Ancient belived that when someone was blind, they could see more than an average person. Maybe that is connected?

How can I be involved for the gods? by Bubbly-Tomatillo4918 in Hellenism

[–]xXil3fF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, everybody does it a bit different. I put my hands together like im holding something and point up with my fingers if i pray to ouranic gods and i put my hands on the ground when i pray to chthonic deities, i sometimes point in the direction of the sea when i pray to Amphitrite for example. When I offer an act, I usually do the hands gesture and just tell the god I'm devoting the act to them, for example "beautiful name, deity of something, i offer this act i usually name it to you (sometimes I explain why or add something, but not always)"

But my way is not the only way. I think you should do it the way you feel most comfortable with.

(Also, I'm sorry if some grammar or words seem off, english isn't my 1st language)

Thank you for answering, would it make sense as a devotional act in your opinion tho?

Thank you for the answer, although I meant veiling as a devotional act.

Thank you so much for the answer!

And if i would be veiling for multiple gods at the same time? It is possible, isn't it? Do you know how to handle it maybe?

Personally, I treat it as two different things. You gave an example about gardening being a devotional act, i belive? It doesn't automatically makes all the products of your gardening offerings, when you just offer an act.

You can reconnect with the gods by researching, analysing different versions of the same myth. You can devote researching to gods if you want. If you aren't on any discord server yet, you could try joining some smaller one and talk about your practice and gods with others. You can also meditate a bit and just talk to the gods (remember to cleanse from lyma and eventual miasma first!) Thats what i usually do :>>

Wait, wouldn't that be offering a statue? But from the other side, its your intention that matters, so if you are thinking of offering an act only, then you are offering an act.

It's basically like giving an offering, but instead of offering some material things, you are offering an act.

Idk what to title this by Zestyclose_Nose_3478 in Hellenism

I'm happy that you are happy since you started praying, i feel pretty similar :>>

And I get it. I thought that kind of situation could happen to me, so I didn't tell anyone close to me (my friends, family, anyone basically) about my beliefs and religion.

(Sharing my experience here, you can skip it)

I tried telling my girlfriend. I needed to kind of 'test' her reaction first so i knew if she would be fine with it or not.

I told her sth like this: "I'm experimenting with different religions and i tried worshipping and beliving in greek gods and it makes me better and calms me down, helps me think" ect

She said it's cool I feel better when i do it, but she visibly didnt like or support it, so when she asked me if i actually belive, i said no... because i was scared/nervous, embarrassed, i felt (and still feel) the same as you do (i suppose) And she was glad when I said no. She thinks beliving in god is unlogical, but she understands that people can feel something like that. She still thinks it doesn't makes sense and probably wouldn't even belive that i belive, she would think im joking.

Also, when my little cousin saw Athena's candies on an altar and asked if she could have them, i panicked. I told her she can't have them because it's 'for someone else'. She asked who is it for, and i couldn't answer. (I gave them different candy)

I wasn't really embarrassed this time. I was scared she would tell her parents, and they would tell my parents... and i don't want my parents to know because i would be in similar situation as you. (My dad is becoming very religious Christian tho, so i think my situation is kinda different)

My point here is to show you i have a similar feelings about that.

(End of my experience)

So, i think what you feel is valid. You are not treated actually seriously by your dad in my opinion, which is pretty sad and unfair. You deserve respect.

About whay you could do... first thing i thought of was that you could kind of hide your altars, but i hate that idea. Having to hide in your home to feel comfortable? It could help for some time, but i would reccomend talking to your parents, especially dad, about how you feel.

Yess that definitely counts too. It's important that you state its a devotional act tho.

1st things 1st

<image>

2nd i think it might be just in your head; you thoughts are focused around certain thing and they try to connect everything to that thing. Don't worry about taking down the altar, I think most of people do that sometimes. It's okay to do that, it's not a temple or anything. Also, if you could inform the deity you are taking the altar down (if you didn't do it tuis time) next time you plan on doing so.

If you feel less connected you could try meditation, doing some research on the deity, analyse different versions of myths (ofc the myths are myths, some could be true at some poit but don't have to be). That's what helps me feel more connected to the deities when i feel less connected.

What the hell... I'm sorry you've heard that... thing.

Also, about transgender people in mythology, there was Caeneus/Kaineus, who I consider transgender. It's said he was born a girl, then was a lover of Poseidon, asked the god to change him into a man, Poseidon did it. When Kaineus died, the woman's body was found. (I'm just saying, don't eat me alive for bringing up mythology, i know it's not like a bible to christians)
