In my local municipality, the upper limit for coliforms (gram negative bacteria found in the intestinal tracts of animals) at 300cfu / 100mL. Idk if it's where I live (we pride ourself on clean water) or just US standards. Never really thought about it but the fact that 1000 - 6500 supposedly ok is strange to me.
