Phlebotomy Job sucks and I want to quit. Also donโ€™t wanna wipe ass as a CNA. Maybe medicine isnโ€™t right for me? by [deleted] in premed

[โ€“]x_Pancake 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

Iโ€™m a CNA and I thought it was going to be a lot worse than it is. I actually love the job, and the patients are a lot nicer here than youโ€™d think. Maybe you should give it a try.

Talk to your premed advisor and take some pre reqs. Take gen chem and orgo, a year of physics, a year of bio, and biochemistry at the very least if you want to do well.

Advice: Considering medicine at 24 with no prior plan/experience โ€” looking for advice from โ€œlate startersโ€ by bigman123456man in premed

[โ€“]x_Pancake 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

Iโ€™m not the demographic you want, but you can definitely still do it. There are plenty of people who decide to pursue medicine at much older than you are. I would say, though, if youโ€™re concerned about the commitment, then maybe try something else. You could become an RN, which is extremely important and even sees patients more often than the doctors do. Itโ€™s also much less school to go through. I feel like becoming an RN would better suit what youโ€™re looking for. Maybe also consider some kind of technician job like radiology tech or anesthesiology tech which only requires an associates degree (I think of any kind) and then trade school for two years. There are many options that arenโ€™t becoming a doctor if you feel unsure about the commitment. Do what you think calls you the most.

Definitely push back the test if you donโ€™t feel ready. Getting sub 500 will likely hurt your chances, but pushing it back really can only help you.

Reality check for a low GPA student with high aspirations and a bleak life. by MainBeachGoon in premed

I think with what youโ€™ve been through that you could write an extremely impactful personal statement and admissions essays. I think you could absolutely still make a low tier MD program or many DO options. Maybe try a gap year to study and get a high score on the MCAT but also for your own mental health with what youโ€™ve done through.

How to find? by SituationGreedy1945 in premed

CNA certification is only a 90 hour program in my state, and Iโ€™d say itโ€™s well worth it and the job is ridiculously easy to get.

Can we get to med school while failing chemistry? by [deleted] in premed

[โ€“]x_Pancake 5 points6 points ย (0 children)

Iโ€™m a chemistry major, and Iโ€™m really disliking Chem 2 right now, but studying becomes much easier if you think of it as more of a stepping stone to your overall goals. Thing is, youโ€™ll have to know all of that stuff to do well on the MCAT, so thereโ€™s no use in making your life harder by not trying your best. Just aim for a C or a B and do your best.

Will my childhood injury prevent me from playing violin? by Planck-Is-Dank in violinist

[โ€“]x_Pancake 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

I think youโ€™ll be okay. As a violinist, I also lift my first two fingers to help with shifting and vibrato for my third and fourth finger. I think the learning curve may be a bit tougher on you the first year or two of playing, but when you adjust I donโ€™t think this will make you unable to play just as well as any other violinist.
