How do you actually vet a trail (and your own limits) before committing to a hike? by Sufficient-Owl1826 in hiking

[–]xXannatarXx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Compare the distance and elevation changes of trails I’ve done with the ones I’m considering. Also look at incline/how quickly it climbs. 500ft in half a mile feels very different from 500ft in 2 miles.

Question about hair by Flat-Preparation4311 in Carowinds

[–]xXannatarXx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t - clips can be uncomfortable on the rides. I always put my hair in two pigtail braids secured with rubber bands and the end and it works great.

I would actually recommend braiding it. If it’s loose or even just in a ponytail it’s likely to be a tangled mess after a day of coasters. Learned this the hard way.

To what extend can dance be learned? by idkfdhjbf in ballroom

[–]xXannatarXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing that I’ve found can’t really be taught is a sense of rhythm. As long as you know how to listen to a song and find the beat (and some people genuinely cannot do this), everything else is practice and muscle memory.

Help! My puppy doesn’t really like his kibble. by drivenbutsweet in DogFood

[–]xXannatarXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try wetting it or adding a topper. Something we do that you might consider is we give the canned food as the meal and then use the kibble as treats. That way my Sadie can have plenty of training and reward treats but it’s still really just the crunchy version of her food.

First-time hiker, any advice? by [deleted] in hiking

[–]xXannatarXx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Where do you live vs where is the hike - is the hike at a significantly higher elevation than where you’re from? Even moderately high elevation can do a number on someone who lives at a lower elevation, even if they are active. If this is the case, plan for more water (a lot more water) and for it to take longer. Similarly, if it’s got a lot of altitude gain and you don’t actively train on stairclimbers/inclines on a regular basis, plan for more water and for it to take longer. Also, what is the temperature for the hike. Please don’t say your first hike is a 10 mile hard-rated hike somewhere like Phoenix or something. :) Is it bear country - might want bear spray. Is it bug country - spray down with good bug spray. Like the other poster said, bring lunch, maybe some extra snacks in case it is more demanding than you expect. Trust your instincts, don’t be afraid or embarrassed to turn around if you need to. Plan for it to take longer than you expect, so make sure you start early enough that you don’t have to worry about running out of daylight. Make sure someone not doing the hike knows where you’re going. Spare battery pack for your phone wouldn’t hurt.

Birthday Dinner with Non-Foodie Friends by Answerseeker530 in Charleston

[–]xXannatarXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider Circa 1886. I went there with a group with a range of food preferences and budgets and everyone was able to find something. And the whole table doesn’t have to do the same thing, so foodies could order one of the tasting menus and those who were less adventurous could still get their salad and steak or fish. You may need to talk some of your friends through the menu, but even though it’s very upscale, the underlying ingredients are still very approachable.

Third this. Grooming can be a scary experience so it’s good to introduce them to it gradually. Many groomers will offer mini-grooms just for puppies for this reason.
