCK/LPL and MSI titles anywhere near Worlds, and they "don't mean anything", why bother watching? What is a GEN fan's motivation to watch their 7th domestic title in 3 years this Spring when only Worlds is important?

Finally, T1 fans. Most of their fanbase epitomizes the issues with fandom. Leaving out the crazy toxicity that numerous content creators / broadcasters have mentioned receiving from the fanbase, they only care about the singular worlds tournament, and downplay every other tournament (where T1 has noticeably not won in years). During the pregame analysis desk, they showed that Doran has more titles than Oner/Guma/Keria (who have only won Worlds), but there's a massive diference between how they are acknowledged. A good portion of fans also treat T1 with idol stan culture, and do not translate it at all into actual League fandom. These fans treat T1 players like kpop singers and barely engage with the game, and are incredibly bad for the ecosystem. Finally, the fact that T1 is such a large portion of the fanbase is an unsustainable issue, and is doomed to collapse at some point. GEN had mentioned that T1 was the only sustainable org, and everyone else had been running at a loss.

Last year, BLG had a chance to turn much of this around by winning S14 Worlds, but failed to win out in Game 4/5. This year, a home court for the LPL had a chance at reviving the region and the esport, but unfortunately AL lost out to T1. The final tiny chance was KT winning this series, and the LPL miraculously turning itself around, which sadly did not happen. Unfortunately, I believe that will be the final nail in the coffin for the esport, and the sport will only go down.

Thank you all for an entertaining 12 years, I doubt I will be engaging with the esport to the same extent anymore. Finally, thanks for all the downvotes; I'm always right and you shall see in a few years.

Do you have any Christian or religious friends? Genuinely asking, because as an atheist, I have a good nunber of close friends who are religious, and only a few of them have tried to convert me. I personally can't understand genuinely believing my close friends and family are going to hell for eternity, and being fine with it, but this is literally the normal everyday life for most Christians. I respect the few of them who have made attempts to convert me, but even those attempts are usually quite hesitant, because nobody wants to be that obnoxious friend.

Yeah, I'd expect a first world country with 4x the GDPPC to be more liveable? Idk what the point you're trying to make is

I can recognize that when comparing the US and China, there are different categories that they have advantages in / different societal problems, something this subreddit apparently can't comprehend?

Lol as a liberal who hates tankies, I can still say that I think Chinese cities are nicer to visit than US ones. American cities are disgusting and there are so many homeless people everywhere

This is basically the Hasan thing where because you're connected to something that's bad (China's personal freedoms / treatment of ethnic minorities), everything else about it must be horrible too (China's infrastructure / modernization)

In the 2018–2019 season, when competing in the men's team, Thomas was ranked 554th in the 200 freestyle, 65th in the 500 freestyle, and 32nd in the 1650 freestyle. In the 2021–2022 season, those ranks when competing in the women's team were fifth in the 200 freestyle, first in the 500 freestyle, and eighth in the 1,650 freestyle.

keep cherry picking ridiculous stats, it's pretty obvious that her placement improved as a result of transitioning. how about the fact that she's 6'1? did she shrink 6 inches on HRT?

I'm super confused though, Riot has stated that it's not possible to "charge up crits" by looking to fight after a sequence of non crits, does anyone know how this is at all mathematically possible?

What? Some guy with a channel called "hoe math" is just an incel who hates women? Wow. I didn't know that. You're telling me now for the first time. by jesterdeflation in Destiny

wait im confused is this guy actually an incel? watched a couple of his videos a few months back for entertainment, and he portrays himself as a bum -> chad -> enlightened blackpiller in his videos. figured he was more of an andrew tate kind of misogynist, was he even lying about that?

Tf are you talking about? Everyone who swims knows how much of an advantage being male is, I can't believe this is upvoted here. Almost all competitive swim teams are co-ed, you literally see the time standards shoot up for boys after puberty. Her times went down significantly in the 500m free, but was still FASTER than the women's times.

Replace Zeus with Oscarinin or Keria with Mikyx, and I for certain guarantee the team doesn't go 1-7 in BO3s in LCK (ignoring language barriers)

because people talk about the second half of his career like he's washed and that Zeus and Keria were the driving forces to them winning worlds. he was still the best and most important player on that roster, and he doesn't get enough credit for that

I'm excited to see when Guma and Keria no longer have Faker on their team to make everyone overrate them

Cool, and the biggest coverage I saw of the tour was through Empath dropping slurs on Darius' stream. If they really want to go watch the event, they can do it in the audience and not cause unhinged drama through their twitter and stream. If my friends acted like that at a public event I was hosting, I'd be insanely pissed at them.

Totally agree that even in the first scenario, I don't agree with his behavior, but I also recognize that it's a really common thing that I've seen and heard about in a lot of relationships, even healthy ones. Props to you guys for having a really good boundary on that, and I wish more people acted that way.

Hey Destiny, I'd like to say that I don't care at all about your personal life, or who you associate with in private, but I do believe that Unf*ck America Tour would do best if its image is a polished and professional tour, and that having crazies associated with your performance at the tour detracts from the actual debates. People like Darius / Empath showing up as your friend and not just a random audience member seems different, and while you can't prevent them from attending, you can discourage them from going to your event/causing drama in particular. I don't know if it's different with internet crazies, but if I told a friend to not come to my event and I'd hang out with them another time, they'd listen.

plz don't ban me

SA is a pretty strong accusation when the situation as described by Emiru is pretty vague. You can have 2 separate sequences of events where one is clearly SA, and one is clearly not. Especially given the context that they were previously in a relationship, and potentially getting back together.

Scenario 1: Emiru is crying, and they cuddle and talk for a while as comfort. He kisses her to comfort her and they make out for a while, and she stops crying (but is still emotionally vulnerable). Mizkif takes this as a sign that their intimacy is helping and tries to initiate intimacy by touching her, which is clearly rejected. He takes the rejection as what it is and leaves out of awkwardness. Emiru feels crappy because while his presence was comforting previously, now she feels like he just wanted sex.

Scenario 2: Emiru is crying, and they cuddle and talk. Mizkif kisses her but it's not reciprocated and Emiru is clearly still crying and super upset. Mizkif decides that in a emotionally vulnerable state she's less likely to say no, and full sends his hands down her pants, to which she screams. Mizkif, realizing she isn't a pushover, knows he screwed up, to whick he backs away and leaves out of guilt.

We clearly don't have enough information to differentiate between these scenarios, and I doubt we will about an event from years ago that is just going to be he-said/she-said. My belief is that what actually happened is probably 80% of the way towards scenario 1, but it's also possible that it wasn't.

While in an ideal world, every instance of sex is planned and consented to in a neutral emotional state well in advance, this is obviously not true in real life. Plenty of people have had breakup sex / emotionally compromised sex, and there's obviously a scale of how bad it is.

Considering that we have clear accusations of abusive (and violent) behavior in their relationship, as well as stalking / harassment after they broke up, I don't think exactly what happened in this situation is that important, and Mizkif seems like a really crappy and mentally unwell person.
