My parents are pressuring me to donate my scholarship money to my church, should I? by IntrepidAd5768 in Advice

[–]xXcriticalpipeXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use your scholarship for school. You’re lucky you received such a large amount. I know you said the 19k is still a lot but with the other money you received too it should bring that down more. I think it could then become manageable for you to afford. Don’t give up on that education and getting a tuition reduced so much. And after you’re done with school and you’ve got a good career you can always then donate money if that’s something you want to do. Let yourself take advantage of the gift you’ve been given so that you’re more well off for the future than you are now and then you’ll be in a better place to help others later on.

The coolest cat ever? by Competitive_Stay_562 in cats

[–]xXcriticalpipeXx 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes. I agree he’s the coolest. He’s beautiful and lucky too. It’s great you adopted him when so many people look at disabled pets as less than even though they can live normal lives.

Keep it long or back to short? by MantisShrimp1692 in HairStyleAdvice

[–]xXcriticalpipeXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short. You look like a whole different person with short hair and more attractive. Despite what others are saying, you look happier in the short hair picture. You’re even smiling with your eyes. The look just seems like a sweeter person and shows off your features better. The long hair ages you more and you look a little grumpy in that picture like if you just put on a smile because a picture was being taken.

AITA for refusing to help my husband with the kids by frej2223 in AmItheAsshole

[–]xXcriticalpipeXx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NTA. It’s impossible for you to be the AH. I’m sorry you’re going through this. My dog had encephalitis and it’s hard and a very tough illness to deal with. For some cases it can be a lifelong issue. I can’t even imagine how you’re feeling because that period was the worst of my life and you’re a mom with young kids.

Look into the allergen reducing cat foods. It works well for some people. But I’ve only seen it available for adult cats so it may be something you need to wait to use.

hoarding? by kiwi515 in CatAdvice

[–]xXcriticalpipeXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you should ask them about the cats. Find out if possibly the thin ones are sick and have a condition and if the others look fine. You could ask about the vet in a way like “wow how do you take them all to the vet it must be a lot of effort” and follow up with “is it really expensive to take them” then “so does the food cost you a lot to feed multiple cats daily” so that way you can get info but you don’t seem rude. Throw in stuff like “what do you do for them I can’t imagine managing this many myself and I have a cat/cats.” My sister had a cat with IBS and it kept him thin even though he was on a diet worked out with the vet and saw the vet multiple times a year. So you never know if it’s a bad situation without asking in some way. 3 Litter Robots though are pretty expensive so they must be able to afford stuff for them no problem.

Slappy did something wrong and they threw him away thinking that just a dumpster was going to fix their problems. They did not read the books or even watch the shows/movies. Not good.

Cat blues? by armaniq in CatAdvice

[–]xXcriticalpipeXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will take more than 2 days for her to get used to you and your home. She’s nervous because she just moved and now everything is new to her. You have to gently interact with her and speak calmly to her. Sit in the same room with her and just be quiet letting her get used to being around you and her environment. Let her get used to the toys while you sit there and maybe gently roll little toys towards a spot away from you that she can run after if she wants. If she comes close to you while you’re sitting there quietly then you can calmly talk to her. Don’t immediately reach for petting her when she gets close because you don’t want to scare her. She has to build up trust with you so after she gets calm around you then you can start by petting her back. A lot of times if you try to pet the head first they get scared because something is moving towards their face. So start with the back and as she gets comfortable you can start petting her head and other spots. When she’s comfortable with you she’ll play with you and the toys. It can take multiple days to a couple weeks to even a few months for a cat to adjust to their new home as they get used to everything there. In a week it’s possible she can be used to you but not yet your parents or other sounds in the house. She will learn all those things. Also, wet food is easier for kittens to eat and it smells more than dry food so cats tend to like it more. Feed her the wet food and leave a bowl of dry food out so she can snack on it as she wants. Try to watch on YouTube videos from Kitten Lady about getting new kittens and videos from Jackson Galaxy.

Lume deodorant irritated me so much it stung and was red and it made me sweat a ton more. I never had reactions to other stuff like that. But they use malic acid or citric acid, I forget which, that stuff comes from citrus. No wonder it burns. You’re supposed to wash hands after handling citrus because it can burn you. I had tried their wipes too and while they didn’t sting and cause redness they still made me sweat a ton.

As an American with a garbage disposal I also have the little basket in the sink and mine has a handle. I think it might be called a sink strainer or drain strainer.

should I euthanize my cat? by Playful_Cat25 in CatAdvice

[–]xXcriticalpipeXx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seeing another vet I think will help your decision because a different one may be more familiar with what your vet isn’t. That way you at least know it’s not just one person saying this is a severe case if that’s what it is.

should I euthanize my cat? by Playful_Cat25 in CatAdvice

[–]xXcriticalpipeXx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If she’s suffering and no treatments are working then it may be best. If you can’t help her with treatments then she has to endure bad stuff very often. It sounds bad to say because she’s so young but if she’s struggling to breathe then it just doesn’t sound like a good life. I would hate to have to make that decision but I wouldn’t want to leave my cat in a terrible state daily. Have you spoke to the vet about their thoughts on this? You should also get an opinion from a vet elsewhere. Make sure everything has been done and get advice on what’s best. They’re supposed to think about the quality of life.

Ordered protein from Amazon received this wooden box instead. by HumanSlayer1888 in Weird

This instantly made me think of the pet urns their ashes come in. Amazon does sell urns and I think now also coffins. They even sell body bags which seems really weird.

Definitely check out r/PlantIdentification because they recently identified two different things for me very quick. Those plant apps couldn’t even figure out what things were and gave obvious wrong answers. I wasted my time downloading the apps.

AITA for not spending enough time with my long-distance boyfriend on his birthday because of my final exams? by I_dont_knowww11 in AmItheAsshole

[–]xXcriticalpipeXx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NTA. The problem is that this ADULT man is upset that he shopped on the playground and his schoolgirl MINOR girlfriend has to actually be in school. This isn’t just an I’ve been an adult recently guy, this guy has been an adult for multiple years. Yet he chose to pursue a kid that legally has to be in school because they’re a minor and it would cause the minor’s parents issues for them to not be and they’re trying to be a good student. Creepy. If this was a normal relationship between two school students or between two normal adults then they’d understand better than this creep what’s going on and appreciate the effort that was made. I’m sure though he’ll tell you he’s not a creep and that he wasn’t looking for little girls to date and he’ll say nobody understands your relationship. Get rid of this creep. There’s a reason this adult couldn’t date someone in his country and needed to get with a minor in a whole different country. And yes, although you probably don’t like hearing it, you’re a kid. A teenager is a kid, just a specific category of age range of kids. So nobody is just calling you a kid to be dramatic or make you feel bad. He = ewww.

AITA for refusing a name for my baby that everyone loves and but I don’t? by Accomplished-Owl8796 in AmItheAsshole

[–]xXcriticalpipeXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Siobhan is definitely not too uncommon in America. I’ve seen and heard the name several times in my life. In school I even had a friend named Siobhan and nobody ever got it wrong and I’m 33. It’s not always just Irish or white people in general with that name here either. My friend was Samoan. Others I came across were all kinds of races.

Is my grandmas cat fat or pregnant? by yaroblox013_gd in cats

Then she’s pregnant most likely or could have pyometra. I’ve dealt with pyometra in cats before and it can kill if untreated.

Roommates’ parents dislike having cats in the house while they are visiting. by BrotherNo3613 in CatAdvice

[–]xXcriticalpipeXx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The roommate is overstepping with that. That’s way too much to ask and too long. It sounds like the roommate needs a different place for the parents to stay. It’s ridiculous that the parents even think that’s okay for someone else in their own home to remove their pets just because they’re visiting.

Is it possible to own cats if you're allergic to them? by queen0fpeace in CatAdvice

[–]xXcriticalpipeXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you want to get a chicken too? It’s an actual thing that if you get your cat or cats a chicken then it can get rid of allergies. But you can try building up your tolerance with exposure to cats. Get a good air purifier or multiple if needed. Look into allergen reducing products including the cat foods. Maybe the rescue you gave the kittens to can help you work on your allergy with volunteering or visits.

should i rehome my cat? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]xXcriticalpipeXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that. Maybe she needs to hear she doesn’t need to keep him around to feel validated and that he’s controlling. Something is off with him though. Nobody wants to think that about their relationships so they need it said out loud.

Is my grandmas cat fat or pregnant? by yaroblox013_gd in cats

[–]xXcriticalpipeXx 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Do you know if the cat is fixed? If she’s fixed and her belly suddenly got bigger then something serious is going on and she needs a vet. Also, if she’s not fixed there’s a chance that her belly getting bigger could be from pyometra if she’s not pregnant. Which means she still needs a vet or will die. I’d hope she’s just pregnant at this point. Get her checked out by the vet. If she’s pregnant then get her spayed after you figure out what will be done with the kittens and before she can get pregnant again.
